The Last Day, chapter 1

Bloodshot deadbeat and lack of sleep
Making your mascara bleed
Tears down your face
Leaving traces of my mistakes
When I say
If I promise to go to church on Sunday
Will you go with me on Friday night...

A man by the name of Billie Joe Armstrong clumsily walked through the front door.

Billie Joe was in the rock band Green Day with his two friends, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool. Unfortunately, the bands popularity had been steadily going downhill. Billie Joe was having problems at home and that had caused him to have a sour attitude towards his family and his friends. Recently, Billie Joe stopped showing for band practice and Mike and Tre were so fed up, they stopped showing too.

All these thoughts ran through Billie Joe's head as he shed his coat, kicked off his shoes, and sat down in a living room chair. Billie rubbed his temples with his pointer fingers and sighed. "What a day," Billie moaned.

Billie Joe's wife, Adrienne Armstrong, rolled her brown eyes and shook her head. She stood up from the couch she was sitting on and walked to the front door. She hung up her husband's coat and moved his shoes out of the way. "What's wrong Billie? You haven't been drinking have you?" Adrienne asked, her voice worried. She always hated it when Billie Joe came home drunk. He scared her. She didn't want a repeat of what had happened last time.

"What the fuck do you think I am woman, a total waste?" Billie Joe growled. Adrienne could tell he was beginning to get mad, so she changed the subject.

"Joey learned how to count to ten today in kindergarten," Adrienne said. She was referring to their son, Joseph Marciano Armstrong. Adrienne smiled. She remembered how Joey had counted to ten for her when she picked him up from school.

"Jesus woman, do you ever shut up," Billie Joe said, raising his voice.

"Billie Joe," Adrienne said, feeling confident. "I thought you might want to know what your son was doing in school. It might interest you."

"Well is doesn't," Billie Joe said, slurring his words. He was most definetly drunk. Billie Joe stood up and stretched. "God," he said as he ran his fingers through his messy black hair. "I'm so tired. Did you make me food?" he asked Adrienne.

Adrienne swallowed nervously. "Well, umm, Billie, I just thought you would get something to eat while you were out doing... " her voice trailed off.

Billie Joe gave Adrienne a cold stare. "What Adrienne. While I was out doing what?" Billie Joe stepped up to Adrienne and looked her in the eyes.

Adrienne swallowed again. She felt hot tears about the escape her eyes. "Drinking. That's what you were doing. That's all you ever do isn't it? While I'm at home taking care of our son." Adrienne was going to say more, but she was cut short. Billie Joe raised his hand and quickly slapped her across the face.

Her neck spun sharply to the right and her cheek stung. She lost her balance and fell to the floor.

"It's not my fucking problem if I drink or not, Adrienne. It's my life and I can do whatever the fuck I want," Billie Joe yelled.

Adrienne swallowed and brought her hand to her cheek. She could feel a large lump and knew there was going to be a bruise. Using the table for support, she stood up. This is exactly what happened last time. Her marriage to this monster had blown up in her face.

Before she could stop them, hot tears fell down her face making her mascara bleed. Soon, small black lines could be seen on her face.

Suddenly, Billie Joe felt extremely guilty. He hated to see Adrienne cry, but it was his fault she was crying in the first place. He walked forward until he was right in front of her.

Adrienne could smell the alcohol on his breath and see his glazed over eyes. She turned her head and waited for the blow to come, but it never did. When she felt it was safe, she opened her eyes and looked into Billie Joe's foggy green ones.

Billie Joe mouthed the words, "I'm sorry." He tried to kiss her, but Adrienne pulled back.

"No Billie Joe," she said. "I can't do this anymore. I can't have you coming home drunk every night, you hitting me, then you feeling sorry. It just can't work that way. No matter how hard you want it to, it can't."

"Adie baby," Billie Joe said. "I love you."

Adrienne laughed coldly. "Yeah right," she said. "You say that, but when do you ever mean it?"

"I do mean it," Billie said, trying to get Adrienne to believe him. "I really do."

"Well you sure do have a hell of a way showing it." Adrienne said.
He wished Adie would believe him. "Fine," Billie Joe said. "Just fucking fine." Billie Joe walked over to the door and slammed it as he left once again.

Again, Adrienne felt hot tears escaping from her eyes. Her legs gave in and she fell to the floor, crying her eyes out.

If you live with me, I'll die for you and this compromise...
