Hawthorne Heights (A Green Day Horror Story), chapter 13

The doctor came out of the E.R. "We are having trouble trying to get Mr. Armstrong to breathe. He needs to have a serious operation, and a blood transfusion. Both of his lungs are crushed. We are going to have to put a chest tube in him, but even with the chest tube he will still have trouble breathing, but it won't be as bad. I'm sorry but there is nothing else we can do," The doctor said.

"Actually there is something we can do but I don't think they would want us to do it," Another doctor said.

"What is it?" Mike asked.

"Well we can either insert the chest tube and he will have trouble breathing for the rest of his life or we can... How do I say this? Let mr. Armstrong go so he won't have to live in pain," The doctor said.

"You mean..." Mike started.

"It's your decision. What would you like to do? We will give you a few minutes to think about it," The doctor said.

Mike and Tre sat down.

"What are we going to do. I don't want to see Billie go, but I don't want him to have trouble breathing. Oh god, what do I do?" Mike said in tears.

"I don't want him to go either. I love him. He's our best friend. We can't go on with our career without him," Tre said also in tears.

"I remember when I first met Billie, and from then I knew he was my best friend," Mike said.

FLASHBACK: 1982

Mike was in line getting lunch. He was the new kid in school and he didn't know anybody. He decided to sit by himself. He saw a kid with Brown hair also sitting by himself writing in a notebook. Mike decided to go over to him and ask if he could sit with him. He walked over to him. "Hey. I'm Mike. I'm new here. Do you mind if I sit with you?" Mike asked him.

"No. Go ahead. My names Billie," The kid said.

"It's nice to meet you. What are you writing?" Mike asked him.

"Oh. A song. I want to play heavy metal guitar," Billie said.

"Thats cool. I would like to play guitar too," Mike said.

"I can show you how if you want. I've been playing since I was 8," Billie said.

"That would be cool," Mike said.

Since that day Billie and Mike hung out everyday after school. When they were in 10th grade they decided to form a band. They called there band Sweet Children. Mike was so glad he asked to sit with Billie that day.

END FLASHBACK

"I knew from that day on Billie was my best friend. If I was in his condition I know Billie would choose for me to through with the operation. That's why I made up my decision. I want Billie to live. I will take care of him if he needs anything because thats what best friends do," Mike said standing up.

The doctor came back. "Well, what do you want to do?" He asked.

"Billie is my best friend. I know if I was in his situation he would let me live. That's why I have decided to let Billie live. He's my best friend. I don't want to lose him," Mike said.

"Very well. We'll get Mr. Armstrong ready for surgery," The doctor said. He went back into the E.R.

"That was a good decision you made. I'm sure Billie will pull through," Tre said.

6 Hours Later

The doctor came out of the O.R. "We'll the surgery was a success. Billie is in recovery now. He will be moved to a room in about an hour. He should wake up in a few hours," The doctor said.

"Ok. Thank you," Mike said. They both sat down and waited until they were allowed to see Billie. Mike hoped everything was ok.
