It's Comedy And Tragedy, chapter 3
"Oh hey, I almost forgot." Said Billie Joe, bending over and opening the drawer next to him. He pulled out her cell phone and gave it to her.
"Thanks." She replied.
"So is Rai your real name? Or is it something else?"
"Nope, Sarai is my real name, but everyone just calls me Rai."
"I like that name. It's really pretty." Said Billie Joe.
"Thanks."
An awkward silence fell over them as they sat there, looking at each other. Rai felt her face turn red again, and turned away.
"This is really random, but..." Began Billie Joe breaking the silence.
Rai turned back and stared into his bright green eyes.
"Do you remember when I came back into the room to get my iPod?" asked Billie Joe.
"Yes." Replied Rai.
"Well do you remember when I smiled at you when I leaned over and grabbed my iPod?"
"Yea." Replied Rai unsure of where he was heading with this.
"Did you ever wonder why I smiled at you?" asked Billie Joe.
"You caught me checking out your ass, didn't you?" said Rai.
Billie started laughing hysterically!
"Yes!"
"Yea, sorry about that. I haven't done it since!" said Rai. "Ah shit! Yes I have. I just did it when you leaned over to grab my phone." Said Rai honestly.
"Hahaha! I felt roaming eyes!" laughed Billie Joe.
"Yea, I'm really sorry, I'll stop!" said Rai.
"Hahaha...nah it's okay, I can't help it if I'm hot!" laughed Billie Joe. "Promise you wont tell Adie, or anyone for that matter?"
"Yea, I promise" said Rai, slightly confused.
"Well when you walked out of the room to go to the bathroom, the first time, I sort of checked you out." Said Billie Joe, who was biting his bottom lip. "Hey, I can look, but I can't touch!" laughed Billie Joe.
Rai turned bright red! She felt her forehead turn extra hot! "Oh my god!" she was thinking.
"Hahaha...don't take it personally, but I would never cheat on Adie!" said Billie Joe.
"Yea, I wouldn't let you, she is so awesome!" replied Rai.
Another awkward silence fell over them. Then Billie Joe realized maybe he shouldn't have said anything to begin with, but he was desperate for a conversation to break the silence. Rai leaned back in her chair. She looked down at her phone and flipped it open: 2 NEW MESSAGES.
"Hey, I'll be right back, I'm going to check my messages." She said.
"Okay." Replied Billie Joe.
Rai got up and walked over to the door, opened it and exited the room.
She leaned against the wall. She dialed her voicemail number and patiently waited for her messages to start playing. The familiar voice came ringing in her ear.
"Hey Rai! OH MY GOD! You have to call me back as soon as you get this message and tell me everything that's happened! EVERYTHING! And don't you leave anything out you little naughty girl! Haha... okies... I'll talk to you later!"
It was her friend Jennifer.
Again, Rai waited for her second message.
"Rai, why haven't you called? Your father and I have been worried sick about you! We don't even know where you are! You didn't leave a note or anything! Did you forget that we were in Vegas this weekend? You better not be out partying with your friends! That's it! Your probably out with you friends aren't you? Well you know what? You can stay there! Don't bother coming home or calling! You are out of this house!"
Rai dropped the phone and started bursting out in tears. "This cant be true! Her parents would never do that to her! They've warned her about it before, but she never thought that they'd actually do it! Yea that's it! I'll call back and they will take me back in, she probably just said that out of anger." She thought to herself.
Rai bent down and picked up her phone she frantically dialed her home phone, and waited for someone to pick up.
"Hello?" the other voice said.
"Tracie? Hey is mom or dad there?"
"Rai? Where the hell are you?! Mom and dad are freakin' out, they don't know where you are!"
"Oh, well you're not going to believe this but I'm in the hospital with Billie Joe. Danelle, Adie, Mike, and Tre went out to eat."
"Rai! Shut up! Now really where are you!? Don't freakin' lie to me!" yelled her sister.
"I'm not lying! I swear!"
"Okay whatever here's mom."
"Thanks Tra."
"Hello?"
"Hey Mom!" said Rai.
"Rai, where the fuck are you?! You just left home and didn't tell anyone where you went!"
