Haushinka, chapter 4
We didn't realize the door being opened until we heard a girl scream. It was Mike's wife.
"Oh my God!" She screamed and ran away.
"Katie, wait!" Mike screamed and ran after her.
I just sat there for what seemed like forever. Finally Dad got what happened.
"Sheena, get in here." Dad screamed. I walked in there.
"What?" I asked.
"Sit down!" Dad pointed to a spot on the couch, while pacing back and forth. I sat down.
"What?" I asked again.
"What the fuck were you doing in that closet?!" Dad asked.
"Nothing." I said.
"Yeah, right. Guess who just called." Dad said staring at me.
"Who?" I asked.
"Mike. He said him and Katie are getting a divorce because she saw you and Mike making-out!" Dad glared at me.
"So, why are you screaming at me?" I asked.
"Why am I screaming at you?! Well, lets see. First, you made a couple get divorced. Second, you're a teenager making out with a 34-year old man!" Dad screamed at me.
"So? I'm 17, dad. I'm an adult now, and you didn't have any problem when Tre' and I would kiss!" I jumped off the couch and screamed at him.
"You're ALMOST an adult. Almost. And, yes, I did have a problem with you and Tre'! I knew though, if you were anything like me, that if I told you you could not go out with him, you would do it anyways! Plus, he wasn't married! Mike was married!" Dad screamed at me.
"You know, why am I listening to you? You have no right to scream at me like this! For the last 16 years of my life, you weren't there!" I screamed at him and ran off to my room.
I didn't want to be in my room alone so I went into Joey's. He could always cheer me up. I walked into his room to find him sitting at his desk working on something. I laid down on his bed and sighed.
"What's wrong?" He asked me, turning around.
"Has Dad always been a jerk?" I asked him.
"Sadly, yes. I really don't know what Mom see's in him." He said. "What happened that made you realize that?" He asked me.
"Okay, so I was in the closet making-out with Mike-" I said.
"Wait, you were making-out with Mike?! Isn't he married?! Aren't you going out with Tre'?" He asked me.
"He was, and yes. Now, anyways, I was in the closet, making-out with Mike, when his wife opened the door and found us-" I got interrupted.
"Oh freak, she walked in?! Whoa, okay, then what happened?" Joey said hunching over in his chair.
"Well she went screaming out, and Mike chased after her. Now they are getting a divorce, and Dad was screaming at me about how I was only 17, and how I made a couple get divorced and how I shouldn't be making-out with 34-year old guys." I said.
"Whoa, okay, then what happened?" Joey asked.
"I told him that he didn't have a problem with me and Tre' and that he wasn't there for the last 16 years of my life so he couldn't scream at me like that." I said looking at Joey.
"Alright! Nice!" He said giving me a high-five. "So, do you think Dad will tell Tre'?" Joey asked me.
"Oh fuck!" I hopped off the bed and ran downstairs.
This whole time, I didn't think about that. I reached Dad who was sitting on the couch, watching T. V., looking just like the night Mike left for Las Vegas.
"Are you going to tell Tre'?" I asked Dad softly as I approached him.
"Don't you think he deserves to know?" Dad asked me.
I thought about that for a minute. "No." I said.
"If he doesn't deserve to know, I think you should break up with him" Dad said.
"No." I said.
"But if you think he doesn't deserve to know, you should break up with him. That proves you don't really love him." Dad said.
"But I do love him." I said.
"Then tell him." Dad said.
"No!" I said.
"Look, Sheena, I've been hurt by too many girls just like you. I'm not going to let you hurt one of my best friends like that. You can either tell him or break up with him." Dad said.
At that moment, Tre' walked through the door.
"Hi Billie! Hi baby!" He said to me and picked me up. Dad shot me a look.
"Hey, um, Tre', we need to talk." I said to him when he put me down. We walked outside and sat down.
"You know that Katie and Mike split up, right?" I asked him.
"Yeah." Tre' said.
"Do you know why?" I asked him.
"No." He said looking at me.
"Well, the reason is because Katie caught Mike cheating on her." I said.
"Really? With who?" Tre' asked.
"That's what I need to talk to you about. Tre' it was me." I said. He stayed silent.
"Tre' we didn't do anything big-" I said. He held up his hand for me to stop talking.
"You know that's fine, I really don't need to know. Um, I'm going to go now..." Tre' said and got up.
"No, Tre' please, we just need to talk-" I said and sprung up after him.
"No, we've talked enough!" Tre' said and walked out of the house.
I just stood there in the living-room. Dad looked at me. I walked over to where he was at and sat down. I started to cry.
"Oh my God, what have I done!" I cried, just realizing how much I screwed up when I kissed Mike.
"It's okay, it's okay. He's just hurt right now, don't worry." Dad said, rubbing my head.
Over the next month I didn't see Tre. I was too busy applying to colleges to see him. I really wanted to go to Harvard. I got my letter from Harvard, the same day Tre' wanted to talk to me. I was accepted into the university. I was in my room when he decided to talk.
Tre' walked into my room, and sat on my bed. "We really need to talk." He said.
We went to the park and sat on the swings. "What do we need to talk about?" I asked.
"I want us to get back together." He said looking at me. I was silent.
"Tre', I just got my letter from Harvard and I was accepted, I'm going." I said to him. Then he was silent.
"When are you leaving?" He asked.
"In two weeks." I said. "There's no chance in us getting back together."
"Oh." Was all he said and he walked off. I just sat there.
The two weeks went by fast. The day came when I was hugging Adie, Dad, Joey, Jake, and Mike good-bye. Tre' wasn't there. I loaded up the car and told everyone good-bye once again and just as I was pulling out of the driveway, here came Tre' running, yelling 'STOP! ' I pulled over to see what he wanted.
"What, Tre'?" I asked him as he caught up with the car.
"I... Just... Wanted... To... Give... You... These!" He said, out of breath. He handed me a bouquet of roses.
"Awww, thank you." I said to Tre'.
"Oh and this." He said handing me a piece of paper. I just stared.
"You know, I owe the best years of my life to you and Mike, Tre'." I said to him.
"Um thanks." He said. "Dido, except for the Mike part." He said. I laughed.
"Don't open the note until you get far away from here." He said.
"Okay. Oh, and, Tre'..." I said.
"Yeah." He said.
"I love you." I said with a smile on my face.
"I love you, too." He said returning the smile.
I drove away into the Californian sunset thinking about my life here. How exciting it was. As much problems that had happened, I wouldn't have traded it for anything. When I got far away, I read Tre's note. It said:
'This girl has gone far away, now she's gone. '
