Living life to the full (in my own private suicide), chapter 5

recap-
My social worker, Marion, had tried talking to me but I just told her to leave me alone. My grades at school were dropping and I had no friends. I confined myself to my room and played my guitar and listened to Green Day all the time. Little did I know, that soon my life was going to change.
-end recap-

There was a soft knock at my door.
"Go away Charlie, I don't want anything to eat," I shouted not looking up from my guitar which I was playing along to 'Basket Case.'
My door opened.
"Not bad," said a familiar voice
I looked up and my eyes widened
"Huh? Why are you here?" I asked stunned, staring at Billie Joe.
"Came to see how you were," he said shrugging.
I raised my eyebrows.
"Yeah, whatever, now tell me the real reason you're here," I said.
"Fine I give," he said. "Adie got pregnant again."
"Yeah, I know," I mumbled. "Sorry 'bout that."
"Its Ok, anyway, we were kinda looking forward to having another kid around the house so we're going to adopt," he told me.
"Really? That's great, I can tell you everything about everyone in here, considering I've been here longest," I said.
"No need, we're pretty sure who we're gonna go with," he said.
"Who? Is it one of the little ones? I hope you didn't choose Marco, he likes to bite stuff."
"No, pack your stuff, your going to come stay with me and Adie for a week or two," he grinned.
I stared.
"Y-you're really serious?" I stammered.
"Seriously serious," said Billie Joe putting on a serious face.
(Author's note: wow I said serious a lot just then! Seriously!)
I didn't know what to say, I was speechless.
"Come and meet Adie, she's downstairs talking to Carly... Carla? Was it?"
"Carla," I mumbled.
"Yeah sure," he shrugged grinning. "Come on."
I followed Billie Joe out of my room and downstairs. I saw Carla talking to a short, pretty woman with dreadlocks.
She saw me and smiled.
"You must be Rebel," she said giving me a hug. "I'm Adrienne, but please call me Adie."
"Hi," I smiled at her.
I was kinda shy. I'd always admired Adrienne she was so talented.
"Rebel, can I have a word in my office for a second?" asked Carla.
"Yeah... "
I followed Carla into her office and sat down.
Carla looked at me seriously. I couldn't help noticing how bushy her hair looked.
"Love the hair Carla."
She ignored me.
"Now Rebel," she said sitting down. "Mr. & Mrs. Armstrong are considering adopting you."
"Yeah, Billie said," I mumbled looking down.
"I've decided to let you go and stay with them for two weeks to see how you get on, half way through Marion will be coming for a visit."
"Oh joy, I can barely contain my excitement at the prospect of seeing Marion!" I squealed sarcastically.
"Anyway, you're going to be leaving tomorrow morning, we've informed your school that you will be absent but you will have to copy up missed work," Carla informed me.
"Tomorrow?" I asked excitedly.
"Yes, so you better go and pack some things," said Carla smiling.
"Kay, thanks Carla," I grinned.
I rushed out her office straight into Billie Joe.
"Sorry," I said excitedly.
"That's Ok," he grinned.
Billie, Adie and I talked for a bit before Billie asked the question I'd been dreading.
"So where's Roy?"
My face fell.
"He's gone... "
Billie frowned.
"Gone where?" he asked.
"The half way house," I mumbled.
"Oh, sorry."
"Its ok," I replied. "You didn't know."
10 minutes later Billie and Adie left. I rushed upstairs to get my stuff ready but Jennie was at the top of the stairs and she waylaid me.
"What do you want?"
"Well, looks like Rebel is, like, getting out of here with, like, a rock star."
"Point being?" I sighed.
"I'm gonna like miss you," she smirked. "I don't want you to like forget me so I'm gonna give you like something to like remember me by."
Before I could ask what the hell she was on about she pushed me.
I felt myself falling down the stairs backwards, backwards, falling until I came to a halt with a loud thump.
I couldn't move. I faintly heard Carla shouting something. I had an excruciating pain in my right arm and my left ankle was hurting.
I fought back the tears as I tried to come to terms with what had just happened. I felt myself slip in and out of consciousness, I was only vaguely aware when I felt myself being lifted onto a stretcher but after that my mind went blank.

