A How To Blog On: Retro hair and make-up made easy!
I'm quite a fan of the retro or pin-up girl look, so I decided to take a younger more modern spin on this look. I made it rather girly girly cotton candy, but you can vamp it up however you like.
Hair:
1. First shampoo and condition your hair, only condtioning mid to ends of your hair as to keep it dryer at the top.
2. Blow dry your hair, sweeping the hair back (so it's almost like a helmet) with your fingers as you dry. Let it dry completely with the dryer. It's quite easy to figure out how to dry it when you see the picture. Leave your fringe out of the helmet like blow drying and dry as you would usually.
3. Straighten pieces of hair the same direction you blowed it, spraying them with strong hold hairspray.
4. Begin pinning your hair back loosely, you should push foward on the hair at the back of your head to give it alot of volume. Pin your hair like this all the way around to just below your ears. Leave a few strands hanging loose beside your ears, curl the with a spiral curler or straightener. Tie any remaining hair into a long slung pony tail or bun. Spray with generous amounts of hairspray or finishing spray.
5. Straighten your fringe to the side, curling it under slightly at the bottom.
6. Finish off my tying a ribbon of choice around your head, usually tied where the parting of your fringe meets your beehive-esque hair style.

Use as guidence.

Make-Up:
1. Wash your face as usual, using a grainy scrub to get rid of all dead skin. (You can also just add brown sugar to moisturiser and use that as a scrub if you have none handy). Towel dry your face.
2. Apply a tinted moisturiser or a very light foundation all over your face. Then target your problem areas with a heavier foundation or concealer. Useing a large blusher brush, swipe a loose powder all over the face. If it appears too heavy, press your face to a tissue or towel for 20 seconds.
3. Use a pink and tan blusher blended together on the apple of your cheeks and up to your temples with a big blusher brush. (You can't really tell in my picture that I have alot of blush on because of the light, but do apply it.

4. Apply a mixture of light gold and cream eyeshadow all the way up your brow with an eye shadow brush. Apply a light or baby pink to the crease of your eyelid. Then add white just under your brown bone as a high lighter. Then apply black liquid eyeliner on top of the lid (this takes practice) the liner should be at its thickest in the middle and get thinner at the ends. Apply a generous amount of black mascara, especially at the ends of your lashes.
5. Use a light pearly pink of your lips, apply it with a brush. Then add a clear gloss over the top. You could also use red lipstick if you'd like.

The light isn't so good, I wish it were better so you could see the full extent of the make-up.
Fun Tips:
1. I listened to some retro style music while doing all this, just to get in the mood. If you'd like to do the same, I'd suggest:
1. The Andrews Sisters
2. Johnny Cash
3. Amy Winehouse
2. Play around with the colours to suit you, your skin tone or just the way you feel!
3. Read my other blogs on hair and make-up for further advice.

I know this isn't proper, serious retro.. but it was my take on it. I'm no vintage expert, but if you are don't take it all too seriously.

Enjoy! Tell me if you try it out.
