Wake me up, When December Ends..., chapter 1

She ran into her room crying. It was the 6th December 2002 and her parents had just told, her and her older brother, Charlie, that their 29-year-old sister, Sophie, had been involved in a car accident and had died on the way to hospital.
She cried until she couldn't cry anymore, staring at the picture of her and Sophie, which had been taken just at her 8th birthday party, at the start of the year.
"I'll miss you Sophie," she mumbled into her pillow, before falling asleep.

She scuffed her shoes in the gravel and walked through the school gates.
The bell had gone at least 15 minutes ago but she didn't care. She walked into the cloakrooms and discarded her bag and coat and then she walked into the classroom. Her teacher, Miss Smith, looked at her sympathetically. Her parents had called the school to inform them of the tragedy.
"Good Morning, Linn."
Linn merely nodded and sat in her desk beside her best friend, Sara Wilkes.
Sara looked at her friend with concerned eyes. It wasn't like Linn to be late for school.
'I'll ask her at break time,' thought Sara and with that she got out her English book and paid attention to their lessons.

I heard the bell ring. As soon as Miss Smith had dismissed us I shot out of the classroom into the playground.
I started crying, I looked round for Charlie but he was playing football with his friends.
"Hi Linn."
Sara had walked up behind me.
"What's wrong?"
I shook my head.
"I know something's up," she said poking me, "Come on, you can tell me."
"You know, S-Sophie?" I stammered.
"Your sister? Yeah," nodded Sara
"She died," I cried.
Sara hugged me and told me that everything would be alright, but I couldn't stop crying. Eventually my parents had to come and collect me.
The next day when I got to school, everyone seemed to know. I looked at Sara.
"Did you tell anyone?"
"I told Eve," she whispered, "Sorry, I didn't mean it, it just slipped out."
I sighed and got on with my work.

Things never were the same with Sara; eventually she started to hang around with Eve and the popular kids. I was left on my own, with hardly any friends. I hoped things would get better, but they didn't, they got worse.

~2 ½ years later~
~Her P.O.V~

Oh joy, the first day of senior school. God I hated this uniform. An itchy grey blazer, blue jumper, blue blouse, grey tie and to top it all off, what can only be described as a revolting blue tartan kilt.
'I'm not going to like this school,' I thought to myself.
An old woman with short grey hair was waiting by the door to 'welcome' all the year sevens.
"Good morning," she said to me in a high voice, "I am Mrs. Daniels, I am music teacher here at St. Christopher's school for girls, and what is your name?"
"Linn Turner," I replied.
"Well Linn, I hope you enjoy your time here, if you would like to please go straight into the dining hall, Mrs Malloy, the deputy head, is greeting all new comers."
"O.K thanks," I mumbled.
I walked past her through the doors. I decided I disliked her strongly, her and her disgusting, pale pink lipstick and high squeaky voice. I went into the dining hall and sat on a stool, waiting until Mrs Malloy arrived.
'I'm not going to like this school,' I thought again.
