I think it should be 16. I'm i n the US, so, it's not. Why? because I fell at 16 you're expected so much. You have to decide to go to collage, what you're going to be, where you're going to live. I think drinking or not should be a part of that choice.

The legal age being in accordance with the age one considers you a legal adult is sort of weird at times.
I know it's a general thing, but I know people that were mature at 13... and I know people that probably won't mature until someone places a tombstone on their grave. So in an ideal world where maturity can be measured, I'd look forward to having my first goblet of wine at 12 (which I did, anyway).
But the desire for and use of alcohol should be explained by the parents to the child. I don't think I liked booze more as a minor than I do now that I'm 20, in fact, I don't see much point in booze in general.. apart from getting drunk or enjoying some seriously beyond good wine.
The problem with kids drinking alcohol is that they don't understand it.
Lol. It actually does seem to me that in countries with quite a bit of turmoil (read: difficulty reinforcing stuff) there is equally enough "freedom" for things usually unallowed. Like alcohol for 7-8-year-olds.

She probably meant in the 1st world though. As in, if you have reached the level of maturity when you can go to other countries and kill people, then you're probably mature enough to have a beer. Idk, that's just how I took it.

the legal age here is 18 (UK) I however did most of the drinking I wanted to do 13 - 15.
it really doesn't matter what age you do it at as long as you moderate yourself well. most of the time I see these women in the gutter because they've been knocking bottles of wine back as they get dressed to go out and then get wasted in the club till they get thrown out
