The Chronicles of Victoria Green, chapter 1

Victoria Green (or Vicky to some) loved Green Day, the musical trio from East Bay, California, consisting of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and TrĂˆ Cool, and everyone who knew her knew it too! She had always loved music ever since she was young, but ever since she had learned about Green Day she had been listening to it non-stop! Some might say she was addicted to Green Day! Let's put it this way, nothing could come between her and the guys from Green Day!

It was late on a Monday evening, when Vicky was up in her room playing her Green Day music. Her parents were both out and this gave her a great opportunity to play her music, since her parents had very strict rules about playing her music in the house. They didn't mind that she liked Green Day, or that her whole bedroom was tiled with posters of the singers, but they didn't like it when she had her music on full blast.

It was always, 'Vicky, dear, you're going to wake up the neighbours!' Or, 'Stop that racket, or I'll throw that radio out the window!' Vicky couldn't wait until she was old enough to move out of her parent's house and get her own, then she could play her music for as long and as loud as she wanted!

Vicky was so wrapped up in her music; she didn't even notice her bedroom door open. It was her older brother, Billy.
"Hey, Vicky! Turn it down!" he cried.
Vicky pretended that she didn't hear him. She was always arguing with her brother, and loved getting her own back on him!
"Vicky! Mum and Dad are going to be home soon, and I don't want to be the one who gets in trouble for this!" Billy shouted over the loud music.

Vicky still ignored him. Billy was getting really annoyed with his sister. He loved music too, but he thought his sister was a bit too obsessed! He ran to the wall and pulled out the plug on the radio. Vicky shot him a death glare.
"What did you do that for?" Vicky cried.
"I was trying to talk to you!" said Billy, "Mum and Dad are coming home and if you're playing your music this loud they'll hear it from five streets away!"
Vicky frowned and carefully took her CD out of her radio. She put it back on the shelf, with her collection. Billy shook his head and left the room. Vicky stuck her tongue out after him. He always ruined her fun!

The next day, Vicky didn't want to get out of bed. It was another school day and she had many end-of-year tests coming up, which meant she had to do a lot of revision. There were so many more important things she could have been doing, like listening to Green Day! After her shower, she put on her uniform and then brushed her long, black hair in front of the mirror. She tied it up in a ponytail and then gathered up all her books. She still had some time before she had to leave, so she went downstairs. Her father had already left for work, her mother was feeding the cat and Billy was eating toast at the kitchen table. Vicky grabbed some toast herself and sat down.
"Good morning, Vicky," said her mother.
"Mmm," Vicky mumbled through a mouthful of toast.
"You're having another test today, aren't you?" asked her mother.
"Yeah... German," groaned Vicky. She hated German, it was so difficult!
Suddenly, they heard a knock at the door.
"Oh, there's Kayleigh!" said Vicky, swallowing the last bit of toast, "Bye, mum!"
Vicky grabbed her books and ran to the door.

"Hi, Kayleigh!" Vicky smiled at the girl who was standing in the doorway.
"Hey, Vicky!" The girl smiled back, she had brown hair that was feathered past the shoulders and green eyes, like Vicky's, "Ready for the German test today?"
"Yeah! I actually revised...a bit, well...okay, so I didn't revise. But I don't care about my German grades. German isn't going to help me in my future career!" said Vicky, as she closed the door and walked with Kayleigh down to the garden gate.
Kayleigh laughed, "You're so funny! I revised all last night. I think I've got it all down in my head!"
"Yippee for you," said Vicky, unenthusiastically.
Vicky sometimes felt overshadowed by Kayleigh. She was her best friend, but she was always very organised and always got high grades. Vicky thought that she needed to lighten up a bit and have some fun! Kayleigh was also a fan of Green Day, but Vicky out-matched her by far!