"I know, I forgot you guys weren't home." Rai said, realizing at what a pathetic excuse that was.
"Well where are you?" asked her mom.
"I'm in a hospital with Billie Joe Armstrong, you know who he is right?" asked Rai.
"Rai don't lie to me! Are you high?"
"No I'm not high! I'm telling you the truth!"
"You are high! And you have been partying with your friends haven't you?!"
"No mom I haven't!" yelled Rai
"Well I meant what I said before! You're out of my house! Go live with your friends!"
Her mom had hung up on her! What the hell was she suppose to do now? Oh Shit she's screwed!
She slid against the wall until her butt landed on the floor. Then she started bursting out crying. She sat there for what seemed like 15 minutes then got up and opened the door back to Billie Joe's room. She quietly walked in and shut the door behind her. She turned around and saw Billie sleeping so she walked over to a chair, sat down and continued to cry silently.
An hour had passed, and Danelle, Mike, Adie and Tre, were still not back yet. "Where the hell could they have gone?" Rai thought to herself. She heard Billie Joe wake up and she walked over to his bed. She sat beside him.
"Hey, how come your eyes are red? Were you crying?" asked Billie Joe.
"Eh, just a little bit." Replied Rai.
She put her head down so she couldn't' keep eye contact with him. Billie Joe extended his hand and lifted her chin.
"Hey baby, what's wrong? You can tell me." Said Billie Joe.
"Oh, it's really nothing." Said Rai "so you feeling better?" asked Rai desperately trying to change the subject.
"Rai, don't try to beat around the bush, what happened?"
Tears started to swell up in her eyes. She couldn't hold them back anymore. Although she didn't feel comfortable opening up to a stranger. She had to tell someone, and Billie Joe was the only person there. She took a deep breath and began,
"Well my parents kicked me out of the house, so now I have no place to stay."
"What?! Why the hell would they do that?" asked Billie Joe furiously.
"They think I'm out partying with my friends, and plus I didn't tell them where I went. They didn't believe me when I told them that I was with you."
"That's bullshit! Here call them right now! I'll talk to them!" Said Billie Joe still angry.
"No! It's alright, really, I'll figure something out. Or I can just move out somewhere. Trust me I kind of wanted to move out." Said Rai.
"But they still shouldn't of kicked you out like that!"
"I know, that's what sucks, but I'll figure something out."
"You're only fifteen, you can't move out on your own. You can move in with me, I have plenty of space!"
"NO! I can't move in with you, really, you don't want that, it's okay I can just move in with Danelle or one of my other friends. Really don't worry about me, I'll be just fine." Said Rai.
"No, really I insist!"
"Well thanks for the offer, but I'm really okay."
Rai put her head down and started to toss names around in her head of who she could move in with, well maybe Danelle was the best choice. Then Billie Joe's hand distracted her thoughts as he lifted up her chin, leaned over and kissed her softly on the lips. They both opened their eyes and pulled apart. They just stared at each other confused of what just happened.
"She's only fifteen, holy shit; I just kissed a fifteen year old! What the hell was I thinking?" Billie Joe thought to himself.
"Oh my god! Billie Joe just kissed me, holy shit, holy shit, what do I do? Was it just a sympathy kiss. Or did it really mean something, No of course it didn't mean anything, he has a wife and kids. He would never leave them for me! NEVER! I wouldn't let him either." Rai thought to herself.
"Sorry, I don't know what came over me." Said Billie Joe.
"Oh its alright, no one has to know." Said Rai, not giving him the eye contact he was seeking from her. "Hey, well are you hungry or thirsty, I'm going to go to the vending machines." Said Rai, trying to find an escape.
"Oh no, thanks I'm fine."
"Okay, I'll be right back." Said Rai.
"Okay."
Rai got up off her chair and walked over to the door, as she was walking away she found herself smiling to herself. She couldn't help but realize she just kissed Billie Joe Armstrong!
"Holy shit" she thought to herself, "I have to call Jennifer! No, I told him I wouldn't tell anyone!"
She reached the vending machine when she heard laughter hollering through the halls. "They're back" she thought. "okay, don't act weird, act normal." She inserted her dollar into the machine and pressed 12.
