CDs vs. mp3s
Yeah. So for Journalism I'm writing a paper on the music industry (sort of) and the stupid local bands won't respond to my emails/messages/etc.
Sooo if anyone wants to give their opinion, here are the questions:
- Which is better, CDs or mp3s/why?
- With things like iTunes and Napster, will record stores be forced to close in the future?
- If so, should artists even bother with making actual CDs?
- A woman was fined $220,000 for downloading 24 songs off Limewire - Do you think that the penalty for illegally downloading songs should be so harsh?
Meep.

I'm old school so it has to be CD's, I like my large loud stereo at home and in the car. I don't even own an mp3 player.
:D
But I must say that is a ridiculously large fine *kills limewire*
I understand it's illegal, but hell in my country even paying for it is illegal due to stupid copyright laws

I say both. Mp3s Can be easly lost on your comp if it crashes so its nice to have cds. Some are already closing, but I hope in the future they dont all, because i personly like buying cds.
My answer for the last two questions are gunna be answered with one answer.
I think they should still make cd, yes but it is risky. Even though they can make cds to where you can't copy them there ARE hackers who can copy them. Limewire is only possible because of other people and there cds. If they only released the music to cmoanies like itunes, napster, and others, they might make more of the money that they deserve, because people would HAVE to buy them.

Record stores are already closing down due to lose of sales. I think there was an article on the theme in Blender or Spin a while back...
Anyways, bands like Bare Naked Ladies have already adopted new ways of getting their music out: USBs.
Personally, I think mp3s are better because then I can just put the songs on my iPod without ripping anything. If I want a CD I can just burn it.

Downloading is good so people can get one specific song or something that's not released as a single. For instance I like a few songs by Muse, but from different albums hence it's good for that purpose. But in general i prefer to own the CD. I think downloading will never destroy music shops since some people don't like downloads.

I prefer vinyls, i like cd's, i like mp3's. Just depends.
About the downloading, why would it matter? The artists music is still being listened to. But oh wait a sec, they aren't making enough money.

I prefer cds :)
I love the feelin tht i get when i buy a brand new cd and openin the little booklets.
Haha, their booklets are th best ^^.
Im not sure..i hope artist would still be makin cd in the future*crosses fingers*.
Umm, i dont think that record stores would close later on in time.

It's funny...
Our parents would of been arguing about Vinyl vs. cassette.
Then Cassette Vs. CD.
Weird.

I love to buy CDs... I have this thing about "authenticity". I just like to OWN CDs. XD
So, as long as there are people like me, artists need to keep making CDs and record stores should stay open =] As for the penalty thing... I think it's ridiculous. I mean, really... so much money for such a small "crime".

The penalty for downloading songs should definitely not be that expensive. The majority of people download so it that price is definitely harsh.
Artists should bother making cds, there's still people out there (like me) who buy CD's. When we're older, cd's are probably going to be like...records. They're there, but they're rare.
CD's are better than mp3's...just because CD's come with a booklet with lyrics and they're so fun to obsess over for a while. (:
Bleh. I hope I've been helpful :/
