Be a Rebel- Don't Rebel
I haven't written one of these in awhile.
So... here it goes.
It cracks me up so much when people think it's "cool" to fight the system.
I don't understand the whole "fuck the man" concept. I mean... it's so immature to just disrespect someone. I don't care how much you hate them. It's pathetic. It's not cool to "rebel." In fact, saying "fuck you" is hardly a rebellion. It cracks me up when people think they are such a bad ass for mouthing off to authority. It just makes them look so incompetent, and so immature.
All of a sudden, rebellion is so cool and so hip.
Do you even know why people are meant to rebel? To fight back for a belief. To fight for a right. Not for some petty, prepubescent argument.
I guess I bring this up because it is, in fact, Black History Month. Martin Luther King Jr. is without a doubt one of my idols. He fought back A) for a reason and B) the right way. I mean... look at all he achieved. You'd think people would realize that he did something right... and, I don't know, follow in his footsteps.
Go figure.
It's so sickening and pathetic to watch people be complete jerks because they think it's cool.
'Cuz you know what?
It's people like them that become the pig-headed authority figures that some of us distrust and dislike.
Being disrespectful is immature, no matter how you look at it. Even if you've been disrespected, since when has giving it back done anything good? We've been hearing it forever, but it just puts you at their level.
For the record, this doesn't make you a conformist. If you have a cause, why not fight back? Do it intelligently, but fight back. But being a "rebel" over just anything and everything, doesn't make you a nonconformist either. It just makes you look incompetent.

You should respect everyone because if we just did the same bad things as everyone has ever done to us, then we'd all be dead.
And for the third time- I know it depends on what you're rebelling against. Read the entire blog and read my post already. And if that's not clear enough, then I'm sorry I didn't write it out well.

I agree that rebelling just because it's "in" is lame.
Good blog =)
I do flip off teachers and tell them to f*ck off and sh*t. But I don't think that makes me cool... it's just that I swear a lot .. ...and I don't get why I should be respectful to adults if they're not respectful to me. ....
o.o
but yeah XD
Good blog =)

i deffinatly agree with you.
I am always respectful around teachers and my parents etc. and I am as polite as possible and I do what I am told.
yeah sometimes I get a little aggitated and flip out once in a while. but we're teenagers, it's in our life to rebel.
but yeah, i hate it when people are disrespectful cause they think it's cool..i mean..give me a break.
but it does depend on what you are rebelling against :]

DAM STRAIT!
you said it all

I never said rebellion was bad. I'm pretty aware that sometimes there are reasons, and I fully support those... In fact, if you read it, I talked about how MLK Jr. was my idol... and his rebellion was huge... which meant that I know he had a reason :]
I'm saying disrespect is bad. It should never go hand in hand with rebellion.
JOOLS, February 5th, 2008 at 05:47:00pm
I agree with schooldropout, sometimes you have a reason for rebelling.

She never said there was never a reason to rebel. Read the second half of her blog- it explains when rebelling is actually useful and not just stupid teenage trends.

Sometime's people have a reason to rebel, and until you understand it you'll never know

i agree, i mean, some things i do not like, example, the exxesive amount of advertising in Melbourne city. The buildings that are made look terrific, and add a certain value to the city, Flinders street station itself is a work of Art, SPencer street station, and that part of Swanston street that reminds me of Spiderman XD.
I was walking down Flinders street station to get out, and the amount of ads were rediculous, one ad in particular, repeated several times. In these cases i feel like adding my own mind to them, i feel like bringing in a massive texta and write something ironic in a place on it, but nothing including swear words.
Im sick f buildings being ruined by these ads, i cant stress it enough. If i really wanted a product, i would go out and buy it, and im pretty sure you am I woud aswell. I know, your probably thinking 'But Isabel, not all ads are to sell a product', i understand, things like advertising bands and when they will be touring is ok, because the intentions of them might be to sell out a show and make money, but its not for a crummy product that was made for the intention to sell and screw you over, and even with ads for bands, keeping them in a non rediculous place is fine.
We pay taxes, so im pretty sure these train stations can afford money, we also pay a lot of money for train tickets, and Connex is always screwing up so i dont know why we should be paying so much (off topic)
But yeah, i dont call myself a 'rebel' and i hate when people use that word to describe themselves, because most of those people are hte ones that are full of sh*t.
Vegemite, February 5th, 2008 at 03:51:12am
I agree completely.
I'm too afraid to rebel against teachers/my parents. The only "rebellious" thing I've ever done was try to sneak into a mosh pit. When the guard took me out, I was shaking so much 'cause I was scared sh*tless. Yeah, I'm a wimp...
Great blog :]

Thank you! Everyone thinks it's cool to conform to nonconforming, when in fact, they look like an idiot.
I feel like since the rules have tightened a bit in our generation (with good cause), our generation is eager for a fight and have become rebels without a cause.
Good blog.

O___O
I don't swear in front of adults at all.
I'm afraid of what they'll do to me.
Unless you're my parents.
Cause they never found out about that one time in third grade when I mouthed off to a teacher for giving me a bad kindergarten buddy..
:[
I feel bad now.
BLOG.

I COULDN'T AGREE MORE.
It pisses me off so much how everyone is constantly whining about the "pigs" and swearing at the cops because they got fined for getting drunk, underage, in public or something stupid like that. Or just whining and being ~hardcore rebels~ for no reason.