"Hey Rai!" said Danelle.
"Oh hey you guys, did ya'll have fun?" asked Rai, trying to act as normal as possible.
"YES! Tre stuck a carrot up his nose!" yelled Danelle. "Here I took a picture of it on my phone." Danelle pulled out her phone and showed Rai the picture. They both started laughing.
"Is Billie okay?" asked Adie.
"Oh yea he's fine." Replied Rai.
"Oh okay, I'll meet you guys in the room." Said Adie.
Mike, Tre, Rai, and Danelle were taking their time walking back to the room, talking about all sorts of things. They finally reached the room and Danelle opened the door to find Billie Joe asleep and Adie sitting at the table reading a magazine she had bought when they went out.
They quietly walked in the room trying to let Billie sleep in peace and quiet, until Tre tripped over his shoelace and fell flat on his face. All their heads turned to Tre to find him face down on the floor. Everyone started bursting out laughing hysterically. Billie Joe heard the noise and woke up.
"What the hell! I am trying to sleep!" Yelled Billie Joe.
"Oh shut up! You've been sleeping all day!" said Mike
"No I haven't!" replied Billie Joe.
"Then what else did you and Rai do while we weren't here?" asked Mike jokingly.
Rai and Billie glanced at each other and replied at the same time.
"NOTHING!"
"Uhuh, sure, I know you Rai! She raped you didn't she Billie?" joked Danelle.
They all laughed. Rai and Billie Joe still looking at each other.
"No! of course not! We just talked." Replied Billie Joe.
Mike, Adie, Danelle, and Tre looked at each other kind of confused at Billie Joe's shakiness in his voice. Billie Joe and Rai looked at each other really nervous.
"Did something happen that I should know about?" asked Adie with a worried look on her face.
"No! Of course nothing happened! C'mon Adie, she's 15 and I'm 33."
"Okay, but I don't know, you both can be pretty crazy!" laughed Adie uncomfortably.
"Yea well not that crazy." Said Rai, trying to ease the situation.
"I don't know about that! Rai you would do anything to him if you had the chance!" laughed Danelle.
"Holy shit Danelle, can't you keep your fucking mouth shut!" yelled Rai.
Rai got up and walked out of the room, she didn't know where she was going, but she just continued walking. She heard a door slam, but she just ignored it. She felt a hand rest on her shoulder. She looked up and saw Mike.
"Hey." Said Mike, "Why did you storm out like that? You know Danelle was only kidding right?"
"Yea, I know. Hey no offense Mike, but I think I just need some time alone. I'll be back at the room soon, okay?
"Yea okay, I understand." Said Mike starting to worry at what she was so upset about. "Well you know I'm always here for you if you need to talk, right?"
"Yep, I know. Thanks Mike!"
Rai gave him an appreciative smile and gave him a hug. Mike bent down and kissed her forehead.
"No problem hun." Said Mike.
Mike walked off back to the room. Rai continued walking until she reached the end of the hall at the exit double doors. She opened the door and walked down the sidewalk. Rai was so confused at how her life had completely turned into a mess in just a couple of days. She had no home, she just kissed Billie Joe which she felt incredibly guilty about, and her best friend wasn't acting the way she used to. Now that she looked back at what she just thought about, her life didn't seem that bad, it could be worse. Despite the fact that she was homeless.
Her phone started vibrating. She looked at it and saw a familiar name, Jennifer.
"Hey Jen! What's up?" asked Rai
"Hey Rai! Holy shit okay tell me everything!" yelled Jennifer into the phone.
"Well, I'm not really in the mood for telling ya everything, is it okay if I just tell you when I get back home?"
"Yea of course its okay, but are you okay, you seem kind of sad?"
"Oh no, I'm fine. Just a little tired."
"Oh okay, I'll talk to you later! Bye!
"Bye Jennifer." Said Rai, less energetically then she meant to say it.
Rai looked down at her phone, it was 6:45 PM. She has been out for an hour and a half already. "I better head back, they're probably worried about me." Rai though to herself.
She turned around and started walking back to the hospital. She didn't realize at how far she had walked.
"Thanks." She replied.