My eyes snapped open.
"What the hell?" I moaned.
"Rebel?"
I turned my head and saw Adrienne standing over me looking concerned.
"Uh, hi um could you please tell me what's going on?" I asked.
"You were knocked down the stairs, you've broken your arm and badly sprained your ankle, you had like really bad concussion which is why you fainted, you've been out for about 18 hours honey," she told me. "Plus you've got carpet burns all up your arms and several bruises."
"Oh... "
"Are you ok sweetie?" she asked.
"I think so," I replied.
"That's good because as soon as you get out of here, you're coming home with us," said a very familiar voice.
Billie Joe had just come in.
"By the way, expect to be over fed, Adie has her mind set on fattening you up," he added grinning.
I smiled.
"When am I getting out of here?" I asked.
"I 'unno," shrugged Billie.
"Helpful, real helpful," sighed Adie.
It turned out that I was good to go whenever I wanted. Of course I wanted out straight away, but I had to use crutches because of my ankle and because I'd broken my arm I could only use one crutch.
That was kind of difficult, but Adie helped me get all my things together back at the orphanage and soon enough I was sitting in the back of a black BMW speeding towards the Armstrong home.
The car drew up outside an enormous (and I mean ENORMOUS) house.
"Wow," I muttered as Billie and Adie got out.
I struggled to get myself out the car quickly but it was made difficult by the fact that I couldn't use my right arm or my left leg. Billie Joe came to my rescue and helped me out.
"Thanks," I said
"No problem," he replied.
"Billie get the bags, Rebel come with me I'll show you around," said Adie beckoning to me. "By the way Tré is here babysitting."
"You let Tré baby sit?"
"No, not me," said Adie and pointed at Billie who was getting my stuff. "Him."
"Oh, I see."
Adie helped me up to the front door and opened it.
"Guys? We're home!" shouted Adie.
Tré came running through to the hall but stopped when he saw me.
"Shit, someone got you good," he said.
"Gee thanks," I muttered.
"Yeah, what exactly happened?" he asked
"Got pushed down the stairs," I mumbled balancing myself on my crutch more securely.
Tré opened his mouth to speak again when a small boy with blonde hair ran towards Adie.
"Mommy!" said Jakob hugging Adie
Billie Joe appeared behind us in the doorway carrying my bag and guitar.
I looked up at him giving him a 'You-dyed-your-nine-year-old-son's hair?' kind of look.
He just shrugged and grinned.
Adie showed me round the rest of the house well, the downstairs, I didn't want to try and attempt to get up the stairs on my crutch.
Then it was time for me to meet Joey and Jakob. Yes, I was terrified.
"Rebel, Jakob, Jakob, Rebel, Joey, Rebel, Rebel, Joey," said Billie pointing at us, "There introductions over I'm hungry, anyone want lunch?"
Adie shook her head laughing.
"You guys get to know each other," she said, "Billie Joe, Tré come on, help with lunch."
Billie Joe shrugged and went into the kitchen. Tré pouted but Adrienne glared at him and he sighed and followed her through.
I watched them leave and then looked at Joey and Jakob who were staring at me intently.
"Uh... hi," I said brightly.
"Are you going to be our new sister?" asked Jakob, cocking his head to one side.
"Um, maybe," I replied.
"Are you going to live with us like all the time?" asked Jakob.
"Maybe... "
"Do you always say maybe?"
"Maybe," I grinned, wobbling a little.
"Are you O.K? Maybe you should sit down or something, it looks kinda hard to balance."
I turned to Joey who was eyeing my crutch nervously.
"Yeah, thanks."
I followed Joey and Jakob through to the living room and sat down.
"Can I sign your cast?" asked Jakob.
"Yeah, sure," I shrugged.
Jakob grinned, grabbed a pen and came over to me. He wrote 'FROM JAKOB' in huge letters.
"Thanks Jakob," I said.
"S'kay!"
After that, things got a bit more relaxed; I got to know Joey and Jakob pretty well before we were called for lunch.
I managed to get up and with help from Joey I got into the kitchen and sat down.
"Here you go," said Adie putting a plate with sandwiches in the middle of the table.
I was a bit unsure whether I should just help myself or not so I looked at what everyone else was doing. They just grabbed. I shrugged and picked up a sandwich. I listened in on everyone's conversations, not actually talking myself. Billie and Tré were talking about something to do with what sounded like... goats? And Joey, Jakob and Adrienne were talking about the new computer game Joey had just got or something like that.
I just sat there quietly and nibbled on my sandwich.
I finished my sandwich and watched everyone talking to each other. I smiled to myself. Things were going to get better.
