My Top Ten Songs of All Time

This list is in NO PARTICULAR ORDER. I had a hard enough time choosing just 10.
I included youtube links in case you're interested in listening to any of them.

1. Thirteen-Big Star
In grade 11, I had an english teacher who also had a degree in music, so once on ever six days, we would have "Music Appreciation". He would play music, of any genre, that he thought was worth listening to. Rock, Jazz, Classical, Indie, anything.
This was one of the songs he played. Big Star is a band from the 70s, and I love this song for it's...purity, for lack of a better word. It's just Alex Chilton singing, with a few accompanying acoustic guitars. The lyrics remind me of when we were younger, and a boy liking a girl was that simple, like won't you let me walk you home from school? Just a fantastic acoustic song.

2. If I Fell-The Beatles
This is a song from the album A Hard Days Night, and it's one of the first Beatles songs I really fell in love with. It's really sweet, and to me its about putting yourself out there and feeling completely vulnerable when you're in love.
From a musical standpoint, I love love LOVE the vocal harmonies, just amazing.

3. I Will Follow You Into The Dark-Death Cab For Cutie
Musically, this song has the acoustic guitar, soft voiced style that I like, and it really gets me emotionally. I discovered DCFC a few years ago, and we were coming up on the anniversary of when my uncle had died of cancer at the age of 31. By the end of the song, I was in tears, because it made me think so much of him and his wife. She was so supportive of him when he was sick. The line that particularly got me was You and me, have seen everything to see, from Bangkok to Calgary, and the soles of your shoes/ Are all worn down, the time for sleep is now, it's nothing to cry about, cause we'll hold each other soon. That's them, perfectly

4. Brother Down-Sam Roberts
This is a smaller Canadian band (from my hometown) that you may not have heard of, I really reccomend you check them out by listening to this song. I like it cause it's saying that we've got one life to live, so we'd be best to stop wasting it on superficial aspects and letting it pass us by. Sam Robert's also got this great voice; soft, slightly raspy, and it really gets to you

5. I'm Looking Through You-The Beatles
Probably my favourite Beatles song of all time, so it makes the list. This is the song I listen to if I want to lift my mood a little bit. The guitar intro is so upbeat and peppy, and you just gotta be happy listening to Paul's sweet voice

6.Waiting-Green Day
This song makes the list because it's one of my favourites to sing along to. Also, have you ever had a song bring back memories? When I was 13, my family drove to Prince Edward Island, which took about 14 hours. I had just bought Warning before we left, and I listened to it in my discman for nearly the whole trip, this song especially. So I love this song, but it also reminds me of that summer. The lyrics also have the power to make me feel really hopeful.

7. Use Somebody-Kings of Leon
I really don't know how I came to like this song so much. I started hearing it on the radio this summer, and I thought that after a while I'd get tired of it, as I do with most stuff on the radio. But no, I still really really like to listen to it (and sing it, and play it on piano, and play it on guitar LOL). I can't pinpoint what it is exactly, but it's a great song.

8. Fix You-Coldplay
Ahhh you gotta love Coldplay. This is from their album X&Y, and it's a song I listen to when I'm feeling really down. It's reassuring and comforting, especially when you feel kind of alone. Favourite part: But if you never try you'll never know just what you're worth

9. Words & Fire-Sam Roberts
I like this song because it's a little folksy, again, I really like acoustic stuff. I love all of Sam's stuff, but this one's really nice, it's kind of like when you're feeling completely beaten down and you're looking for someone to motivate you to keep going again.
The harmonies with the girl he has singing are also really nice, check these guys out.

10. Twist and Shout-The Beatles
Come now, I gotta include this one. One of The Beatles earliest songs, the first one I ever heard, and still one of their best. The pure energy in it is incredible, and it makes you want to do some groovy little dance that they would have done in the sixties. I first heard this when I was in grade six and I watched Ferris Bueller's Day Offf for the first time. It was a few years before I really started loving The Beatles, and this kicked it off.
I've left you with the Ferris Bueller version Very Happy
