Fight for your Right, chapter 10
Billie was right, after that it was a lot like old times.
Abbie decided to give us a ride home, first dropping off Mike, then Tiff. Since me and Billie and Abbie pretty much lived in the same place I just went to their house and walked across the street.
I ran up the steps to the porch and waved bye to Billie and walked in. Mom was sitting on the couch with some guy.
"Hi May, where have you been?" mom said in a cheery voice.
"Two things: Why would you care, and who's he?" I said pointing to the guy next to her. She immediately glared at me, and the guy stood up.
"My name is Dave," he said holding out a hand.
I took a few steps back and turned away a little, pretending to be scared, "How do I know you?"
"Melissa, this is my boyfriend. I've been seeing him the last few weeks," mom said in a happy voice again.
"What?! You promised you wouldn't replace dad! You've been completely forgetting me so you could see this?!" I asked in amazement. "Forgetting dad?!!!!"
She walked over to me and held my shoulders tight and whispered to me in an angry voice, "For one thing, I'm not forgetting you, your pretty hard to forget." I didn't know if this was good or bad. "And, your dad is gone and dead. Out of the picture, it's time to move on May."
"Get off me!!!" I yelled shoving her away. "So this is your plan, completely forget dad. Oh yeah, hes out of the picture, time to replace him," I mocked in an annoying voice.
"Your mothers right. It is time to move on May," Dave said in a soothing voice, putting a hand on my shoulder.
"Don't touch me! And shut up, your just trying to suck up so you can be with my mom," I yelled running to the door to leave. "And its Melissa to you! Only my family calls me May. Both you and mom! Go enjoy your lives without me and dad!"
Now I was crying, and I was standing in my front yard, wondering where to go. I stood there crying, looking around, then remembered the same thing happened to Billie. I ran across the street and knocked on the door, and didnt stop. Like way back when.
I heard Billie yell 'It's for me' and run to the door. He opened it and his face dropped. "Mel, whats?... Come in!" He said shoving me inside and pushing me back to his room.
"BILLIE THE DOOR!!!!" I heard Ollie yell.
"How do I always forget that?" he said muttering and running back. "Stay here."
I did as I was told, just sat on his bed and put my face in my hands. I hated mom, I knew something was up when she wasnt at home at all. I knew she didn't care about me. All she was worried about was Dave and her precious Erin.
Billie came running back and sat down next to me. I put my head on his shoulder again and cried. "It's mom....and she....Dave....Erin...dad... " I just gave up and looked at him. I sniffled somemore and he smiled a little.
"What are you smilin' about?" I managed to get out.
"It's just before today, you wouldn't have come here," he said still smiling.
I sniffled again, "Yeah I would."
He looked at me confused at first, then remembered what he had done, about his guitar. He nodded a little, "True, well, here. How 'bout, you sleep, then when you wake up, you can explain. I'll go tell mom and Brad to tell your mom if she calls that your not here."
I smiled too. "Thanks." If there was anything I needed, it was sleep so I could forget about what happened.
"Alrighty then. If you need anything, just get me, ok?" he said giving me a hug. I nodded and laid down and tried to fall asleep.
*Billie's POV*
She laid down and I got up to talk to mom. I ran back to the kitchen were she was waiting for something to boil on the stove and holding a glass.
"Hey mom, Mel's gonna stay over a while, is that ok?"
"I thought you didnt like her?" she said taking another drink of water.
"Yeah well, she's my friend again now. And...well...if her mom calls, can you tell her you don't know where she is?"
"Yeah sure, is she asleep?" mom asked getting back to dinner.
"Yep, can she eat here to?" I asked sitting at the table.
"Of course! Anytime!" she said happily. I knew mom liked Mel.
I smiled a little, "Good, I'll tell her."
I decided I wanted to grab my guitar to keep me occupied. I walked in quietly, but she was sitting up on my bed, with her back against the wall.
"Hey I thought you were gonna sleep?" I said crawling on to the bed and sitting next to her. Silent tears were slowly going down her face, and her expression looked completely blank.
"Every time I close my eyes I see him," she muttered, without moving.
I turned so I was facing her, and her gaze was halfway on me, half on nothing really. "So whats wrong?"
She didnt say anything...but I knew she needed to. "Dont make me call Tiff," I said threateningly with a smile.
She smiled a little and finally looked at me. "Moms replacing dad," she struggled to mutter.
*Melissa's POV*
His expression changed and he moved back over to me so he could give me a hug. "Aww Mel, thats horrible," he said quietly, still hugging me.
"I figured," I said sniffling,"you would know how it felt, seeing as the same thing kinda happened to you..."
"Yeah," he said letting go and looking at me. "It'll be ok. I promise."
"No it wont! Shes been gone like every day! She's completely forgetting me and dad! Shes just obsessed with Erin and Dave!" I cried putting my face in my hands and flopping down on the bed so I was laying down. I looked between my fingers and I saw he was smiling a little. "What are you smilin' at..." I muttered without moving my fingers. Why is it that when I'm sad, he always smiles or something?
"You. Your so dramatic, I couldn't help it," he said laughing a little, then laying down beside me. I just peered at him from between my fingers. He tried to poke my eye, but I immediately closed my fingers.
"Ha ha, you missed," I said flatly.
He laughed to, then became serious. "So what are you gonna do? I mean, do ya need my help? Or do you already have a plan."
"Im gonna run away to Russia," I muttered, not moving.
"Thats a pricey plane ticket," he replied laughing.
"I'll walk, there's a bridge in Alaska that goes to Russia."
"Seriously?"
"Yup."
"Well that's interesting," he said sitting up. "So then whats plan B?"
"Mexico."
"Mel..."
"I dont know! I just know I can't stay at mom's!"
He sighed, "You can stay here for a while. We'll figure something out though," he said putting a comforting hand on my shoulder. I heard him get up, and I fell asleep, attempting to forget about Dave.
