| Peardrops Addict  Age: 36 Gender: Female Posts: 11782  | Oh he gets all harrumphy and flustered about it, so I make a point of making sure he watches Torchwood  It's usually not a problem because it's his opinion and he's well aware of how fiercely i'm against it but there was something on the radio about gays and it sparked off a discussion - I told him I was going to get a girlfriend just to spite him  The essay was on how social pressure can affect language, and you had to pick points out of an article and expand on them and one of the points was that those who speak with an academic tone are more likely to be viewed as able to show knowledge than those who don't, or something like that. So I was writing about the contrast between Alan and Stephen's vocabularies and how that affects how they are perceived - I even got in "if Stephen says it, it must be true!" |
