Tokio Hotel.
You gotta either love or hate them. You either respect them or laugh at them. There's nothing in between. Tokio Hotel have been in the center of attention since 2005. I remember when I first heard of them I only smiled weakly - another one of those silly one hit wonder teenie bands, I thought.
And to be honest, I hated them. They were on almost every channel on German TV, they were in every news report, in every magazin, shop, anywhere. I loved MTV those days because they refused to play Tokio Hotel, so at least one channel was Tokio Hotel clean. Unfortunately, it isn't anymore.
The world is insane, I thought, observing what has happened in Germany. Teenagers were crying and going crazy over Tokio Hotel, even worse than they did over the Backstreet Boys when I was their age. Documentaries were shown about parents going with their kids to the concerts, having special "parents rooms" at the concert where they could wait for their kids. Girls crying their heart out because the guitarist was seen with an unknown girl. I mean seriously - what the heck?
Gossip newspapers were full of stories about the band members, many of them about the guitarist claiming at the age of idk 16 that he has had sex with hundrets of girls. Sorry but please stay down-to-earth.
I always laughed about Tokio Hotel. It's simply not my age, not my type. I never liked people comparing them to Green Day and other serious bands, I thought it was rediculous, and I honestly still think so. They started to sing in English for the fame. Tokio Hotel are a part of a big project of managers and producers wanting to do the next big thing. Well they did it.
Nevertheless, I have a lot of respect for what they have achieved. They have fans all over the world, they work hard and they touch the kids' hearts. And that is most important. It is very difficult for a band from somewhere outside the USA or Great Britan to get that successful all over the world. Also, a very big plus is that they play their own instruments and motivate kids to play instruments, too.
As you could see, Tokio Hotel is not my type of music, it's too kiddy-like, I don't like the band members either. They seem pretty stuck up, the singer has an ugly hair style and the guitarist seems arrogant. I guess I'm simply too old for their music and attitude. I never liked them really. And yet I have to admit, I would have never guessed that they would get that big. I would have never guessed that they'd have that much of success. But they did it, they conquered the world. No matter if you like them or not, you gotta admit that what they have achieved is big and that they deserve respect for their big success.
Thanks for reading.

I wonder how they learned their songs in English? Did they speak pretty okay English beforehand? Maybe they learned like ABBA did, phonetically (by learning the sounds....)
But I don't like the band, myself. I find the song Monsoon tres annoying. Its just my opinion, though. It took me forever to decide whether the lead singer was a man or woman. But hey.. its okay.
Good blog though, Love :D

It's sad that no one reads what my actual point of this Blog was. I wanted to show that even if something is not your type of music, and even though some things seem stupid to you, you can still have respect for something people achieve. But some of you guys only read what you want to read and as soon as you hear something negative about your favorite band something in your head switches off and you start b*tching. Please accept other people's opinion without looking down on them.
Thanks to those of you who commented this blog without trying to start a fight.
I want to say a couple of things:
I never said they are stuck up, I only said they seem like it. Also, as read my mind said, I was talking in the past when I said I hate them, and I never NEVER! said anything like they don't make good music or their music sucks. Never! So before you throw your insults at me, at least read properly. I think it's pretty mean that some of you don't allow me (or others) to have their own opinion. I think it's pretty sad that some people cannot accept different opinions. I never said anything bad about anyone of you.
"Maybe you are just bashing them because you gained the same hatred that many Jonas Brothers fans gave them." I do not hate them, I know nothing about the Jonas Brothers or any of their fans or whatever they do.
Also people need to realize that there is a huge management company and record label behind them that controls almost everything they do and that did control everything they did from the day they signed the contract. But that's what the music industry is like. It's normal. It's not their fault and I never said it was.
And Siaxx, I totally agree with you that music has no age limit, but that doesn't mean that I have to be into everything new that is out. I'm not the type of girl anymore who's standing in the first row at concerts crying their eyes out and screaming for their "big love" on stage. And I'm sure neither is your grandma. That's what I meant. And you cannot blame me that their songs simply don't speak what my heart feels and that I cannot relate to it.
Point of this blog: I might not like them that much, but I respect them.

Bert McCracken,
Tokio Hotel has talent. They can actually sing live, and no, they do not lip-sing. How often do you find a band or singer that doesn't lip-sing? I call that talent, when they can sing without electronics.
____
most bands in the alternative industry don't lip sync, its dishonest. Not lip synching isnt that special, i respect they made a living for themselves but they're not individual in any way, shape or form. They're doing what lots of other bands have done.
Talent is making music that doesnt get old, and Tokio Hotel has already gotten old.

I respect your opinion.
I've never really listened to them nor do I know a lot about them, but hell, I used to think they were girls. (Literally.) They seem a little over rated to me I guess. I don't hate them either. To me, they seem like one of those bands that many people will love and then they just disappear.

But liike .. I don't love them OR hate them.
So what now?

theshadowchild, she cleary stated that she does not hate them, she respects them. and when she did in fact say hate, she said it in the past tense, therefore she hated them. that isn't the same as hating in the present. she is entitled to her own opinion as you are yours, but keep it nice. don't be rude about it.

To Author,
1) They sing in English too because many people around the world liked their music and wanted it in a language that many people understood. They didn't do it for fame.
2) You only hate them for your own opinions. How do you know they are stuck-up? How do you know the guitarist is "arrogant"? Maybe you are just bashing them because you gained the same hatred that many Jonas Brothers fans gave them.
3) It seems you hate them because you think since you are old, you can't like a younger band. Same problems as many other adults. Even if you are only 20 years old, you still lived in the 80's (a.k.a. time of the punk-rockers). All Tokio Hotel are doing is bringing it back.
Many bands are bringing decades back to relive. These times in the 2000's is just bringing time back to the future.
You need to learn, age doesn't control what you like or not (my grandmother likes metallica for example >_>)

personally, i find them okay. nothing special, nothing too bad. for instance, if they were coming to my town to play, i'd say that's cool and waste my money on something else rather than a ticket. and they all seem stuck up, as you've said. where is the ego coming from? i personally do not think that they got their fame from talent; i think it was their looks and little girls think that's enough for a band. and i agree with you, they should've stuck to german. i don't even understand it, but the songs sound better. more meaningful.

i hadn't heard of them until this year until they were nominated for the VMA.
i don't really care about them either way, to be honest. although that guy has seriously strange hair.

i live in america. and you know what? if you don't sing in english you don't get played on the radio. i agree that music is its own language and you don't need to speak the language to appreciate the music and all that stuff but if they hadn't translated their songs MTV wouldn't play their music. the radios wouldn't play their music. no one here in america would know about them!
its messed up that it has to be like that but americans are stuck up and selfish. most don't try to learn about other cultures. the only thing i learned about the germans in school was that hitler was from germany and germans killed the jews. current culture and politics aren't discussed here.
i found out about tokio hotel on the internet before they really hit it big here. and i listened to one song in english. i liked it a lot, so i looked up their other songs, found out that they were in german, and started listening. the german versions have so much more meaning, translated they do not sound the same. but if it takes translation to spark an interest in listening to their real music then everything works out. most everyone that listens to tokio hotel in english also listens to them in german.
i do not think tokio hotel is the greatest band ever. but they have a lot of great songs and the sound really good. i like them because they are different. they have a different sound, look, and language. there are american bands i think are better and i'm sure there are german bands that are better. but i really enjoy listening to their music. their job is to preform songs people will enjoy and obviously people are or they wouldn't be so big. if they weren't good they wouldn't be big in america. there are very few bands from coutries other than english-speaking ones who have done well here.
