I was talking to my friend and she was telling me about how her mom grounded her for another month because she went out with her next door neighbor for dinner... and didn't tell her mom when she told her dad and he said it was ok!! Then while we were talking on the phone her mom got onto the other phone and was listening the ENTIRE TIME!! her mom went off on her she started cry and yell! then whenb her mom got off the phone she had to go cause her mom was banging on her bedroom door cause she locked herself in..
Being grounded when she had already gained permission from her Dad to go is harsh. And her Mother listening in on phone calls is just too intrusive. I'm guessing if she is the same age as you her mother is in that overprotective and controlling time, being unable to cope with the realisation that her child is starting to grow up and wants a little more freedom. It can be a scary time for parents, more so for mothers. But they have to learn to give and take a little trust on each others behalf. Maybe if she could find a way to speak calmly and rationally to her mom about her friends etc, her mom may be a little more understanding. Maybe they could compromise on a few things.

I don't think she should be grounded considering she asked her dad and he said it was alright..