As they were nearing the school gates, Kayleigh suddenly remembered something.
"Oh, yeah! I forgot I wanted to tell you this!" she cried excitedly.
"What is it? You got another award in Debating club?" asked Vicky.
"No!" Kayleigh laughed, "I got some tickets to a concert on Friday!"
"Concert? Who..." Vicky started to say.
A grin came upon Kayleigh's face, "You're not going to believe it!"
"What?" cried Vicky, impatiently.
"It's Green Day concert!" she cried.
Vicky's mouth fell open, a concert that she didn't know about?
"How did you find out about it?" Vicky asked.
"A leaflet came through the door the other week! My mum booked us three tickets just last night!"
Vicky frowned. Her parents didn't allow leaflets and junk mail through their letterbox, so of course she wouldn't know about it! Vicky felt a wave of jealousy. Then she realised something.
"Three tickets?" she asked.
Kayleigh only lived with her mother, after her parents divorced and she had no brothers or sisters. So that'd be one ticket for Kayleigh, one for her mum and one for...
"Yeah! My mum said I could bring a friend along, and I was wondering if you'd like to come?"
Vicky's face livened up. She threw her arms around Kayleigh.
"I would love to! Thanks, Kay!" Vicky squealed.
"I knew you'd be thrilled!" Kayleigh grinned.

Vicky was daydreaming about the concert all day. Her parents were out when she got home from school, so she couldn't tell them about the concert. The next morning was Wednesday. On Wednesday's, her father went to work early as normal and her mother went to her aerobics class, so they had a babysitter. Vicky hated the babysitter; she was old and smelled of rotten fish. She didn't even see why they needed a babysitter in the mornings, but it was better than being stuck alone with Billy. Her mother insisted on having the babysitter, because she was very protective over her children. So, Vicky couldn't talk to her parents about the concert until after school. Vicky headed to school with Kayleigh, as usual.
"Oh, we're getting our German test results back today!" said Kayleigh, "I'm so worried!"
"Don't be worried, Kay," said Vicky, "It's not that big of a deal. It's just German."
"Yeah, but I want to get good test results because my mum says if I don't she won't take me to the concert!"
"I'm sure you did fine," said Vicky, "That's a lot more than I can say for me. I bet I got zero!"

"Five out of forty marks!" cried Vicky, as she studied her test paper, "That's better than I thought! What'd you get, Kay?"
"Thirty eight!" she cried happily, "I just lost marks for spelling!"
"Well done!" Vicky praised her friend.
"I can't wait to show mum!" cried Kayleigh.

So, they walked home together after school and Vicky came in to find her mum waiting for her.
"So, how'd the test go?" she asked.
"I'll tell you in a sec! There's just something I wanna tell you!" Vicky cried.
"What is it?" asked her mum.
"There's a Green Day concert on Friday and Kayleigh's mum got three tickets! Kayleigh wants to know if I could go with them?" Vicky said, hurriedly.
"A concert?" asked her mum.
"It's Green Day!" cried Vicky, "Please, please can I go?"
"Okay, I'll think about it." Smiled her mum.
Vicky cheered, when her mum gave her that smile it meant a yes!
"Okay, now let's see your test results," said her mum.

Vicky fumbled around in her pocket for the test paper, she pulled it out and it was all crumpled.
"Okay. Here it is," waid Vicky, pushing it into her mum's hands.
She turned to quickly go up the stairs, when she heard her mum shout, "Five?"
"Uhh... yeah," said Vicky, frozen half way up the stairs.
"You said you studied!" cried her mum.
"Well, uhh...you see, I did...kinda," Vicky stammered.

Her mother just stood there, holding the test paper in her hand, "Vicky, this is becoming very serious. If you don't study, your grades are going to fall and you won't get a good job when you leave school!"
Vicky didn't speak.
"I'm afraid you will not be going to that concert on Friday. You're going to stay in your room and study!"
Vicky felt like she had just been punched in the stomach, "What?"
"You heard me!" said her mother, sternly, "You can't go to that concert!"

Victoria groaned. "Grrreat!" she said to herself sarcastically. She called up Kayleigh to tell her the worse news of her life.

"Kayleigh..."

"Yeah?"

"My mum won't let me go to the Green Day concert because of my grade on the German test,"

"What?!?!?! But you have to go! I don't have anyone else to go with, Vicky!"

"Well, I can't."

