Love and Suicide-not a Green Day story, well sort of, chapter 1
"He couldn't live without her." Jenny Phillips said.We were sitting in Aiden's living room. Aiden was a good friend of ours.
"We all knew that. I still don't understand..." I trailed off. After all, he was my brother, and one of my best frriends."
"Hey, I know what it's like to lose someone, Lori. It'll be okay, trust me." Ashlee, another one of our closest friends, said to me. I guess to understand this, you have to understand Aiden. I guess we'll have to start at the begining...
*Flashback*
It was the summer of ' 81. I sat in my room in silence, listening to Aiden and Brad fight. Brad is my step-father. I think he's okay. Aiden hates his guts. I heard my mother try to pull them apart. The whole fight was about Aiden's new girlfriend, Alice. Alice had issues. Her mother was a druggie who's new job was at Faces, the biggest strip club in the area, and Alice was heading in the same direction. She always skipped school during the school year, she cut her wrist when she was 12, and she has had so many eating disorders that there was too many to count. However, Aiden loved her.
"She's no good for you!" Brad screamed.
"Just like you're no good for our mother!" Aiden screamed right back.
"I am good for your mother! You wouldn't be living in this nice, new house if it wasn't for me!" Brad screamed. He did have a point.
"We never wanted to move here! We were fine in L.A.! You just had to show-" Aiden screamed back. He was right.
"You weren't fine in L.A.! You wouldn't be going to Yale next year if we hadn't moved! You're an intelligent boy, Aiden! L.A. wasn't giving you what you needed!" Brad sounded frustrated.
"The heck it wasn't! Oh, and didn't I tell you? I'm not going to Yale next year; I dropped out of the deans list!" I heard Aiden walk out of the house and slammed the front door.
'Aiden, what are you doing?! You can't drop out of Yale! That's your future!' I thought to myself. ' I have to find him!' I ran down the stairs. I caught up to him halfway down the road.
"Aiden, where are you going?" I had to ask.
"To Aly's. Wanna come?" Aiden asked me. He called Alice 'Aly'.
"Um sure. Why did you drop out of Yale?!" I asked.
"I don't belong there." Aiden simply said.
"So,why are you going to Aly's? Didn't you just talked to her?" So many questions. I just had to ask.
"To prove a point." Aiden said. We turned into Alice's yard and Aiden knocked on the door.
Alice opened the door. She was wearing a TIGHT black tee; too tight for modesty. She had this super short black mini on, with black high-heels. She had on super bright red lipstick on, deep blue eyeshadow, black mascara, and her hair was in this high-pony tail mess.
"Hey, babe! What are you doing here?" Alice asked with a smile on her face.
"Marry me." Aiden said suddenly.
"WHAT?!" Both Alice and I said at the same time.
"I said, marry me." Aiden said. He was now on one knee.
"Yeah!" Alice said. Aiden jumped up and hugged Alice.
"Hey, Lori, if you don't mind, will you please go home?" Aiden asked.
"Sure." I walked home.
When I walked through the front door, I faced an upset mother and a VERY angry step-dad.
"Where the heck is Aiden?" Brad asked.
"At Aly's, possibly planning out wedding plans right now." I said. I loved toying with their minds.
"What?!" My mom jumped off the couch where she was sittting.
"Yeah, can you believe it? He asked her to marry her!" I said with a smile across my face. I thought Aly was okay, and I was happy they were getting married.
"Oh my God! My baby boy!" Was all that my mother could say.
The wedding was beautiful. It wasn't until a couple of years later that it all came to an end. It was 1984 and Aly was pregnant with their first baby. Money was short and the baby was due any moment. I moved out of my parents house and moved into their apartment. I was going to take care of the baby, so that they can both work. I noticed Aiden acting differently. I found out he was doing drugs and drinking alot. I found this out by a fight. They were making out on the couch when it started.
"Aiden, what is this?" Aly asked.
"They're my prescriptions, baby." Aiden said very causully.
"Are you doing drugs?" I heard Aly spring up from the couch.
"They're prescriptions." Aiden said again.
" Oh my God, you are!" Aly said angerly.
"They are prescriptions." Aiden said again.
"Aiden, prescriptions don't look like sugar!" Aly yelled. I could tell she was ticked.
"Mine do." Aiden said. I could actually hear the smile coming on to his face.
"Yeah, yours does because they're drugs, Aiden!" Aly screamed.
"So what if they are drugs? Your mother did drugs, and she was a dog, too." Aiden said.
"Don't say that about my mother!" I heard Aly scream.
"What's the freakin problem?! Your mom did drugs, and you lived with her for 17 years!" Aiden screamed.
"Get out!" Aly said. I could tell she was about to cry.
"No, you get out!" I heard Aiden scream.
"You know what? I want a divorce!" Aly screamed.
"Fine!" Aiden screamed. He left and slammed the door.
Aly started to cry. I ran in there to confort her. They got a divorce and I lived with Aly to help raise the child. Aly gave birth to a baby girl, named Rilla, but unfortunetly decided to give her up for adoption. It had been a while since Aiden and Aly had seen each other, so Aly decided to date. It was 1989, and Aly was engaged. Suddenly, Aiden appeared out of nowhere. He saw Aly and the guy she was with kiss and he went mad. Aiden tackled the poor guy and that guy was never seen again. Aly was ticked.
"Aiden what are you doing here?" Aly asked Aiden.
"Who was that?" Aiden asked back.
