You're My Angel, chapter 4

Saturday approached far too quickly for everyone. Green Day was going back on tour and they didn't know for how long. It could be months before Adriana would get to see them again. She couldn't believe that they were already leaving... it seemed like they had just gotten back.

Adriana managed to squeeze everyone in her SUV so she could drop the guys off at the airport. Billie sat in the front with her and Tré, Lisea, and Mike and his girlfriend all crammed in the back. There was plenty of traffic on the way there which gave everyone a little more time together.

Although she and Billie talked like they normally did, she felt weird for some reason. She shrugged it off because she figured it was just because he was leaving and she would miss him.

Everyone else had already said their goodbyes and boarded the plane that would be flying them to Nevada. Billie and Adriana were left standing at the gate. She wanted the few minutes they had left together to last forever, but she knew they couldn't.

"You'd better go," she told him as she looked out the windows at the plane that was awaiting him. "I wouldn't want you to miss your flight."

"Yeah," he sighed.

She wiped away a few tears that fell from her eyes. She hated it when they left... she always dreaded the saying bye part and it was already time to do it again.

"Please don't cry," he said pulling her close to him to hug her. "That makes it really hard for me to leave."

"I know, I know... " she sighed. "I just really hate it when you guys leave... and then I don't know when the tour is going to end this time either. This really sucks."

Her eyes burned because of the tears that she was trying to hold back. She buried her face in his shoulder as he hugged her again.

"Well I must be your favorite," he laughed. "You didn't cry when everyone else left."

"Yeah," she mumbled.

"Why's that?" he questioned.

"I don't know, Billie... " she told him. "I love you and have fun... hopefully I'll see you soon."

"I love you too," he said before giving her a kiss on her tear-stained cheek. "Bye, Adriana."

She stood where he left her and watched him walk in the opposite direction until she couldn't see him anymore. She sat down in one of the nearby chairs and stayed there until the plane pulled away from the gate. She tried to fight back the tears that were threatening to fall, but once again she lost that struggle.

--

The next weekend, Adriana decided to go see Ollie to see how she was doing. She knocked on the door and was greeted by Billie's sister who was visiting for the week. She told Adriana that Ollie was outside on the patio.

"How have you been holding up?" Ollie asked.

"Good, I guess... " she sighed. "I just miss Billie and they don't even know when they are coming back."

"I know, sweetie... " she smiled. "I miss him, too," she paused.

She stared at the grass beneath her feet for a long time. Ollie must have read her mind because she said exactly what Adriana was thinking.

"You've got to tell him how you feel, honey... " Ollie started to say when Anna opened the patio door.

She came outside and sat beside her mother. The three of them talked for a while before she returned to the house where she had been making dinner.

"Ana, seriously... " she told her. "Now would be the perfect time since there is nobody to get in your way... you know, he is entirely in the dark about all of this."

"So he doesn't have a clue about any of it?" she asked as she sat down in the hammock.

"I don't think so," she sighed. "He hasn't said anything about it to me if he does. But he has kept a lot of things from me, honey... you'll have to talk to him about it."

Adriana knew that his mother was right. She was too scared to tell him, though... she had absolutely no idea how he would react to all of it. She would rather have to suffer the rest of her life by only getting to be his best friend, than to tell him and have him deny her. She couldn't stand the thought of that happening.

--

Seven weeks had passed and Adriana was completely miserable. She was sitting all alone on her couch trying to find something on TV to watch. She was a little irritated that Billie had talked her into moving out of her house that she had been really comfortable in. Her phone started ringing and she leaned over the arm of the couch and turned on the speakerphone.

"Hello," she said.

"Hey, it's Tré!!" he said excitedly. "Did you miss me?"

"You called yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that... Tré, you call me every single day," she laughed. "But, yes... I miss you!"

They had been on the phone talking about random stuff for a long time. He seemed really excited about something but Adriana wasn't sure what it was and she didn't ask either.

She asked to talk to Billie so Tré put him on the phone for a few minutes. He seemed to be taking things better than he had been when the summer first started. He didn't even show any signs that he had been thinking about Jamie... she found that a little weird because in the past it had always taken him a long time to move on. Overall, she took his cheerfulness as a good sign and figured that it would probably be okay to talk to him when he got home.

After talking to him for a while she got back on the phone with Tré to see what he had been so excited about. Unfortunately, he would not shut up because he had a million and one more questions to ask her.

"Okay, if you were stranded on a deserted island and you had to pick one person that was there with you... and it has to be me, Mike, or Billie... who would it be?" he asked. "Oh, and you have to tell me why you picked that person."

"You're so random," she said after not saying anything for a few seconds. "But I would pick you."

"Whatever," he smirked. "You are just fucking saying that because you're on the phone with me."

"No I'm not... seriously, I would pick you," she ensured him. "That way I could be entertained while we still had food to eat... then, when we ran out of food I would resort to cannibalism and I would be able to survive for a long time by eating you! Billie and Mike are too skinny!" They both laughed.

"That's because they are vegetarians," he laughed. "Okay, I have something to tell you," he said in a more stern voice.

"What?" She was a little worried by the seriousness in his words.

"Mike got really sick yesterday... the flu or something... so we are flying home tomorrow afternoon so he can rest for a week or two!!" he said eagerly. "I have to go now... me and Billie have an interview in a few minutes."

"Wait... " she said all of a sudden.

"What?" he asked putting the phone back up to his ear.

"Has Billie been okay?" she asked trying not to give too much away about his decision to part ways with his wife.

"He has been acting a little different than normal... standoffish, I guess you could say," he told her. "Why? Do I need to be worried about him or something?"

"No... " she tried to think of something to say next. "I... uh... he just sounded weird on the phone earlier, that's all," she lied. "I'll see you tomorrow then."

They both hung up the phone. Adriana was very excited to find out that her misery would only last for just one more night. But she also felt nervous because that meant she only had the night to figure out what she was going to say to Billie.

--

Adriana was just falling asleep on her couch when the door unlocked and swung wide open. Feeling a little more than startled, she sat up and was relieved when she saw Tré standing in the doorway. She stood up and he ran over to give her a hug nearly knocking her down in the process.

"Go shut the door," she told him as she turned around to sit back down. "You're letting all of the cold air out."

"Billie told me about him and Jamie splitting up," he said hurriedly as he joined her on the couch. "I can't believe that you didn't tell me... but I guess I can forgive you," he smiled.

"Yeah... isn't it great?" she laughed. "And sorry I didn't tell you... but that was the reason why you had to leave that one day... something about you telling him that you told him so... "

"Yeah... okay," he sighed. "So, I've got some bad news... I would hav... "

"What? Tell me what's wro... " she was cut off by a knock on the door.

"... and there it is," he said uneasily.

Her heart skipped a beat when Billie came into her apartment with another girl.
