Sum 41 is a Canadian band from Ajax, Ontario. The band was formed from members of several local high school bands, 41 days into the summer of 1996. The band consists of Deryck Whibley (a.k.a. Bizzy D {lead vocals, guitar, keyboard/piano}), Jason McCaslin (a.k.a. Cone {bass and backing vocals}), and Steve Jocz (a.k.a. Stevo32 {drums and backing vocals}). Since signing a record deal with Island Records in 1999, the band has released 4 full length albums, 1 EP, and over 10 singles.

Sum 41 lead guitarist Dave Brownsound has left the band, it has just been announced. And, it seems like the split was less than amicable.

"I couldn't continue on creatively in Sum 41 without being a thorn in the side of the band," said Brownsound in a statement issued late Thursday afternoon. "As people grow, they change. All I can ask is that our fans understand and accept my thanks for being there for me whenever I was feeling happy, sad or depressed. Grab the devil by the horns and fuck him in the ass."

Brownsound, while not elaborating on his departure, insists that he and Deryck Whibley and the rest of the crew are still cool. Uh huh!

"The first thing Steve, Cone and Deryck told me was that they just want me to be happy," he says. "It was awesome to hear that we all had the same feelings. We are brothers and no matter what, they are Sum 41 and they will make an incredible album. Peace love and all of the above."

The remaining members of Sum 41 have yet to release a statement.

We've got some sad news for Sum 41 fans. It was announced today that Dave "Brownsound" Baksh, their lead guitarist, has decided to leave the band. In a press release, Dave revealed, "I couldn't continue on creatively in Sum 41 without being a thorn in the side of the band. As people grow, they change." Brownsound added, however, that there is absolutely no animosity between him and the other members of the band, saying "we are brothers."