"The guy I was going to marry!" Aly yelled at him.
"No you weren't." Aiden said.
"Why not?" Aly asked.
"Because that's why I'm here. I want us to get married again." Aiden said with a smile
"What?! No,never!" Aly said.
"Why not?" Aiden asked.
"Because, 1. You're drunk. 2. We haven't seen each other in about 5 years. 3. you're still on drugs!" Aly said. She sounded frustrated.
"No I'm not!" Aiden said.
"Yes, you are! I can tell!" Aly said.
"No you can't!" Aiden said.
"Yes I can!" Aly said.
"No you cant!"
"Yes I can!"
"No!"
"Yeah!"
"No!"
"Yea- you know what? I'm not going to argue with you. Lori, are you spending the night here?" Aly asked me.
"No, I think I'm going to go home. Thanks though." I said.
"Lori you live somewhere else?" Aiden asked.
"Yeah, I live with Ashlee and Jenny now." I said. Ashlee and Jenny used to go to school with Aiden and I. They were my best friends in school.
"Oh. Tell Jenny I said hi." Aiden said with a smile on his face.
"See that's another reason why I won't marry you! You can't stop flirting!" Aly yelled. She was mad.
"So...will you marry me?" Aiden asked again.
"No!" Aly screamed at him.
"Okay, can we date?" Aiden asked.
"Uhh, fine! We can date! But it's not going anywhere! You will just be wasting your time." Aly said. She started to her apartment.
"Yes!" Aiden said."So how about tomorrow?" He asked.
"Sure." Aly said." Goodnight Lori." She said to me.
"Goodnight Alice." I said to her and walked home.
Aiden and Aly dated for a long time after that. Aiden, Aly, Jenny, Ashlee, and I formed this inspretable bond. Aiden became clean, finally. It was now 2006. Aiden and Aly had been dating for 17 years now. I called them the married couple, but that wasn't happaning. They would have little fights, but nothing like the big one. Aly was cleaning their room, yeah they lived together now, and she found a bag just like the one she found that one night in 1984. That started it. Then she was looking on his cell phone and found love messages from some girl. She was beyond ticked.
"Aiden, who in the freak is this? And what the freak is this?" Aly asked Aiden when he walked through the door. She chunked both items at him.
"Oh this is my...my..." Aiden couldn't come up with a good answer for the cell phone.
"So you are cheating on me! So what's that Aiden?" Aly said pointing at the bag of drugs.
"Those are prescriptions!" Aiden screamed at Aly.
"The freak they are, you told me that 22 years ago!" Aly screamed back.
"They really were!" Aiden screamed back.
"Oh, really? When did you go to the doctor then?!" Aly asked.
"Umm..." Aiden said.
"That's what I thought. Get Out!" Aly screamed. Aiden stepped towards her.
"You know what Alice? No matter how many times you kick me out, I'll always be back because I love you!" Aiden said.
"Oh really?" Aly said. She started to head towards the garage.
"Where are you going?" Aiden followed her.
"It's a shame you love me because I sure as freak don't love you!" Aly said. She pulled out a long rope and headed towards the kitchen, where there was a ceiling fan.
"What are you doing?" Aiden asked.
"Getting away from you!" Aly said. She tied one end the rope around her neck and the other around the ceiling fan. She stood on a chair and kicked it out from under her and hung herself.
"No! Aly!" Aiden began to cry and scream. He stopped crying long enough for him to grab the shotgun and shoot himself in the head.
*Flashback ends*
And that is what brings us to his living room. It was only Jenny, Ashlee and I.
"I know." I said replying to Ashlee.
"Why would he kill himself after she died?" I asked.
"He couldn't live without her." Jenny said again.
"That's true. This last time they were together for 17 years." Ashlee said.
"I can remember Brad say Alice was no good for him. I guess he was right." I said.
"Whatever happened to your parents?" Ashlee asked me.
"I don't know." I said.
Jenny, Ashlee and I were the only ones who attended the funeral. Or so I thought. I turned around and saw my mother. I ran up to her and hugged her.
"Mom! What are you doing here? Where's Brad?" I asked her.
"I'm here for the funeral, and Brad and I broke up a long time ago." My mom said.
"Oh, sorry to hear that." I said.
"It's okay.Where are you staying at?" My mother asked me.
"Oh with a couple of friends. Mom, can I come stay with you?" I asked.
"Sure." Mom said.
"Okay, let me tell them." I said walking towards Ashlee and Jenny.
While I was telling them, a black car pulled up. Out stepped a girl who looked like she was 22 years old. She walked over to us.
"Hi,my name's Rilla,i'm here for Aiden and Alice Peterson's funeral." She said to us.
"You're Rilla?!" I asked shocked.
"Yeah,Aiden and Alice were my parents." Rilla said.
"Yeah, umm I'm your aunt." I said with a smile.
"Oh." Was all Rilla said.
We both walked over to their gravestones.
"I guess this would make you the daughter of love and suicide." I said to Rilla.
"Yeah, like the son of rage and love, the Jesus of Suburbia." Rilla said.
"When your mom gave you up, trust me that was the best thing she could of done for you." I said.
"Yeah, I know." Rilla said. "I gotta go. I could only stay for a bit." Rilla left.
I stayed behind for a while before I finally left and put this story of love and suicide behind me.
"We all knew that. I still don't understand..." I trailed off. After all, he was my brother, and one of my best frriends."
