A Change of life. A Change of Heart., chapter 3

-recap-
"Who is he?" persisted Adrienne.
I took a deep breath.
"His name is Michael, Michael Pritchard... "
-end recap-

"Mike?" asked Billie stunned, "Wait... is your mom called Jo Collins?"
I nodded.
"I knew there was something familiar about you! You look just like her!" said Billie, "Except your eyes, you've got... "
"My dad's eyes... "
"Yeah."
"Billie go ring Mike, now!" ordered Adie.
Billie picked up the phone and left.
Adrienne turned to me.
"Have you got a cell phone?" she asked.
I nodded and pulled it out my pocket.
"Ring your grandparents; let me have a word with them."
I nodded and dialled the number and passed it to Adrienne.
"Hello yes, is this Amber's grandfather?"
I breathed a sigh of relief; Granddad would be sure to listen to Adie.
After a few minutes of talking she handed the phone back to me.
"You're Grandfather is on his way," she said.
"Thank you," I smiled.
"No worries, you hungry?" she asked.
"Not really, I wouldn't mind a drink though... "
"Sure come on."
I followed her through to the kitchen.
"Your house is huge," I stated.
Adrienne smiled and passed me a glass of juice.
"Thanks."
I drank my drink and Billie appeared in the kitchen.
"Have you spoken to Mike?" asked Adie.
"Yeah, he's coming over," replied Billie.
Then I remembered.
"Where's all my stuff?" I asked.
By stuff I meant my guitar, it was the only thing I was worried about.
"Its all in the living room," said Billie, "I like your guitar, it's just like Blue."
"Thanks."
10 minutes later there was a knock on the front door.
Adie went to answer it. I heard some frantic talking in the hall and I stared as Mike Dirnt came running into the kitchen.
"Bill, where is she?" he asked not seeing me.
Billie pointed at me. Mike spun round and saw me. His eyes widened and he swooped down and hugged me.
I was a bit shocked.
"I had no idea," he stammered letting go of me. "If I'd known, I would never have left, Jo never said, I'm so sorry."
I didn't know what to say.
There was another knock at the door.
A minute later Grandma and Granddad came into the kitchen.
"Amber! How dare you run away like that! Come home this instant!" shouted Grandma.
"Joan, leave the poor girl alone she's had quite a shock," said Granddad walking over to me and giving me a hug. "Hello Amber, you gave your old Granddad quite a scare."
"Sorry granddad," I mumbled.
"Sorry? SORRY?" screeched Grandma.
"Joan, calm down dear," sighed Granddad
"I can't be doing with this Stanley!" she cried.
"Here, take the car and go home," said Granddad passing her the car keys.
She took them and hurried away.
Billie, Mike and Adrienne were looking a bit confused.
"I apologise for my wife," said Granddad. "She's a little stressed at the moment."
"Its fine," said Adie, "We'll leave you three to sort things out, come on Billie."
She and Billie left the kitchen. An awkward silence fell in the room.
"So, Michael, you're our Amber's father," said granddad, "Tell me, did you know that our Jo was pregnant when you left?"
"No," Mike shook his head. "She never said a thing, if I'd known I never would have left!"
"I see. I assume you'd like to get to know your daughter before she grows up completely?"
"Yeah, of course," Mike said. "That is if she wants to see me?"
I looked at the floor not knowing what to say.
"Amber," said granddad. "You just take your time love, no one is going to force you to do anything."
"I-I always wanted a dad when I was little, I always asked mom, why I didn't have one, she just told me that he was away working on his band..." I stuttered glancing up at Mike.
He looked really ashamed.
"But... if it's not too late... I still want a dad... " I said.
Mike's eyes lit up and he smiled.
"Right then, that's sorted!" said granddad, "But first, I need to ring your mother Amber, just to make sure it's O.K with her."
"I better speak to her," said Mike, "Do you have her number?"
I told him our home number and he hurried off to ring her.
"Are you alright Amber?" asked Granddad.
"My dad is Mike Dirnt, THE MIKE DIRNT!" I gasped.
"'The Mike Dirnt?' You say his name like it's a title and I thought his last name was Pritchard?"
"Granddad, he's the bass player for my favourite band! He's like... a major celebrity!" I exclaimed.
Granddad frowned.
"That band Green Bay you're always going on about?"
"Green Day!"
"Well I never," sighed Granddad.
I smiled and felt tears well up in my eyes.
"I found my dad, Granddad!" I whispered smiling.
"Yes you did pet, yes you did," chuckled granddad ruffling my hair.
Mike came back in carrying the phone.
"Your Mom wants a word," he said handing the phone to me.
"Hello?"
"Amber, I'm sorry I never told you about your dad," she sobbed down the phone.
"Mom, stop crying, it's O.K!" I insisted.
"I've talked to Mike and we've decided that you're going to stay with him for a couple of weeks, just so you get to know him, O.K?" she snuffled.
"Really? That would be fantastic!" I exclaimed.
"O.K well I better go now, I have to go to work, I love you and stay safe, bye darling," sighed mom.
"Bye mom."
I hung up and put the phone down.
"Well?" asked granddad.
"I'm going with... with... " I started a smile coming over my face. "I'm going with Dad."
