Music Video Confusioin
I do not understand music videos.
Originally I was going to rant about something entirely different, but I forgot what that was so I'm doing this instead.
So yeah, music videos. They're the kind of thing that you understand them completely, but at the same time have absolutely no clue. I know you've felt this way before, so I don't need to explain. Which is good cause it's really hard and would just turn into another blog entirely.
Anywhoo, one of the BIGGEST offenders of all is the music video for Teenagers by My Chemical Romance.
First of all, I understand the whole gasmask thing. That's part of MCR's... What's the word? Image? Theme? Yeah, theme.
But I don't understand the whole cheerleader thing. Why are they in a school and why would they have cheerleaders dancing behind them? I mean, they're singing about "The boys and girls in the clique" so why cheerleaders? I mean, I guess it makes sense if you really think about it, like they're cheering MCR on or something, or maybe they're being hypocritical on purpose to prove the point that we're all people and no matter what violence is never the answer because one day we may just be on the same side.
Also, the teenagers.
MCR is performing in an empty auditorium with the door chained shut? Wtf? And then the door is being pounded open every time Bob hits a drum. But when the teenagers get in, they're just sitting there like it's just another boring assembly. So then Gerard does this thing where he looks like he's having a siezure, and then they do this instrumental thing. Then Gerard points and they all start dancing? I mean, what is this? So then the teenagers jump up on stage and attack everyone and steal all their instruments and stuff, and they're being really violent. Then a thing pops up "Violence is never the answer."
So, it goes from locked vacant auditorium to crowd of lethargic teenagers to enthusiastic teenagers to a freakin moshpit.
I think I kind of understand it though. He's singing about how he's so afraid of teenagers and how they're violent and unpredictable and moody and evil and just plain scary, and it's portraying the teenagers as violent, unpredictable, moody, evil, and just plain scary.
I don't know, but music videos still make no sense to me, and yet make all the sense in the world.

Hmm. The video for Holiday doesn't make much sence either.

I've quit trying to understand music videos, really. I listen to a lot of 80s stuff, and most of those videos make like, zero sense. Of course so do the lyrics.
I didn't get the Teenagers video either.I was like, holy sh-t cheerleaders wtf?

I think in the making of Gee said that the idea of being afraid of teenagers is ridiculous hence the ridiculous video, gasmasks and what not. Music videos can really confuse me too :|

Some music videos make perfect sense 'cause they were meant to be that way, sort of to match the lyrics, and others... well... some I think the maker was just on something and had no idea. But I think the ones in between are just types of symbolism maybe, where one thing can actually symbolize something completely different.

I love video clips that go really well with the song, and ones that are really creative and fun.
