Elliot Minor: Leeds Met Uni 27th Oct 2007

Line Up:
You Me At Six *Armstrong
Enjoy Destroy
Elliot Minor

Venue:
Leeds Met Uni is a small venue, only about 1100 people can fit in the big room, which is rather small. Unlike the cockpit, there is a barrier that prevents the audience getting near the stage, but it didn’t matter. Just getting a place to stand, you could tell it was something spectacular. The fog machines were already whirling, and the lights flickering with many colours.

Support Act One: *Armstrong
You Me At Six couldn’t play, but all we were told by Tim [lead singer] was that Chris had had an attack of some form. But *Armstrong was pretty immense anyway. They supported Elliot Minor at the first Leeds gig they did and they’re really nice people. Tim is an amazing front man, honest and all. For example when they brought out the acoustic guitar, he refused to sing because it was un-tuned so he wandered into the audience, passing the microphone to random people and asking for stories, telling us how he was not a comedian. It was a shame that they only lasted 30 minutes, but they were amazing for those 30, especially since they only got told of the gig 5 hours before, and were a few members down.

Support Act Two: Enjoy Destroy
Little interaction, little warm up, basically they came on, played and left. The first song was good, the rest was poor. I was expecting a little more, they could have interacted with us a bit more, warmed us up and wound us up like *Armstrong did; but they didn’t. A real let down.

Intermission
15 minutes of random music in between the support acts, then half an hour while the stage was set up for Elliot Minor. In the half an hour slot, music like the Killers and Kaiser Chiefs came on, and it was amazing how the whole crowd was singing along to these.

Main Act: Elliot Minor
Oh My God; Immense. I’d seen them before, in May, and oh how they’ve grown. Instead of humbly coming on, smiling and acting all scared [it was their first tour date], they came on and started with lights and all. Alex was an amazing front man, keeping us going. Ed was awesome to watch, with so much raw energy. Ali played his heart out. Dan could have lasted for hours and Teddy was enjoying everything he did. The show was unique, Teddy played cello at one point, Dan sang and Alex brought out the electric violin.

Elliot Minor are seen as ‘tame rock’, but tame wasn’t the word to describe the mosh pit. I was about 3 rows back from the front when they started, and soon I was pressed up against the barrier. I have bruises and I’m sore but it was worth it. The crowd were one person, moving as if we were connected.

Towards the end of their hour and a half performance, the band left the stage, dragging people back on to lead Alex’s happy late birthday song, before the kicked into the final song: Parallel Worlds where we basically murdered each other, before they left to the sadness of the whole venue.

Afterwards
I met them all, they signed my arm and my shoe. I got photos with each of them, got a hug from Teddy and Ed and rang Lizzie to let her speak to Alex. Also one of the stage crew gave me a bottle [Alex’s or Ed’s, but my sister thinks it’s Ed’s] then Teddy signed it. All of them were friendly, all of them were immense and I’m glad I hung around!
