I got one of my friends obsessed with the 2$ Bill live version of Under Pressure. I love the way they jump all at once at about half way of the song, all cute and stuff.

To hear the Used's Quinn Allman tell it, the angst-ridden screamo genre his group helped originate is endangered as cheap unleaded. "So much has changed in this past year, with the internet and Myspace," says the guitarist. "Everybody just wants to get out, shake it up and have fun. No one wants to wallow in someone else's misery and try to make it their own."

Not suprisingly, the Used's soon-to-be-released third album refkects this attitude. Produced by John Feldman at the producers home studio in upscale Bel Air, the as-yet-untitled record is a suprisingly upbeat turn from the melodrama of their 2004 sophmore hit, In Love and Death. "Everything has a lot more fun in it," says Allman. "It's definitely a messier, heavier sound, but the vocals and arrangements are still really poppy. It seems like the most natural thing we've ever done."

In the studio, Allman put his Gibson SG through a mixture of Orange, Soldano and Fender amps. He also played a Danelectro baritone guitar. "It's really cool," says Allman. "It makes all these unexpected creaks and farts. You can taste it. "
