Oh God... I've done it now.

AFI - February 9, 2007 - Columbus, OH

Okay. Screw the set list- I need to talk about them now. The concert was absolutely amazing. The last time I saw AFI was at Warped Tour in which they only played for 25 minutes. A REAL concert is so much more amazing.

But I'll get to that in a bit. First things first- I seriously was worried that Shauna and I would wind up being late. I mean, Google Maps did say that the trip would take about 4 hours, and we, I figured, would basically be leaving at about 2 (since Shauna and I generally take forever to leave anywhere. [We were planning on leaving at 1:30]). So that means that we'd get there at 6, have to check into the hotel, and then walk to the hall. The concert was supposedly starting at seven.

But, as things turned out, my sister drives like a maniac, and we got there at about 5:00. We got to the music hall probably around 5:30ish, and waited until 7 for the doors to open. Not exactly fun… It was freezing cold outside, and we were standing on ice for the most part.

The people behind us were really cool, and we had fun talking to them. Everyone around us was close to our age and had gone through or were going through college. The majors were quite different, but not everyone is going to have the same major, I know.

Most people I seemed to be around where from Pennsylvania, which was kind of odd… since the concert was in Ohio. I didn't meet anyone from Indiana, either. Can't say I blame them, though. Most people probably went to Cincinnati, I imagine.

Anyway, the doors opened at 7, and the bands started at 8.

The opening bands were okay. The Dear and Departed was cute, but kind of emo. But whatever. I'll probably be checking out some more of their music.

The next band was Sick of it All. They were alright. The lead singer was a bit annoying. and I got sick of the sexual innuendos he seemed to be making frequently. Maybe I just took it wrong, but whatever. Every song kind of sounded the same. I found out I did know more songs than I expected, and I tried enjoying myself by singing along, but it wasn't very much fun. Meh. It happens, right?

I wasn't there to see them, as it were.

I got to mostly stand around parents and older fans. A few were around my age. It was… different, but whatever. I was also kind of in the back, but most people should expect that from me. Especially Amanda. Warped Tour 2005- Curse you and your dumbass, scary, mosh pits.

Anyway, time for the REAL concert.

When it got all dark and the bells for Prelude 12/21 started playing- everyone knew that the real show was coming. Fucking brilliant. Davey walked out on stage when it was still dark, and it was just amazing when the song began.

All the songs were just amazing. I promise to get the set list up on this blog sometime soon. Just know that they totally played their cover of Blur's "Song 2" and they also did "File 13" I was ecstatic during those songs. AFI's cover of "Song 2" is just so amazing, and "File 13" is my FAVORITE song from Very Proud of Ya.

Most of the songs were from DECEMBERUNDERGROUND and Sing the Sorrow, but that's cool. I mean, it IS their newer stuff. Of course- they performed God Called in Sick Today, and yes, Davey got crowdwalked to the middle. One thing I'm proud to say is that he was not dropped. They held him the entire time. At the end, he just let himself fall backwards and be crowdsurfed back to the front. And I'm just going to leave it at that for the crowdsurfing stuff.

AFI only played for an hour, but it was so totally worth everything. They are so fantastic. And small venues are so awesome. The fans were wonderful, as well. All so nice.

Well, most were nice. I had one guy steal my tour shirt after the show. I had bought a hoodie inside and a tour shirt (since they didn't have anymore or something) outside. Shauna and I were stopped by some random guy who told us his sob story about why he needed money. Yes, I got scared. He had his hand on my shoulder and was squeezing it. It was making me extremely uncomfortable, so I gave him $20 to just shut him up.

During the process of giving him money, I guess I dropped my shirt. I realized it a few minutes later, and went back. Some random guy was selling a shirt for $5. The other people had been selling the shirts for $10. This guy was at the concert. I saw him. I knew it was my shirt he was trying to sell. Because really- why would some random ass fan buy a $10 shirt to sell it back to someone else for $5?

I went up and asked him if he found the shirt, because I had just dropped mine. He, of course, told me no. It really pissed me off, but there was nothing I could do about it. I didn't have proof he took my shirt, and I wasn't about ready to just punch this guy and take my shirt back or something, either. But if I ever met this dude again in life, he better hope that I'm not carrying a cannon or something.

But I digress. The concert was still amazing. The people were still amazing. I still have a tour shirt- Shauna was nice enough to give me hers. So, anyway, we went around to the back of the venue in hopes to maybe meet AFI.

We didn't get to because it was too cold. Of course, that information came from Smith, so I DID get to meet him. He was so nice. I knew he was getting slightly annoyed with all of us standing there, but he was very nice about it.

There was some girl there too that was kind of strange. She really really wanted to meet the band or at least get a signature or something. Smith told her that he couldn't get anything signed, and she was like, "Is there anything backstage that you could me? A bottle? A sweat rag? Anything?" He totally went back and got her a sweat rag. I don't think he said anything about it, either. He just handed it to her, and she automatically assumed it was Davey's. She smelled it and was like, "It smells like Davey!"

Then she shoved the thing in my face and told me to smell it. I did, but I didn't smell anything other than that cotton scent… so I guess Davey smells like cotton…

In all truthfulness, I don't think it was even used. But whatever. It made her happy. That was the point.

So yeah. That's pretty much all- until I get the stupid set list. My pictures are below. Yes, some are grainy. I was in the back, and I had to use the zoom, which made everything kind of grainy. Others have random people's arms in them. It happens at concerts. It was also pretty dark, and my poor little camera just can't handle all of that. You'll also see that I don't have any of Davey crowdwalking. That occured when my camera decided to be a bitch and get a lens error. But I digress, some pictures are definitely better than others.
