Pillow Fight Day, 22nd of March.

To all my lovely friends here, I shall tell you about my lovely day.

Today is National Pillow Fight Day, 22nd of March. This day is celebrated all over the world, well, in a lot of different parts of the world, including Melbourne (Australia).

I was contacted by the Melbourne Flash Mob about this day, and told that there would be a pillow fight at Federation Square, 6:45pm, and to bring a pillow. That is what I did.

I ended up coming really early just in case to not miss anything. As I waited, I saw quite a few people turning up with pillows. I realised that this wasn’t going to be a small event.

As more and more people turned up, the security guards at Federation Square were getting a little confused as to why all these people had pillows with them, and eventually news leaked out to them. They told everyone to more to the side of the street, which coincidentally, was blocked off, and there was no traffic, this turned out better for us.

At this time 300 people were altogether with pillows. The people of Melbourne just looked stunned as we piled onto the street waiting. We were in the heart of Melbourne, where everyone was watching us.

As I waited on the street, I made friends with a Ninja and a beautiful pirate. We talked for a while. The ninja guy was dressed up as a wonderful ninja, pulling off all the moves, and the pirate was just a wonderful lad.

Everyone was told to be there at 6:45, but the fight wouldn’t start until 7, so we waited, with much suspense. Time drew by, and as it did, you could here people counting down “10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!!!! PILLOW FIGHT”.

The crowd looked on, some confused, most laughing, but us, throwing pillows. We hit each other, bashed each other, and had heaps of fun! It was like one huge moshpit, but with pillows.

Feathers were flying everywhere, and fluff was also everywhere. In everyone’s hair, and shoes. I don’t think you know how much of it there was, just so much, all over the streets.

A lot of the guys hit really hard, I got elbowed in the head twice, and in the time span of 10 seconds, it really hurt, but all was good. After 15 minutes of crazy pillow fighting, we heard ’10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!”

And everyone had cheered. We all threw our pillows up into the air, and caught them on their way down. We had successfully had a pillow fight to go into history!

Everyone stayed back and did their own things for a while, most helped to clean up the mess, they didn’t want to harm the environment. Which I thought was wonderful.

I departed with my Pirate and Ninja friend, hoping to cross their path’s in the future.

As I sat down near some tram lines to gain some energy back, my good friend said “Hey Isabel, look! There’s a guy wearing red converse, and a blue suit!” I knew what this meant.

I looked over, and what did I see? I saw the Dr. He was walking across the road. I immediately got up and ran to him, not wanting to miss out on this opportunity at all.

I walked over to him, a little nervous at first, but that went away when I realised that he was a really welcoming fellow.

“You’re the Dr”, I started off with.

“That’s right” I believe he said.

“Wow, Ive always wanted to meet you, im such a fan! Can I shake your hand?” I asked him in a ‘not too creepy’ kind of way.

He ended up gladly shaking my hand, making me the happiest girl in Melbourne that day. Although he was only a guy dressing up as the Dr, he was still the real deal to me. He ended up telling me that I was the only one who had come up to him and said hello, and that I was the only one that had realised that he was the Dr. It made me feel really special. It came time to depart, so we did.

And that was the final end of my day. I had accomplished a lot. I am very tired, and my legs hurt so badly, but it made my day.

I really do suggest that others take part in Pillow Fight day on the 22nd of March, these are held every year, so keep an eye out for it, or, alternatively, ask me about it.

several cities across the globe including PARIS, NEW YORK and LONDON.

This year PILLOW FIGHT DAY comes to MELBOURNE.

The date: 22nd March.
The time: 6:45pm - till we get burnt-out! Be ready for the siren at 7.
The place: Fed Square.

The Rules of Pillow Fight:
1. Do not hit anyone without a pillow. (This includes, but is not
limited to, people with cameras, bystanders, police and other civic
authorities, property eg. cars). Please use common sense.
2. Do not swing your pillow too hard. We play to have fun, not to hurt.
3. If you have glasses, or anything else that's likely to break, you
probably should remove it.
4. Soft pillows please! And feathers are strongly encouraged.
5. Wait for the SIREN before you run screaming "piiiilllllooooow
fiiiight!"
It should sound when everyone has gathered at 7pm.
6. You must always talk about PILLOW FIGHT. Tell your friends, whom
you know directly, to join in on the madness! And please brief them on
the rules.

--UPDATE: CLEAN-UP INFO --
The best pillow fight is one that doesn't leave any trace that it ever
happened. That is why after we've all had outrageous fun smacking each
other with pillows, we need to think seriously about cleaning up
afterwards.
IF you would like to help out, bring a garbage bag or two, and a pair
of gloves or whatever you need, along with your pillow and take a
little time to pick up some feathers afterward and then chuck it in
the bin. The environment will thank you for it, and so will the few
folk who have vowed to stay behind until the entire square is
feather-free.
