"Having made his directorial debut on Love Actually, Richard Curtis - the writer behind slushy romantic comedies Notting Hill and Four Weddings And A Funeral - is once again taking his place in the director's chair. But his tried and tested boy-meets-girl formula looks like being replaced by a more masculine comic offering. "It's about eight men in an enclosed space with lots of drinks and drugs but no women, " Richard, 50, reveals. "My new film is inspired by Animal House and MAS*H, which are probably my two favourite movies." The "laddish" comedy will have top actors clamouring for the eight lead roles, given Richard's unbroken run of box office hits. But A-listers may miss out as Richard hinted he was keen to cast professional comics, rather than British thesps. "I've not hired comedians for my previous films but they could be right for this as these are extrovert characters, " he explains. Richard - in Los Angeles as executive producer of the American version of his Dawn French BBC sitcom The Vicar Of Dibley, retitled The Minister Of Divine, starring Kirstie Alley - frequently works with Hugh Grant and Rowan Atkinson and chances are his two lucky charms will find their way into the film somewhere. But sources close to the project tell us he has earmarked two of the parts for Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding, stars of eccentric BBC2 comedy series The Mighty Boosh. The high-profile roles would mark a huge career boost for the up-and-coming comic duo. Our showbiz spy revealed that the script is written and is now being fine-tuned before casting begins. Filming of the movie, the title of which Curtis is coyly refusing to reveal, is scheduled for March, 2008, with its release expected around Christmas next year."
