The Befores.

This is part of a two part blog I want to write about a student staying in my house from Japan. My school is extremely lucky because our sister school is Japanese and in October I may get the chance to fly out there on a visit and represent the country alongside other students at a huge science fair that will let me explore most cultures from round the world.

My first Japanese experience was 2 years ago, maybe? I was lucky enough to meet the Japanese ambassador, but a possibility of actually going there is a hell of a lot more exciting. It’s the main reason I agreed to do the exchange, to height my chances of being accepted.

Currently, there’s just over a week to go and I can’t wait. Sure, you may wonder why I’m writing this now; well, he flies in on Sunday and after that I’ll be in super hectic mode, since he’s staying with me from the 18th to the 22nd and I can’t wait…although I’m a little nervous.

Normally, we wouldn’t be able to have another guest in the house since we converted the fourth bedroom into a study, but my sister is at a musical competition in Holland meaning I can take her room and the student can have mine, hence will get the whole attic to himself, which includes a private bathroom.

Bet you’re wondering about my student? His name is Masashi Otani and he’s 17 from Kyoto, Japan. I was mainly assigned to him for the whole fact that he liked dogs and as you may know, I have two large boxers but I really just want to hug him right now. In his ‘self introduction’ he finishes with ‘I like smiling’. How effing adorable is that? Very. I know his blood type, family, interests and so much more and it’s just gonna be an awesome 5 days.

Of course, I’ll meet him before he moves in with me, at workshops at school and a rounders game [zomg, one of the best sports ever] all organised by school, but already now I’m really excited at the prospect of it all. We’re going to be taking him places on the two days that he has ‘free’ with us; upon the first day we’re taking him to the Dales and showing him Yorkshire, since that is not upon the itenary, while on day two it’s going to be a beach day and we’ll take him along the sand and it’ll be utterly fun.

But then again, there will be a basic stranger with me for 5 days…

So, am I regretting signing up? No.

I really can’t wait.
