Homecoming, chapter 2
I looked out the window of the car as we approached the house. It also looked real expensive too. Who are these people, I thought. I put it in the back of my mind though as my door suddenly opened and Billie was standing there, gesturing for me to get out. My knees were shacking and my stomach was turning, but something made me keep walking. They were on their way to the house already, so I grabbed my bag and started walking too. When I got in there, they were taking off their jackets and putting them in a nearby closet. I did the same, and then realized that they didn't have any shoes on. I looked over by the door and saw three or four pairs of chucks, but Adrienne's shoes weren't there.
"Where do I put my shoes?" I asked, looking mainly addressed towards Adrienne who was messing with something in the kitchen.
"Over there in the closet," Adrienne said pointing to the closet I put my coat in.
But at the same time Billie said, "Right there at the door," and pointed at the pile of chucks. I just stood there looking at them.
"Either spot is fine," Adrienne laughed. I looked down at the pile of muddy chucks, then up at the closet, then down at my shoes. I figured all of Adrienne's nice shoes were in the closet, so I put my trashed ones by the door, then sat down on the couch with Billie.
There was a long pause. "What do I do now?" I asked watching Billie.
He looked over at me. "Well judging by your personality, go explore." I looked at him to make sure he wasn't kidding. Then he started laughing and waved his hands, gesturing me to go. "If you get lost or anything, just yell."
I looked around, trying to decide were to head first. Then I ran up a set of stairs and looked around. A big hallway with five doors. Take your pick, I thought. There was one right in front of me, so I ran in there. I was so excited, but then it was just a bathroom so I went through the next door to the right of it. There was a drum set, and tons of guitars. I ran and picked one up, I loved guitars. They looked like they would be so much fun to play. I threw the strap around my shoulder and just held it. I felt so strange. I looked down at the string and hit it lightly. The guitar made a soft hum, so I strummed a few more. I played for about ten minutes when Billie was walking by and stopped and looked at me.
"Here you are," he said, looking at me holding the guitar. I looked up, breaking my concentration.
"Oh, sorry," I said, frantically putting it back.
"Do you know how to play?" he asked, pointing to the guitar.
"No are you kidding me, I've lived in an orphanage all my life. The only thing I knew how to play was this little five key piano that when you hit the keys some dude from sesame street popped out and sang you a song!" I laughed, "It would be awesome to know though."
He laughed to, "I'll teach you someday, anyway, Adrienne says I need to give you the tour before the boys get home. So follow me-"
"Wait, what?" I asked interrupting him.
He looked at me for a second, then he remembered that he hadn't told me about Joey and Jakob. "Oh yeah, Joey, he's ten, and Jakob is seven. You should get along with them just fine."
I just stood there and glared at him. I had no idea I had siblings, especially boys. Boys always acted like they were so much bigger than everyone else. It was so annoying. "You... .don't look happy," he said a little shaky. I just looked up at him and met his green eyes, hoping he could read my face. "Ok, how 'bout this, I never told you. They're comin' but you don't know it, Ok?"
I started laughing, "Yeah, whatever."
He smiled, and went back to his tour, "Ok, this is the band room. Me and Tre' and Mike all practice in here every now and then."
"Sweet, you're in a band?" I asked, and my eyes lit up.
"Yeah, its called Green Day, you might of seen us on TV once or twice," he said smiling as I looked around the room. It seemed totally different now. "Anyway, there's more house to see so let's go."
He showed me the rest of the house and the boys' rooms. Then it got to my room. It looked awesome. Adrienne had tagged along when we got to the kitchen and gave me a peanut butter sandwich.
"I let Billie decorate it, so if you like it thank him, and if you don't blame me," she said laughing. I ran in, there was a stereo, and a cd case that had all the green day cds in it (of course) and some other bands. The walls were painted a normal white, but there was a twin sized bed with dark purple sheets, and a lighter purple blanket for a comforter. The carpet was black, and there was no windows.
"I love it!" I yelled giving Billie and Adrienne a hug. Then the door bell rang, and two people ran in the house.
They were standing right in front of me. "Ewww, it's a girl!" Jakob snarled.
"Yeah, you got a problem with it?!" I yelled. I clenched my hands, and looked straight at his eyes. His eyes got wide and he looked like he was about to cry. I just stood there for a couple seconds. Then, all of a sudden Billie busted out laughing. I guess he figured it would be the other way around. I looked like I was about to punch him and he looked like he was about to start bawling.
"You two quit or your goin' to bed. Jakob, you've lived in a house with a girl in it since you were born, it wont be that different," she said sternly, then she turned to me. "And Jill, he's a boy, you live in a house full of them now. It's hard, I know, but that's just one of those things you gotta get used to," she said to me kindly. There was a long pause.
"Cool, anyway, Jill is it?" Joey asked.
"Yeah," I said, "you."
"Joey, and that thing over there," he said, gesturing towards the other, "is Jakob. Well I'm glad we all seem to know each other sooooo well," he said with a smile, then went to his room to finish a little bit of homework.
"Well, you guys its nine thirty. Go get ready for bed," Billie said.
"Do we have to?" Jakob whined.
"Shut up punk," I said without looking at him.
"Jill," Adrienne said, I assumed for an apology.
"Sorry," I said quietly, and we headed up the stairs.
"Why do you hate me?" Jakob asked halfway up. He sounded like a little girl.
"I don't hate you," I said still without looking at him, "others of your kind just made a bad impression." I could tell he was confused. I smiled, and headed for the bathroom to brush my teeth.
"Where do I put my shoes?" I asked, looking mainly addressed towards Adrienne who was messing with something in the kitchen.
