They're Not Always the Good Guys, chapter 1

"So you're going out tonight?" asked my flatmate, Marcia, who was watching me apply a smudge of black eyeliner and a bit of bronze lipstick.

"Yeah, how'd you guess?" I replied with a laugh and packing up my make-up. I was going back to my favourite club, Le Viva de Nuit, French for 'The Nightlife'. I'd seen three, great looking guys there last week, and I was hoping to run into them tonight.

"You're after those guys who were there last week, aren't you, Xoe?" she interrogated me. I'd told her about them, obviously, she says I haven't spoken about anything else all week.

"Yes, I am. Do you wanna come? I saw Elijah there, too," I said, looking at her in the mirror with a cheeky smile. Elijah was her boss and crush. She'd been trying to pick up the courage to ask him out for almost three months now.

"No thank-you," Marcia replied, losing just a little bit of colour in her face. "I-I-I'd rather not... Oh, God, I'm such a coward!"

"It's ok, Marcie," I said giving her a hug. "You'll know when you're ready to ask him out. It's just not tonight. Here, go buy yourself a tub of icecream and some chick-flicks and enjoy yourself, okay?" I suggested, handing her a twenty.

"Thanks, Xo," replied Marcia, smiling at me. "You're too good to me, you know that?"

"Yeah, and I'll never learn," I grinned back at her, then walked down the hall to the front door. "You behave yourself, Marcie, ok? See you later!"

"Bye Xo!" she called after me as I hopped into a taxi and drove off to Le Viva de Nuit.
