i think that home schooling can be good and can be bad. it allows more teacher-pupil interaction and may allow the pupil to progress. but, as you have said, it doesnt allow the child to develop key social skills for use in later life and it may be a hinderance.

I am home schooled.
But i agree with it. Something happened to me [dont ask me what, i dont even know] and i was unable to go back to school. No, it wasn't because of bullying. And i was fine in my classes.
But i have a wonderful tutor, and she explains things carefully and she's patient with me if i get anything wrong. Yes, i am terribly shy, and i really hate the outside, but home schooling is helping me.

I don't think you can really say your opinion on it if you haven't actually had home schooling..

I disagree...I too am painfully shy and find socialising with others difficult. But being in the school environment, mixing with thousands of pupils (most of whom hate me), dealing with demanding teachers who have ridiculous standards and being spat at in the corridors (in the case of today) only makes me stronger.

How will you ever deal with the world if you don't go out and face it head on?. Homeschooling hardly gives you good life experience. How do you plan on coping when you enter the workplace?.

Excuse me, but i did go to school in Juniors and year 7 and most of year 8. So this doesn't mean i haven't been to school at all, and i can and will cope fine when i get a job. Sure, i may not like talking to people but that's life.

You're sure about that?

Its a big, bad, bitch of a world out there, and I've said it all before so if I need to refute my point further then go and re-read my posts as i'm sure you would not appreicate my repetition. Actually, this reminds me of a boy I used to know. He started secondary school along with me and 200 other pupils. The only thing was, he never spoke to anyone. Ever. Sure, we tried to be nice to him, make friends, but he seemed uncomfortable with other people so we just left him alone. Three years later, his mother took him out of school and I presume he is now being taught at home.

I always wonder what he will do with his life, as he seemed unable to communicate with other children and adults. Perhaps he just won't get a job, maybe that would be best for him. All i'm saying is, this kid at least had chance to make friends with others while he was at school. Now what chance does he have?.

Well, some people are like that. He may think he doesn't need friends, or he's been hurt in the past and doesn't want to rely on anybody again, but i'm just guessing here.
Home schooling can be a good or bad thing, it just depends on your opinion, as we can see in this thread.

no it doesn't. it depends on the child who is being home schooled. if the child has bad social skills already, it is a hinderance. if they do not it can be of benefit to them.

I have bad socal skills, and it's helping me an awful lot. Not all children who are being home schooled are like me, it can be down to the parents who want them being home schooled, but that is a different matter..

i think people SHOULDNT be homeschooled because it makes the kids less social, sorta lonely it seems...

though i did go to this one summer camp with a home schooled girl, and she acted just fine... it depends on the person i guess

I don't think home schooling is that good of an option. You don't have any social skill or anything. I would rather go to a public school, because my friends are there. Sure there is lots of drama and stuff, but that's what makes it interesting.

People are home schooled because they are bullied at school, they have depression, lots of reasons. I think its a brilliant idea if you need to be homeschooled.

I am against homeschooling unless the child is being bullied. Like i dont approive of homeschooling from the begnning. It means parents can teach there kids about anything, race hatered etc. Also the kid/s miss out on an opportunity to socialise and they wont get that back in later life.

It just depends on the child. Some kids are more social than others, whether they're in a school or not.
I'm homschooled, and I don't have trouble talking to people. It seems weird that if being home schooled is so bad in some peoples opinion, why is it that every time I tell someone that I'm home schooled they say I'm so lucky?

I don't think people should be home schooled except in exterm cases. I mean if you don't go to school you're missing out on so much like interaction with people your own ages, schedules and other things that perpare you for when you leave.
I mean sure kids get bullied but that can happen outside school too, and anyway that sort of thing can make you stronger. Now if the kid is getting the shit kicked out of them and the bullying getting so bad they don't feel like living anymore then home schooling probably would be best.

I actually think that Home-schooling is alright because it helps the child learn at his/her own pace. If s/he doesn't understand something then s/he could take a day or two to figure it out instead of being tought it one day and then being moved on to Lesson 2 the next day.

The people who are home schooled have to go by the same syllabys that you do. They have to take the same test you do. They just learn at home.

To all those people who are saying it makes them less social.. what, do you think that they spend all their time indoors, in a cage or something? They do go out. They do interact with people. The only difference between them and you is that they learn at home, and you don't. There are many reasons why people learn at school. And there are many good reasons for home schooling.

For one, its in a one on one environment. They are able to have help. Plus, if they miss something, then the next day they can catch up, instead of just moving straight on.

If the kids are shy, then at a normal school they would never put their hand up and say they don't know something. God, I'm shy, but not overly shy, and even I don't like putting my hand up and saying I missed something.

If the kid has depression, or a mental illness, or a physical disability, then homeschooling is great, because they wont be attacked or bullied at home.
