American Idol
You want to know what? I hear a lot of people who are always dissing American Idol, calling it a sellout show. The usual criticism from a lot of people on this site sounds a lot like this, "omfg i h8 american idol their all sellouts and fakes." Pretty unintelligent. So I'm gonna speak from the supposed minority on this site in favor of the show.
Yeah, American Idol has its downs. I don't like how they rag on all those poor delusioned souls who believe they can sing during the auditions. I'd be humiliated if that were me, and I'd probably seek out Ryan Seacrest and rip his entrails out afterwards. But, other than that... what makes it any more "sellout" than anything else? I mean, hell... From the perspective of a lot of people out there, what ISN'T sellout these days? People call Green Day sellouts. Pretty much every other band out there is considered sellouts by their fans, when you think about it. In THAT case, from that point of view, what separates American Idol from Green Day? I find that pretty hypocrital, unless my theory is right about there being absolutely NO universal definition for "sellout." I hate that term. But back to American Idol...
Aside from the contestant bashing, I like the idea behind it. Finding America's undiscovered talent? What's wrong with that? I actually listen to the stuff some of the past idols came out with. Kelly Clarkson is amazing, Bo Bice and Constantine Moralis are pretty sweet too, and don't even get me STARTED on Blake Lewis! He's the beast in my avatar, for all you American idol n00blets. I bet Rachel's probably drooling at my mentioning his name if she's reading this right now. =) Again, going back to the main topic: I like the concept of the show. I love to see all the people out there with different singing styles and seeing them compete in different genres. Sure, there's some corny lines and bashing by Ryan, but I watch it for the talent.
Besides, you've got a million other "sellout" shows out there. Like I said, what isn't sellout these days? I can understand not liking a show because you just don't like the show, but it's another thing calling a show sellout when... ah, I made my point about that earlier.

vv They've just allowed contestants on Canadian Idol to play their own instruments, btw. :]

Vegemite: Yeah, I know. And they can't play instruments on the set, which sucks too. They do that so the "competition is fair." =/
BUT that doesn't mean that they don't write their own music. There's a lot of idols who play instruments in bands, write original material. Like Blake, Chris Daughtry, and some other artists. Almost everyone from this season could play an instrument. But that's what the tour is for, I guess. To see them in their element. Oh well.

it's kinda the same with australian idol, or big brother.
They've been going for what... 5 or 6 years now, maybe more... i think they should have ONE reality TV show ... and not 1 season of the show every year .. get's a bit repetitive.

You have a great point! Although, for me, i dont really like it, i mean, yeah, a lot of people can sing, and some of the people that get big and win the Idol thingo, they never write their own songs, and that just pisses me off.

I just never watched that show. I'm not a reality show person.
But,I love Kelly Clarkson.

Totally agree with you. Especially about the following sentence: I bet Rachel's probably drooling at my mentioning his name if she's reading this right now. =) :P
But yeah, AI is no different than any other popular show. I like AI because I, like you, like the concept of it. Plus, if AI didn't exist, we'd never know about Blake Lewis. And that would be pure torture. :P Seriously.
Also, I agree with you about Kelly Clarkson, she's a rad singer.
