Well, i think so. To be honest, all they contribute to Britain is the tourist industry. Its good for the economy cause people come to buckingham palace in and go 'oooh, a real live queen lives there', but apart from that they just piss me off. Especially as they cost us a heap of money too, with all their royal events and other mumbo jumbo they have for no real reason, plus the fact the royals dont pay taxes.
Its so stuck in tradition, and i know tradition is important to people and so on but really. That thing they do every night outside the tower of london? They have these guards who do a little ritual every night when they lock up saying 'i have the keys' 'who's keys?' 'queen elizabeths keys' blah blah and most nights there isnt even anyone there to see it. Its just pretentious and pointless.
Also, while the world is stressing about the terror threat, and Blairs practically busting a fucking blood vessel over the Iraq war, the Queen does nothing. I realise she wasn't ELECTED to do anything, but that just raises the question of what the hell she's supposed to do anyway.
It also pisses me off that she sits with that massive fuck off crown on her head, for no real reason other than symbolism. It makes me sick that all that money is sitting there and no one can use it, when there are so many poeple that could.
Add to that the way the royals are constantly in the papers for their ridiculously right wing views (prince philip, i mean come on, someone needs to just tape his mouth shut if they're gonna take him out of the house) and i think it probably gives off a bad impression of our country.
On the other hand, it is a symbol of being British, its kinda what we do, and while its pointless and irritating, i think a lot of people need it to stay here just cause they feel its part of our identity.
yeah, I say keep them..
I don't like the thought of having a president to rule at all :/ give me the royal family! atleast our royal family is popular in the home country
well livin in Scotland, it doesn't really affect me, but it is quite rare having a monarchy nowadays so I suppose we should keep it

Keep them, their profitable.
The amount of tourism they bring makes up 85 percent of our economy, without them we're fucked.
Plus i like the history of the monarchy and i'm a really big fan of Princess Anne, she does alot of good work, if i could i would make her next in line for the throne.

I also think having a monarchy can bring a country together, because there's a figurehead to rally round.
Plus if the government really really fucked up, if the public rallied round the queen, the house of lords can over rule Parliament.

But the royal family don't really do anything anymore. They don't rule over the country like they used to, or lead their country in war or anything like that. Plus some of what we pay in taxes goes towards them, when it could be spent on health care and things like that.

she personally helps in other country's and the business's she owns, her profits go to charity.
i'm not kidding our economy would vanish if it wasn't for the monarcy. I mean believe it or not we're still re-paying America for their help in WWII, the amount of deapt England has is quite alarming.

As a British citizen, I say we get a new one in who won't totally embaress the Royal Family. I mean all this shit about Price Harry and Prince William and Price Charles marrying Camella is just stupid. And they get all this money but lying there doing virtually nothing. I say listen to what CBC's Air Farce has got to say and then get some people who will do their job right, in there.

Do you think that if she was a normal person, she would have done all that? No, because she wouldn't be as important an individual to make a like mega humongous difference in the staving, orphaned, peoples lives.
Part of the reason I would be glad to get rid of them though would be to ditch our Govener General. Finally Adrienne Clarckson is stripped of her role as "Queen of Canada" but we still have another journalist to deal with.

i think we should keep them as it's part of our countries history and it interests me ..... The English Civil war particuarly

Basically the Parliament is in charge of Great Britain, however on every law that is passed, the queen has the final say, to my knowledge she has never not passed a law because, it could mean the government would overthrow her.
The royal family are the only reason there is still nature reserves, they support all major charity's
It also means that England can never become a dictatorship whilst the queen is on the thrown. Because she is the figurehead of the people.
After the Queen, Prince Charles is in line for the throne, then his eldest son Prince William and then Prince Harry.

princess diana isnt as brilliant as everyone thinks. the press make her out to be some modern mother teresa but she wasnt really..
