Green Day, and why I felt the need to write a blog about them.
I love Green Day.
Not to sound like an over-obsessed teenie or anything, but I do.
I bought Bullet In A Bible today. I'd seen it many times before, however, after having borrowed it from the library and replaying it over and over again until I drove my entire family insane.
Most of the people on this site like Green Day. Hopefully. If you don't, then my blog will just sound generally stupid. But maybe you feel the same away when you hear Green Day play.
So why do I like them so much?
Is it the way a song like Jesus of Suburbia makes me think more deeply of the things around me? Or the way the tune to Longview gets stuck in my head so easily I want to be able to sing it all day long?
Green Day had the guts to say what they thought while releasing American Idiot. They took a massive risk, and it paid off. Too many people just go with the majority, don't say what's on their mind - and this is one of the many things that bugs me.
I, for one, almost never know when to stop saying what I think. Sure, it gets me in trouble sometimes. But hey, I rather it that way. I hate hidden lies, I hate hidden opinions, and everyone should have the right to say what they want - freedom of speech.
My music taste has expanded so much since getting into Green Day and punk rock. I listen to political songs, songs with deep lyrics and songs with amazing guitar riffs. Had it not been for Green Day and other similar bands, I would probably be a different person to the one I am today. I would probably not be listening to The Ramones, Clash and Sex Pistols. I would probably not be the overly opinionated person I am. I would probably not be the outspoken person I am.
Basically, music has had a lot of influence on the way I think. Heck, this site has improved the way I think. I've learnt there's a different view on everything, and that I should stand up for myself no matter how outnumbered I am.
As I write this blog I think back to getting my new guitar a week ago for my birthday. Watching BIAB and American Idiot film clips inspired me to start guitar. To play like Billie. To express myself musically.
Watching Billie play guitar is both amazing and frustrating all at once. He makes it look so easy, so simple - but there is so much more behind what he is playing and singing.
And Mike and Tre? I wish I could play all three instruments. These guys are truly amazing to me.
All those years ago, seeing Green Day sing in front of the upside down green American flag sparked a love that I never thought would influence me so much. I got into their old stuff as well, realising I had liked songs like Good Riddance, Minority and Warning and never known who it was by.
To those who are rolling their eyes as they read this blog, sorry. But then again...whats to stop me saying 'fuck you?' I won't say it, but I felt obliged to write something this deep about my favourite band anyway.
So Green Day, thankyou. Thankyou for your music, your effort, your influence and your god damn awesomeness to listen to.
And thanks to all those who have listened to me talk about this band so much - and thanks to you who have read this blog.
Maybe you have something to say about Green Day? Whatever it is, I'd like to hear it. Maybe they've made you feel the same way, or the complete opposite. Either way, I'll listen.

I don't really like them all that much anymore.
I mean, I think they're alright.
However, I like the things Billie and the crew do for charity.

I agree. Green Day has helped and taught me so much. They opened up a whole new world for me that has changed my life. I'm glad you made this blog because half the time I forget that gsb is even a green day site. I love them too, and I always will. I don't care what anyone says because through my eyes they're the most amazing band I've ever seen.

Amen! I feel the exact same way about them. Listening to Green Day helped me figure out who I am and they gave me the confidence to write stories again and be myself.