Victoria was about to click the red button on her cellphone and hang up when she heard the faint noise of Kayleigh talking through the phone again. "Vicky," she whispered, "Why don't you just, like, sneak out?" Kayleigh whispered as of a big tattle-tale was right next to her while she spoke.
"What?" Vicky asked, surprised at Kayleigh's attitude, because, no offense to her friend, but Kayleigh got straight A's and never did anything wrong, or, ever suggested anyone else to anything wrong.
"Yes. I said it. Why don't you sneak out?" Kayleigh asked again, sounding a bit un-patient.
"Kay, I can't afford for my mum to get mad at me again. She'll kill me if she found out that I disobeyed her," Vicky told her bestfriend, although considering her sneaky idea.
"C'mon, Vicky. Think about it. Green Day went to England once for a tour. Once. We're lucky for them to come here again. In fact, I don't think they'll ever consider going to England ever again!" Kayleigh told her, hoping to persuade her to do the dirty deed Kayleigh thought up.
"Fine. But don't tell anyone! Or at least, you better not because it was your idea!" Vicky warned Kayleigh.

It was Wednesday, and the concert was a thrilling topic for Vicky and Kayleigh to talk about the rest of the time on the phone.

Vicky layed back on her bed and smiled. Until, of course, she heard her mother's faint foot steps walking up their baige carpet stair case. She immediatley changed her grin to a sad frown, hoping she didn't show a hint of happiness in the process. Her mother walked up to her room, luckily thinking Vicky had been frowning the whole time. "Hi, mum," Vicky said, faking a very sad tone of voice.
"Hey. I just wanted to tell you that Billy's soccer game is at 7:30 sharp, so get ready. We have 20 minutes to get ready and be there," her mother said fiercly, still mad about Vicky's grade.

Great. I hate my big, stupid, 15-year-old brother's soccer games! Vicky thought. She went into her own personal small bathroom she had in her room. She took a green scrunchie and tied her long black hair into a ponytail. She looked for her Green Day purse and made sure all her money and stuff was in there. The weird thing was, Victoria had 15 pounds in her purse. Now, she only had 5. As for American readers, pounds is a British term for money. "What??? Oh, I'm going to kill Billy if I find out that he is stealing my pounds again!" she told herself, racing down the stairs, fiercly turing right in her kitchen to find her mother getting her purse. "Mum! Who stole my pounds?!?!" she practically yelled at her mother, her green eyes wide and fierce.
"Honey, sorry, but I had to take some. Your score on that German test was the worse you've got since you were a little babe!" her mother told her, actually sounding a bit proud of herself.
"Ughhh!" Vicky yelled, staring up at the sky. She raced back up stairs to her room. Laying on her bed, she looked at all her Green Day posters and sighed. She thought herself to sleep after a while.

Her dream was great. She was dreaming about her and Kayleigh, backstage at the Green Day concert, getting autographs from the guys. She was just to the part where Billie Joe was signing one of those pictures they use to sign and give to people, when her mother shook her fiercly, waking her up out of her lovely dream. "Get up! We're late for your brother's soccer game!" her mother screamed, racing down the stairs, leaving Vicky to get her purse and catch up to her mother. She grabbed her purse of it's original place, on her bed. She raced down stairs, out the door, to the drive-way and jumped in her mum's blue SUV. Her dad couldn't go to the game, since he was working late at Best Buy, the computer shop he worked at. Her mother drove very quickly, and Vicky was hoping they wouldn't get caught by a bobby while they swung around the sharp corners on the streets.

For American readers, in England, a bobby is a term for "cop". They arrived at Maple Bridge highschool, Billy's, Vicky's brother, school. Her mum fiercly looked for a parking space and immediatly swung in one and jumped out of their car, denting the gray Audi next to them (by the way, an Audi is a type of car, appearing in both England and America). "Uhh...mum...?" Vicky was about to tell her mother that, she didn't just dent any car, she dent Kayleigh's mother's car. But Vicky's mum was already racing to the soccer field, where the soccer game was taking place. Vicky had to practically be a track runner to keep up with her mother. They finally sat down, Vicky trying to catch a breath of air. The score was 5 to 9. In witch the team with five points was her brother's. "Sweet!" she whispered loudly, as her mother purposely nudged her real hard, trying to make her shut up. After about 5 minutes, the game was over. Yes, that's how late they were. They caught up with Billy and walked him to the SUV. Vicky smiled at her brother, as he stuck his toungue out at her.

