The Christians are attacking, run for your lives!
I've decided to do a blog on a recurring topic on ye olde GSB: religion.
Most of the people on this site, I presume, are fairly confused on whether to believe in a particular religion or whatever, full of those BIG questions like "Why are we here?", "Why do bad things happen?", "Why is Jimmy Saville still on TV?" etc.
However, there is the occasional bigot of either Christian or Atheist persuasion. I'm not gonna bother bringing Islam and Buddism into all this because most people are cool with everything and that's cool, obviously. So anyway, sorry if you wanted a good essay on Brahma or Minerva.
Anyway...
I find it very ironic that the Christian bigots and the Atheist bigots are...just too alike apart from one respect, and that one respect affects their entire way of thinking. Again, wanna point out that this is a minority of these people and apologies if I piss you off. Cheers.
According to some Atheist bigots, a typical Christian is a Bible-lovin', War mongering, homophobic, racist, sexist, supremist bunch of pathological manipulators who believe in a storybook.
According to some Christian bigots, a typical Atheist is a blashphemin', liberal, anarchic, raping, stealing and murdering bunch of Hellbound heretics.
Ever been told by a parent that the reason why you don't get along with someone is because you're too alike? This is what I'm thinking here. It's like the Atheist bigots and the Christian bigots used to date and they had a petty arguement and refuse to call and apologise to each other. That's what it's like to me.
It's been a few hundred years since the Inquisition, the two parties should accept their differences, move on and go to the Big Religion Ball together and see which one of them can limbo better. Seriously. Each party should accept that not everyone has the same views and no amount of Bible burning or burning witches can change that.
In my opinion, religion is still too vague a topic for me to think about right now. I'll leave that when I have the time to think it over properly, but I believe in modern times if you follow a religion and don't get suckered into the Popular Atheist culture then that's cool, just like it's cool not to believe in God.
Personally, I believe in the old classical Roman mythology, just because, guess what, I can! Free will is the choice to do as you please and believe as you please. Right now, there is no right or wrong answers to this religion debate and people shouldn't have to think that they should make up their minds so soon. Mull over a million beliefs and choose which parts you like and lets have a happy-go-lucky vague religion culture where all religions are accepted as a choice, not a moral right above all else.

I'M Christian.
I find offensive people that thinks Christians are homophobics, racists, sexists, etc, etc,,
Religion is a matter of faith.
Nobody can tell you that you have to believe, if you believe, great, if you don't you have your reasons.
I'm liberal, anarchic, and punk, that doesn't mean I'm Atheist.

i saw the title and was like "oh, no she didnt!" all ready to defend my religion im christian.
but f*ck, your right! ive been saying for so long, that the 20% of idiots in a religion make 80% of the trouble. the inquision, the terrorists.
that christian who says oh your going to hell you heretic, that muslim who says oh your going to hell you infidel (they mean pretty much the same thing XD same as Allah and God are the same.)
so yeah. no arguments here. gotta say, MY God is all loving and all forgiving.
AND THE BIBLE NEVER SAID THE BIT ABOUT THE WITCH! a clerical error caused so much bloodshed... it used to say "thou shalt not suffer a necromancer to live" a necromancer talks to the dead. so saying dont mess with the otherside, only the dead know what the dead know. it was MISTRANSLATED as witch.
witches are pagans, wiccans to be more precise. and my ex and good frend are both wiccan. at least wiccans know what they belive (cough, so many different churches cough)

In my opnion I think that relgions are just cults with more members. I think that if you go to church, thats fine, but I am sick and tired of people telling you that your going to go to hell because you don't go to church or that you don't believe in their relgion. And do you know what? The only ones that have EVER told me that were Christians. And most of them are right wing republicans.
I don't have a relgion because their is no relgion that follows my belifs and all of them, in my opnion, have there fautls including Atheisim.

Well, I'm a Christian Orthodox....And I don't care if somebody believes in another religion or don't believes in any religion at all!!
I have friends that are atheists...My boyfriend is an atheist and he is a very nice person...
Another friend of mine is an atheist...He is fun to be around and a nice person...
But that's about my life...
In general,
Christians should not try to force their religion to someone that don't believes...(Personnally, I never did)! But nor should atheists...
&&
Those stereotypes are complitely wrong...
I'm not homophobic...(I'm bi...how can I be homophobic?)
I'm not racist...(I have friends from other races...)
I'm not sexist....
But still, I'm a Christian...
&&
Atheist are not blashphemin' (some of them...you see you can't be blashphemin if you don't even believe..)
anarchic (not all of them)
raping (I would not be a virgin, I would be raped!)
stealing (Duh..)
murdering (I would be dead and you would be happy..)
----------
Ok, I'll shut up now...

My family is Christian Orthodox, but it was never forced upon me. I sort of just picked up the bible one day in grade 5 and ever since I've put nothing before my religion. However, because it was never forced upon me, I don't force it upon anyone else.
Religion for me is too much of a personal thing, and I get very offended when people ask me to change, so I don't ask others too either. It's their choise.

I love this blog.
It should be block mounted and go platinum.
Youre right. about it all. Espicially the "they should just go to the ball together and see who limbos better"
I dont particularily care at all about those big questions. Dont particularily care about religion at all.
Don't classify myself anything. Im just liz, and i dont believe in much.
..
except the tooth fairy.

I'd just like to point out that for Christianity and Atheism, because they are majority beliefs, there are more bigoted people compared with Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, etc. If you go to places where those religions are a majority, you will find people who are just as bigoted and trying to opressed your religion just the same.

I like this.
I also like how you didn't bash either religions
=DD

I agree with ohmygodshutyourbutt.
But the only thing mentioned that is in the "Christians typical veiw of an Atheist" category is that they're all going to hell.
lady.of.darkness., April 29th, 2007 at 06:29:49pm
my whole life, i've been "raised" as a christian.
but the more i go to my church, the more i dont believe in it.
slowly but surely im becoming atheistic.
and i think its way easier than being "christian".
you dont have to worry about being all perfect and sh*t.
so yea.
nice blog. =]
dancepaigeydance;, April 29th, 2007 at 04:22:45pm
I'm atheist. I'd say that the belief that Christians are Bible-lovin' is 'cause they're always telling me that I should believe in God.
Demonic., April 29th, 2007 at 04:15:32pm
i agree with you, i'm agnostic.
PaNcAkEs, April 29th, 2007 at 04:07:27pm
Good point.
See,I'm a Christian,and if somebody believes otherwise, I don't care.
Religion is supposed to be a faith someone chooses. No one should force it.
And,people shouldn't think I'm homophobic,racist,sexist,etc.
ohmygodshutyourbutt, April 29th, 2007 at 03:44:51pm
lmao, nice.
I agree
