Steampunk: If the future had happened sooner. (Pt1)

Why is there no ategory for this sort of thing? Just one called something like: "Information" would be handy.
Hello, i'm here to tell you about a fantastic little thing called Steampunk.

Excerpts taken from Urbandictionary.com:
“A lifestyle choice, wherein the participants embrace deliberate anachronism and quasi-anachronism as seen in Steampunk fiction. Often characterized by modifying one's electronic gadgets to make them look a century out-of-date.
Not to be confused with Renaissance re-enactors, who claim to eschew technology entirely; steampunks love fiddly gears and shiny metal things.”

“Steampunk is a subgenre of speculative fiction, usually set in an anachronistic Victorian or quasi-Victorian alternate history setting. It could be described by the slogan "What the past would look like if the future had happened sooner."”

Wikipedia.org:
“Steampunk is often associated with cyberpunk and shares a similar fanbase and theme of rebellion, but developed as a separate movement (though both have considerable influence on each other). Apart from time period and level of technological development, the main difference between cyberpunk and steampunk is that steampunk settings usually tend to be less obviously dystopian than cyberpunk, or lack dystopian elements entirely.”
(“A dystopian society is a state in which the conditions of life are extremely bad, characterized by human misery, poverty, oppression, violence, disease, and/or pollution.”)

Okay. So Steampunk is a subculture, basically. It is mostly set in the Victorian era (late 1800’s- early 1900’s) when Queen Victoria ruled. Connected with it are certain types of fashion, aesthetics & mannerisms.
Scince this blog will be getting incredibly long if I go on to those topics: Wait for part two!