They drove home and when they go there, Vicky noticed it was 8:00, so she went to sleep without telling anyone. The next morning, she woke up and went to her bathroom to tie her hair in a pony tail, as usual. She trotted down stairs to eat her toast. Billy was already up and eating and so were her parents. She took her seat at the table and started eating her toast. "I can't believe my soccer team lost the game!" Billy said in disbelief. He finished his toast and orange juice. "Bye mum, dad, brat," he said as he started out the door.
"Come right back here, mister!" his mum shouted as he was half way out the door way. He trudged back to the kitchen and sat down. "You're not going anywhere until you apologize to your sister!" his mum shouted again.

"But, mum--"

"No buts! Apologize now!"

"Fine. Sorry, Vicky,"

Billy raced back to the doorway. He trotted out their garden gate and he was gone. About 5 minutes later, Vicky finished her toast and orange juice. She waited impatiently for the door bell to ring and to see her best friend. She waited for 20 minutes, and raced out the door without hearing the bell ring. "Bye mum, dad," she said and went out the doorway. She was about a foot down the driveway when she practically collapsed with Kayleigh.
"Hey!" Kayleigh said.
"Hey!" Vicky said back.
"Okay, here's the plan: since both your parents are working late on Friday, you'll have a baby-sitter, correct?" asked Kayleigh.

"Yeah."

"Okay, what you need to do is make sure all she does is stuff herself with food, watch TV and fall asleep. So keep offering food, and turn on the TV. When she falls asleep, go up to your bedroom, get your purse, pack the ticket with everything else in your purse, and sneak out your window," Kayleigh told her, as if she planned it all night.
"Okay!" Vicky said. She had one of those long ladder things on her house that vines are supposed to climb up as they grow. It leaded up to her window. She thought, of course, it was dim-minded of her parents to put this up her window. Apparently, they thought, their 13 year-old daughter, whom got bad grades, and disobeyed teachers, would just never do such a thing like sneak out her window to a Green Day concert!

As you would imagine, she day-dreamed about the concert the whole school day. She even fell asleep once, and had to stay for recess to write a 100 word essay about why she fell asleep during math class.

"Well, I was dreaming about a Green Day concert, and well math was boring so there ya go, Mrs. Bitch!" Was all she wrote. She handed it in to her teacher at the end of the school day, so she wouldn't get in trouble again till the next day. I'm sure you find it weird that she only used a cuss word once in this story so far. Well, it was the only time necassary, if you know what I mean. After that, she ran as fast as she could to get home before her teacher called her back to the class room, most likely to write another essay explaining why she called her teacher such an inappropriate name. She tripped over her black shoe laces a bit on the way, but sprinted just in time. After about 15 minutes, she got home. She opened her garden gate and walked up her driveway. She opened her door and walked in. She was about to ring the door bell for a prank, but she decided not to.

"Hey! How was your school day, Vicky?" her mum asked kindly.
"Great, mum. How was your day at work?" Vicky asked back.
"Good. What do you have for homework?" her mum asked.
"Hmm...I have to study for my science test tomorrow," she started, shuffling through her agenda, "I have a math worksheet and a history report to finish. I didn't understand math today so you're going to have to help me, mum," she said, just so her mum can show her how to do the math, that way her math teacher will be totally confused when she looks at her homework and finds out all the questions are correct.

She raced up to her room to do her homework. She decided to finish her history report first, since history was her best subject. The report was on the Treaty of Paris. Easy A, she thought. She spent an hour writing her report, since she had the plan the word coordinates exactly right (her history teacher strictly instructed that the report was to be exactly 50 words, no more, no less). When, "Honey! Kayleigh's come to see you! If you want, you both can do your homework together!" her mum shouted up the stairs.
"Okay! Send 'er up, mum!" Vicky shouted down the stairs.

"Hey, what's up girlfriend?" Kayleigh asked.
"Oh, nothing. Come on in. I only have math and science left to do," Vicky told Kayleigh, inviting her in.
"Okay!" Kayleigh said.

As soon as they got in Vicky's room and closed the door, Kayleigh's high, cheerful voice went to a low whisper. "Tomorrow, we'll meet in your yard. I'll tell my mum I'm going to walk over and pick you up and bring you back at my house so we can get ready to leave for the concert. I'll be there at 7:30. Climb down...umm whatever the heck that ladderish thing is at 7:30. The concert starts at 8:00, which gives us enough time to drive to the London Arena on time. The arena's 20 minutes away, so we'll only have to wait 10 minutes!" Kayleigh told Vicky.

