You're Not Alone by Saosin//Music saves lives.

How many times have you seen these words or something like them on someone's profile:
"xband saved my life."
People never elaborate on that, which bothers me...I can honestly say the Used really did save my life, and I'll tell the story to anyone who wants to know how. That's not what this blog is about though, so I'll give the shortened version: 14 years old, suicide attempt, listening to their Reprise debut, the bonus track "Choke Me" came on [well, to be specific, that English hooker, but you get the point.] and scared me so badly I couldn't follow through-I was too shaken.
Anyways, moving right along.

These are the lyrics to You're Not Alone by Saosin.

That's just like him
To wander off in the evergreen park
Slowly searching
For any sign of the ones he used to love
He says he's got nothing left to live for
(He says he's got nothing left)
And this time I think you'll know

You're not alone
There's more to this I know
You can make it out
You will live to tell

She's just like him
Spoiled rotten, confused by the lies shes been fed
Shes searching for no one (but herself)
Her eyes turn to green and she seems to be happy that she is here
And this time I think you'll know

You're not alone
There is more to this I know
You can make it out
You will live to tell

You're not alone
There is more to this i know
You can make it out

(There is more to know)

We're not alone
There is more to this i know
You can make it out
You will live to tell

(So tell me)

You're not alone
There is more to this i know
You can make it out
You will live to tell

You're not alone
There is more to this i know
You can make it out
You will live to tell

You're not alone
You're not, you're not alone

I'll admit it, I'm not a big Saosin fan, I really only know this song and Voices. But! I absolutely adore this song. The first time I heard it, I thought, "Yeah. This makes me feel better." I just really love when a band can do something like this, create something that offers hope without being preachy. I really don't think enough bands do that. For example, if you just listen to the radio on any given day, the vast majority of the songs you will hear are about partying, drugs, women, love, and heartbreak. Now that's not all bad, but it's just not enough. If someone's just been dumped, or in a fight or something along those lines, obviously love songs aren't going to really make them feel better, nor are depressing "Oh-I-lost-her" songs. The partying and drugs and women stuff, I just don't really see the point in those at all.

To conclude, I really like the message Saosin is sending to their listeners with You're Not Alone. It offers a feeling of fellowship and understanding, and better yet, inspires hope for a better future.
