| Sherlock Board Parasite Age: 39 Gender: Female Posts: 35331 | There are loads of different types of Elvish.. the Elves mainly speak Quenya or Sindarin, and there is like, The Black Speech of Mordor, which is what the One Ring's speech is written in, that whole 'Asch nazg durbatuluk [One Ring to rule them all], asch nazg gimbatul [One Ring to find them]..' thing.  There's loads of other ones, and dwarvish, etc. but you can find like pretty much how to speak the whole language from the appendices at the back of the books.And yes, Tolkien was a professor of English, and primarily a philologist, so he invented the languages first, before he had written any books, and then created a world where they could fit in. He had an immense love of words and language. [/prouddork] |