It was the first time Vicky noticed that she hadn't actually known where the concert was taking place and what time it was supposed to happen. "Okay! But, about the baby sitter, what if she's not asleep by then?" Vicky asked, doubtfully.
"You're baby sitted by Mrs. Winslow, correct?" Kayleigh asked Vicky. "Yeah..." Vicky asked, wondering why this really mattered.
"Okay! Trust me, she'll fall asleep. She baby sitted me when I was 5 years old. I know how to make her sleep," Kayleigh told Vicky reassuringly.
"Phew! Okay, Kay, let's get started on homework." Vicky said.

"Okay. Since you've done the history report already, let's get started on math," Kayleigh said, not whispering anymore.
"Alright. It's workbook page 40, right?" Vicky asked her friend.
"Yeah. Don't you write in your agenda?" Kayleigh asked.
"Yeah but I don't feel like taking the dang thing out," Vicky said, laughing.
"Do you want me to do the work? Our hand-writing looks the same, and besides, you fell asleep in math class today! And I wonder who you were dreaming about--" Kayleigh asked, in a weird tone.
"Shut up!" Vicky said playfully, hitting Kayleigh with the nearest pillow.
"Okay let's get started...well I will..." Kayleigh started, "Study for the science test tomorrow while I do the math. When I'm done, we can study together," Kayleigh told Vicky.

Kayleigh started on the math sheet. It was sadly algebraic expressions. "Hmm...if 42 divided by 6 equals N, then N equals 7," Kayleigh muttered under her breath, trying to figure out the first problem.
Vicky just studied from the science book. "So a Zygote," Vicky started muttering, "is a fertilized egg..." she muttered.

After about 30 minutes, Kayleigh was on the last math problem and Vicky was reading the last page on Lesson One in her science book. "What the hell?" Kayleigh said to herself, "look at this question, Vicky, the names are Daleshia and Beeitch," she told Vicky.
"Haha! Oh my god!" they both said together.

"Are you two okay?" Vicky heard her mum scream from the kitchen down stairs. "Yes, mum!" Vicky shouted, still giggling a bit. Kayleigh finished the question. After that, they studied science for about 20 minutes. By then, it was 7:00 PM, so Kayleigh figured she might as well sleep over. There was no way she could walk home in the dark! She could have Vicky come with her, but then Vicky would have to walk back alone. "Can I use your cell?" Kayleigh asked Vicky.
"Yeah, why?" Vicky asked, wondering why Kayleigh would want to call someone so late. "I want to call my mum and ask her if I can sleep over, there is no way I'm going home in the dark!" Kayleigh replied.
"Okay, while you're calling I'm going to ask my mum if you can."

Vicky asked while walking in her hall. Then, Vicky remembered her brother had let her use his gym sock for a pad untill their mum could get to the store and buy some for her. Of course, her period was over and her mum never got to the store. She also still had the sock. Right before she passed her brother's room, she pulled the sock out of her shorts and threw it at him. It landed on his head! "Aww, Vicky! I don't want it anymore! Not after you...you...disposed of your blood on it! Sick!" he yelled and threw the sock out of his room.

No, it didn't land on the floor of the hall. It landed on the wall. On the wet side. So guess what? It sticked on the wall! Vicky was down stairs and had turned right to the kitchen by now. "Mum, can Kayleigh sleep over?" Vicky asked her mum.

"Yes," Vicky's mum told her. Vicky ran back up stairs. She ran past the sock on the wall, then walked backwards to it. "Billy! Sick!" she peeled it off the wall and took it to her room. "Yes you can sleep over and no, don't ask me about Billy's bloody gym sock," Vicky told Kayleigh, walking to her closet to put the sock away. "Let's go to sleep, I'm bummed," Vicky said. She changed in her PJs. Kayleigh didn't even have the energy to walk with Vicky back to Kayleigh's house to get her new clothes for the next day, so she just slept in the same clothes. Vicky jumped in bed and turned out her lamp on her bedside table. RING! RING! Before they knew it, Vicky's alarm clock was going off and it was Friday. The day of Vicky's escape to the Green Day concert.
