RIP, Ben.
Alot of you probably haven't heard of a recent tragedy to occure not too far from where I live. If you live in Australia - probably NSW - you may have heard of this accident.
Ben and his friend Alex, both 15, were cycling early in the evening, when, while crossing an intersection, both were hit by an oncoming car.
Ben died at the scene, suffering serious injury after going headfirst through the windscreen.
Alex, his best friend, is currently in hospital unconscious.
I don't know the exact details of the accident, but all I can say is that my heart pours out to the families of both of these guys, and now I've become even more aware of these dangers.
What's scariest of all is that these people are my age, live in the same area as me, and I know Alex personally from primary school. They went to my school's 'rival' school only a few blocks away. People I know have actually been absent from school as they were close friends with the victims and their families.
I always got annoyed when I was forbidden to go out on bike rides or even horse rides down my street by myself. I live on a country lane, where the speed limit is 100 kilometres per hour. Cars and trucks often go past faster than this, most of these driven by young, inexperienced drivers.
Only a few days ago, I heard that a little boy had actually died on my street, about 400 metres from where I live a few years ago, after riding his bike around a blind corner and getting hit head-on by an unsuspecting driver.
This too was disturbing.
All I can say is be careful on the roads, no matter how stupid you think it is when a parent or other adult tells you to do so.
Sure, it might never happen to you.
Who knows? Ben and Alex probably didn't expect this either, and nor did they families.
Rest in peace, Ben.

I've heard more news on the accident.
3 days before the accident, Ben learnt that he had been accepted into the National Academy of Sport - for cycling. He was killed training.
I never knew this guy - but its affected me so badly having hit so close to home.

=[
I've almost hit three people in my life.
One of a young boy who dashed out inbetween cars in a parking lot. If I didn't slam on my brakes when i did. *shivers*
Then, I went around a blind corner and almost hit this lady walking in the middle of my road. And then another when I was going around a curve.
Car related deaths are horrible and so scary. I can't empathize enough with those families that are going through it.

Sad.
It's really heartbreaking, how theyre just torn away from the people who love them.
Imagine dealing with that loss, its horrible.
It makes me feel terrible just thinking about the families.
