Too Many Guts, Not Enough Glory, chapter 2
"..... I have to go." Billie Joe said to Adrienne as she stirred. She wake up and looked at him with her beautiful eyes and they started to water. She hugged him without saying any words. She then started to cry on his bare chest. She hugged her and then felt tears coming to his eyes. Was he doing the right thing? Did he really want to leave Adrienne forever? She broke away and then looked at him with her puffy red eyes "Please don't go. Please don't leave me. I can't live without you." She whispered. Billie Joe pushed her off of him and sat up. She wrapped her arms around his waist and cried into his shoulder.
"I have to go baby. I'm so sorry." Billie Joe said before he went upstairs to get ready for being shipped out to Europe. He walked through the door and pulled on some clean clothes. Once he was ready he checked his watch he had 2 hours left. He walked down the stairs and Adrienne was standing at the bottom of the stairs. Billie Joe put his bag down and went to hug her but she turned away.
"Baby I already said I was sorry but...." Adrienne turned bad round and slapped Billie Joe hard round the face. He grabbed his face as Adrienne let all the tears flood her eyes. She took his bag and threw it outside. "There you can't wait to get away from me. So there you go. Go and fight for your country and see if I care if you get killed. And have your ring back." Adrienne said as she threw the ring at Billie Joe. He picked the ring off of the floor and then ran after Adrienne up the stairs. He grabbed her arm and then he broke down her hugged her tight and the two lovers hugged and cried in each others arms.
Billie Joe got to the boat with loads of young men kissing their girlfriends good-bye for the last time. Billie Joe dumped his bag and looked around the harbor and then he saw Adrienne. She looked happy. She ran up to him and hugged him. She then kissed him passionately on the lips. She cupped her face in his hands and kissed her hard on the lips. She then broke away and said "Now you go and fight. But you make sure that you come home to me. And...."
"And what baby." Billie Joe said with his arms around Adrienne's waist.
"And your baby." Adrienne said as she rubbed her stomach. Billie Joe brought her in for another hug. "When? How? What happened?" Billie Joe said confused.
"That night me and you spent together two weeks ago." Adrienne said. Billie Joe cupped her face in his hands.
"I love you. You're so beautiful and I will make you and our baby proud." Billie Joe said. He kissed her for what seemed to be for Adrienne the last time ever. Billie Joe boarded the ship and went over to a group of men about his age. Two were smoking and another was waving at his girlfriend. I blow Adrienne a kiss as the boat left and I could see that all the women were crying and hugging each other as the boat left the harbor.
One of the men that were smoking walked over to me. He was wearing a gray vest top and green army pants and black boats. "Don't worry about it. You be home soon to hold that sweet ass of a girlfriend of yours."
"I miss her already." Billie Joe said with his hands in his pockets.
"Wanna smoke." The guy asked. Billie Joe took a cigarette and let it. He took a long drag. "Looks like you needed that. By the way I'm Mike Dirnt." Mike said putting his hand out.
"Billie Joe Armstrong." Billie Joe said as he took Mike's hand. He shook it.
"So you ready."
"I just wanna kill Hitler. Maybe my kid won't have to grow up in war." Billie Joe said.
"Oh you got a little baby. How old?"
"Not born yet. Will be in nine months but till then... " Billie Joe took another drag. "I gotta fight for my country.".....
