Rant.
I'm tired of people hating bands for being "popular", "mainstream" or whatever. If you really liked a band's music, it shouldn't matter that they take different photos or sing different songs or are on MTV. Music is meant to be listened to and mass produced. Music is something that everybody should enjoy and it shouldn't be an exclusive club.
Also, you don't have to dress or act a certain way when you listen to a type of music because that's ridiculous. Just because you listen to punk rock doesn't mean you have to dress like every other punk rocker yelling things at the 7-11. Here comes the most overused phrase: Be yourself. But it's true.
We also shouldn't fault the bands for being successful and changing their sound. It's called evolution, advancement. They're just getting paid for doing what they love to do - like anybody else. The only difference between them and us is that they're making a lot more money. But when you come from nothing and have a chance to come into something, you gotta grasp the opprotunity. Plus, your music and reach new people and save lives all over the world.
Just enjoy the music, people.

Wow, I thought I was going to get crucified for this blog.
Thanks for your honest opinions.

Totally agree ^^
If a band is that popular then their obviously doing something right, and you shouldn't ever feel that you can't like a band because it's not 'cool' or 'hip' to.
And I also think it's stupid to like a band based on the grounds of their name, if it's really alternative or weird or something, like it makes you look/sound all cool and alternative when you talk about them or list them in your Music section on a social network site [not that i'm knocking them seeing as i'm on half of them..]
Though it's an incredibly funny film and one of my favourites, I agree with what Jack Black says in his rant to the kids about MTV, Music and of course 'The Man'.
"Give up, just quit, because in this life, you can't win. Yeah, you can try, but in the end you're just gonna lose, big time, because the world is run by the Man. The Man, oh, you don't know the Man. He's everywhere. In the White House... down the hall... Ms. Mullins, she's the Man. And the Man ruined the ozone, he's burning down the Amazon, and he kidnapped Shamu and put her in a chlorine tank! And there used to be a way to stick it to the Man. It was called rock 'n roll, but guess what, oh no, the Man ruined that, too, with a little thing called MTV! So don't waste your time trying to make anything cool or pure or awesome 'cause the Man is just gonna call you a fat washed up loser and crush your soul. So do yourselves a favor and just GIVE UP!"

I don't think you should dislike a band because they're mainstream, but I try to steer clear of those generic mainstream bands.
I'll only listen to mainstream if they're truely, amazingly, exeptionally brilliant.

My favourite band is the most popular group in music history. That doesn't make them bad.
To me, if a band is popular, there's a reason.
Although there probably are some exceptions. None come to mind at the moment.
