Dreamer, chapter 4
Jimmy and I settled in a another alley. I went through my stuff, to realizing my diary wasn't there.
"Jimmy, my diary's gone!" I said, panicking. Funny, since I hadn't written in it in a long time. Hey, it contained memories.
"It can't be. Jesus still isn't here; I'm going to look for him. While I try to find him, I'll look okay?" Jimmy said, walking off.
"Okay," I said. I sat by myself for about 5 minutes before Jesus showed up.
"Is this yours?" Jesus asked, holding my diary.
"Oh my God, thank you!" I said as I jumped up and hugged him. It took him a second, though, for him to hug back.
"Jesus, there you are! Where were you?" Jimmy said, almost appearing out of nowhere.
We broke apart, but still kept our arms around each other's waist. Jimmy smiled at the sight, which made Jesus blush and pull apart.
"Hey, we need to get to L.A. I'm going to go buy some train tickets; you guys stay here," Jimmy said, walking off.
Jesus and I sat down, not really talking much. It was really awkward.
That day we boarded a train to take us to L.A. When we got there, Jimmy started to look for a cheap hotel that we could stay at. We found one that only had two beds, but Jesus gave his up so I wouldn't have to sleep on the floor. After we got settled in, Jesus and I went to the park. Jimmy was asleep, so we didn't want to disturb him. When we got to the park, we just walked a ways before I asked Jesus where he was from.
"I'm from Suburbia," he said with a frown.
"Oh," was all I said.
"Harlie, can I ask you a question?" Jesus asked, a little nervous.
"Sure," I said.
"Why do you hang around me? Why don't you hang around Jimmy? He's more fun than me," Jesus asked nervously.
"Because you are the closest thing I've had to a best friend. Now can I ask you a question?" I asked with a smile.
"Sure," he said with a smile.
"Why are you so nice to me? And why are you so nervous?" I asked.
"I thought you said a question, not two," Jesus said, smiling.
"Okay, two, whatever. Just answer," I said.
"Because you are my best friend, and I don't know," Jesus said.
We walked a little ways before we started talking again.
"I'm sorry about Rion," he said, looking down.
I just nodded. "Maybe we should head back," I said.
We headed back to the hotel to find an awakened Jimmy stretching out on the couch.
"Hey guys, where were you?" Jimmy asked.
"At the park. Hey, I need to talk to you...alone," Jesus said, hinting for me to leave.
"Oh. Okay, I'll go somewhere other than here," I said, backing out of the hotel room. I got out and decided to go to the local 7-11. I wonder what they have to talk about?
***Back at the hotel room***
"What's on your mind?" Jimmy asked Jesus.
"I think I'm in love with Harlie," Jesus said, pacing back and forth.
"Oh, wow, awkward," Jimmy said, watching Jesus go back and forth.
"Well, what do I do? Should I tell her?" Jesus asked.
"No, not until you know if she has feelings back. I'll ask!" Jimmy said excitedly.
"No! It isn't 6th grade anymore, Jimmy. We don't just go around asking people if they like somebody!" Jesus said.
"Relax, relax. I'll just say that it seems that she likes you, and I'll just ask her. As if I suspected it. Then I'll tell you. Do you think that she does?" Jimmy asked.
"I dunno, she said I was the closet thing she has ever had to a best friend, what's that supposed to mean?" Jesus asked, now sweating.
"She might. I'll ask her when it's just us," Jimmy said.
Jesus nodded, and both went out to find Harlie.
***At 7-11***
I saw Jimmy and Jesus walk in, and I walked over to greet them. "So you guys finished?" I asked, with my slurpee in hand.
"Yeah, hey wanna go to the park?" Jimmy asked me.
"Um, sure," I said.
We walked to the local park and started goofing off on the playground. Jesus had to go use the restroom, so it was just Jimmy and me.
"Hey, Harlie, I have to ask you something. It's something I suspected, but maybe I just suck at suspecting, but still answer the question. Do you like Jesus?" Jimmy asked me.
I was shocked. "You know, I've been asking myself that same question," I said.
He looked shocked. "So, do you?" he asked.
"I dunno...I guess," I said.
Jesus appeared, and that ended the conversation. Jesus looked up from the ground he was staring at and smiled at me. I turned my head to Jimmy.
"I do," I said to him.
