Me Meet Green Day? You've Gotta Be Kidding!, chapter 3
I wonder if they'll come...I wonder if they'll come...
Again and again this ran through my mind. 3 weeks later and Green Day were to return to Australia...and they were going to pick me up to tour with them!!
OK, so Bec was extremely jealous when she found out Billie Joe offered to give me guitar lessons. But for the whole period of time when we were meeting Green Day, she barely said a word.
I flopped down onto my bed, again staring at my Rolling Stone poster. As I had thought thousands and thousands of times - it couldn't possiblyreal that I was touring with Green Day!
I glanced at the clock, noticing it would be only an hour until they were due to arrive. I had gotten up that morning at five, unable to sleep - only to clean the house until it was spotless.
Billie had agreed to meet my family - and hopefully convince them to let me tour with them. I hummed happily to myself, tidying every little crease on my bedspread.
An hour later, and I heard the front gate rattle. Immediately our dog, Flop, began to bark uncontrollaby. Around a minute later a car stopped in front of our house. It was an ordinary black land rover - I had been so sure they'd arrive in a limo.
"Jen?" my mum called out, "Please answer the door and let them in."
Did she think I was crazy? I was already making my way out the door!
Billie, Tre and Mike stepped out of the car, their driver close behind them. They looked around the 10 acre block on which I lived, breathing the fresh country air deeply.
"So..this your crash pad?" Tre joked, yet again grinning. "There's so much space!"
"Nah - you guys are just used to the hustle and bustle of the city." I felt really proud of myself, since I acted so normal around the best band in the world.
Mum and Dad came out the front door, followed by my younger brother Max. I introduced them to the three men and they invited them inside.
As Billie Mike and Tre walked inside I desperately hoped my family wouldn't embarrass me. My mum and dad showed Tre and Mike around, while Billie hung back to talk to me.
"Can you show me around outside?" he asked, his bright green eyes giving me the sensation I was being closely analysed.
"Sure." I opened the back door which opened up to the back paddock and dam.
"You have horses?" he asked in awe. "You never told me that!"
I smiled, feeling slightly nervous to be alone in company with my ultimate idol. "You're not scared of them, I hope?"
"I've never really been around them." Billie walked forward to give Raphael, one of my horses, a pat. "They're so sweet!"
"Even if you've had the worst day, and you're in the worst possible mood, you can still walk up to them and they'll give you a look that suggests that everything would be ok." For the gazillionth time I felt slightly stupid.
Billie smiled. "You sure think about this alot."
"Hey Billie! Stop flirting and get Jen to show us around as well!" Tre yelled, he and Mike catching up with Jen and Billie.
"Mind showing us the dam, Jen?" Mike asked.
"Of course!" I led the three guys over the the jetty.
I suddenly felt my feet lift off the ground. Tre was dangling me off the edge of the jetty, threatening to drop me into the water,
I started giggling and screaming at the same time, but enjoying every minute of feeling nearly weightless. Tre finally put me down.
"I'll push you in! There are leeches in there, you know," I added in a warning tone. "Well, anyway..." I looked expectantly at Billie.
"Ah...of course! Tre, Mike - we need to start convincing Jen's parents about the tour thingo. Have you told them yet, Jen?"
"Uh...no. If I did it at the wrong moment, her immediate answer would have been no. It might come better from grown up adults."
Mike sniggered. "Tre? An adult? He still thinks he's eleven."
"An extremely sexy eleven year old," Tre added, wiggling his eyebrows.
Billie shook his head. "C'mon, guys." All three headed back towards the house. I followed.
Just before re-entering the house, Billie stopped me. "Jen? Mind staying out here for a little while? Just incase, you know."
"Uh...of course!" I said, a little too eagerly.
"Great." Billie closed the door behind him.
Around 15 minutes later Green Day emerged from my back door. The looks on their faces were solemn.
"Billie? Shall you break the news or shall I?" Tre asked quietly.
I felt my blood turn cold.
"Jen - "
"Yes?"
"YOU'RE COMING ON TOUR!" Billie grinned.
I couldn't help but scream in delight. I was going on tour with Green Day!
