Prom
May 16th 2008
At my school there’s a year 11 tradition; leave school, go to prom, and now, this is my blog on a magical night-whatever you say, proms win at life. And this blog…well it’s my picture story…
Due to start at 7.30, I arrived ready at Sophie’s house with Cass for 6 o’clock, before Bryony, Esther & Felicity [Flossy] arrived and we let the photo taking begin for half an hour waiting eagerly for our ride to arrive.
Rather peculiar…going to prom in what appears to be a truck? There’s more than meets the eye with this little thing. Soon enough, these creatures were taken out; black, glossy and beautiful.
Unloaded with this strange blue thing, which sadly wasn’t a TARDIS.
But soon…it took shape.
And we took off into the crisp spring night.
The 6 of us, smushed into a carriage, began the half an hour journey, smiling, taking photos and waving at all the little children that ran out to us [safe, I know!]. Also involved was laughing at the 28 cars we held up at one point. Giggling hysterically, we talked, smiled and found the whole concept of the night amusing, grinning as limos drove past us, windows open with faces of pure ‘why didn’t we think of that?’.
But it was as we came down the final approach that it became hysterical. As soon as we came, the front hall of the village [prom location, big hotel] became swabbed with people, all eager to see us arrive. The rumours had spread and there was a big standing ovation basically. Our teachers gathered round, astounded at the pure unique thing; 40 limits previously and then us.
People are literally coming up to us and saying we’re amazing and how we shouldn’t settle for anything less, but moving on…inside the place was amazing. Our form tutors handed us roses as we wandered our way through, talking and dancing with less frequent pictures, because it was that much fun that we didn’t need cameras to commemorate it.
The music wasn’t too amazing til after the awards, and suddenly, bring on the cheesy pop; Macarena, YMCA, Saturday Night, Girlfriend, 5678, Reach and all the boy band classics that you’ve never actually been able to forget, no matter how hard you try, before modern rock for a few songs moments before returning back to the modern day chart dance anthems.
The teachers relaxed [some even dancing, rather badly might I add] and with my friends starting a ‘Michael Jackson’ dance circle for Andy to do the Thriller dance to, it was just so much random fun. So what that I didn’t like the music and so what that I didn’t like many of the people there, it was just so much fun.
If you get a chance, go to your prom…you’ll regret it if you don’t.
Oh and if you’re wondering, me in a dress?
