Living Life A Bit Differently, chapter 1

The green crayon dragged along the paper slowly, an attempt to make a grassy hill. His tongue sticking out from the corner of his mouth, he colored in the bottom of the page, green as an emerald.
"Good job, Billie. Now make a blue sky." Ms. Nesser praised him.
She handed Billie a blue crayon, patting him on the shoulder. He smiled.
"Thank you, Ms. Nesser." Billie answered, going back to his drawing.
Ms. Nesser smiled to herself and turned back to her other students. She loved working in the special education department. It was the feeling she recieved, feeling proud at the fact that she helped others less fortunate; others like Billie Joe Armstrong. A man who was diagnosed with mental retardation at the age of six.
"Pretty puppy, Susy. But why is it pink?" Ms. Nesser asked another student sitting at another desk across the room from Billie.
"Because I want a pink puppy." Susy answered proudly, grabbing a purple crayon and covering the drawing in purple spots.
Ms. Nesser continued on her circular pattern around the room, checking each pupil, helping some with homework, others with drawings. The door opened, and closed, standing in the doorway was a tall dark-haired man, tattoos covered his arms and a pair of sunglasses shielded his eyes.
A frenzy of Hi's and Hey's filled the room, before being quieted down by the teacher.
"Hey." the man answered simply, waving to no one inparticular.
He walked over to Ms. Nesser, and talked with her quietly. They both laughed every so often.
"Ms. Nesser! I finished!" Billie called, holding his paper in the air and waving it back and forth.
The two walked over to him, smiling. Billie handed Ms. Nesser the drawing of as best a meadow he could manage to draw, smiling back at them.
"Hi, Mike." he said, addressing the tall man.
"Hey, Bill. How are you?" Mike asked nicely.
"I'm good, Ms. Nesser taught me how to add numbers." he answered excitedly.
"Oh yeah? Whats two plus two?" Mike asked the black-haired man.
"Four." Billie responded.
"Thats great. You're a natural Einstein. Keep it up." Mike grinned, high-fiving Billie, who gave no indication that he knew who Albert Einstein was.
Ms. Nesser winked at her student before glancing towards Mike. She leaned in and kissed his cheek graciously.
"Can I have a kiss?" Billie asked innocently.
Ms. Nesser smiled before bending down to him (sitting in a chair), and kissed him on the cheek.
"Hey, Buddy. You stealin' my girl?" Mike laughed.
"No." Billie answered, smiling.
"Good, 'cause God knows you definately could if she weren't with me." Mike answered, smiling again.
He looked towards his girlfriend, who had a grin on her face. "You make me feel like a possession instead of a human being." she answered, rolling her eyes.
"You know it, Adrienne." Mike stifled a laugh, winking at the more-than-confused man sitting at the desk.
Adrienne swatted Mike playfully in the arm before bending back down to Billie's height. She whispered in his ear and he giggled.
"What you up to?" Mike asked.
Billie continued to giggle, even as he leaned in and kissed Adrienne's cheek.
"Ah, you...you man, you. Stealin' your teacher's heart." Mike smiled, earning another small laugh from Billie.
"Okay, okay. The class is almost over for the day, we have to start cleaning up. Billie, would you like to collect the crayons?" Adrienne asked.
Billie nodded and stood up. He walked over to shelf and took down a yellow bin and went around the room, collecting the crayons as well as saying "hi" to fellow classmates.
"Ike, would you like to erase the board for today?" Adrienne/Ms. Nesser asked another student.
A stalky man with red hair smiled and got up, moving towards the front of the classroom, towards the chalkboard.
Once Billie Joe was finished collecting crayons, he put the bin back on the shelf and sat back down at his desk. He turned to another girl beside him.
"Hi, Lauren." he greeted her.
She smiled, blue eyes filled with innocent joy. An innocence only she, her classmates, and small children knew of: unknowing. The fact that their mind could not process hurt, emotional pain, bad, made her innocent. Pure, in a sense.
"Hi, Billie." she answered, waving.
"What are you gonna do today?" Billie asked, turning in his seat a little bit more.
"My brother is comin' over." Lauren responded, "You?"
"I have work, Frank is gonna show me how to make a cheeseburger." Billie answered.
"Thats nice, I like cheeseburgers," Lauren looked towards the clock above the door, classmates were filing out of the classroom, "Well, I'll see you tomorrow, Billie. Bye." she got up and exited as well.
Billie also stood up and walked towards the door. He turned to Mike and Adrienne. "See ya, Buddy." said Mike.
"Bye, Buddy." Billie repeated, waving.
"See you tomorrow, Billie." Adrienne said politely, smiling.
"Okay. Bye." and he was out the door.

I'm not very good at 'creating' mentally challenged personalities, if that makes sense. I've never been around someone like that, so...I tried my best.
