I Thought He Loved Me

I think this poem is pretty self explainatory. It's about a young woman losing her husband to, well, himself. It was inspired by a good friend of mine losing her boyfriend a few years back. I hope you enjoy it...

I Thought He Loved Me

I thought he loved me,
When he told me “don’t cry,
Everything will be okay,
We’ll never have to say goodbye.”

I thought he love me
When he took my hand
Smiled so wide
Like he understands

I thought he loved me
When wrote me a song
Saying our love
Will last ever so long

I thought he loved me
When he called me ‘this girl’
He kissed my cheek
Proudly showed me to the world

I thought he loved me
When he said not to worry
That he’d be here forever
No need to hurry

I thought he loved me
When he popped the question
Still keeping lies so well
No way was I guessing

I thought he loved me
When I gave him great news
He was to be a dad
Glowing when he knew

I thought he loved me
When he tucked our girl in each night
Read her a story
And said “sleep tight”

I thought he loved me
Every night he came home
Always stayed close to me
Never left me alone

I thought he loved me
Now I’m sure that it’s true
His last words last night
We’re “I love you”

He lied to me
About all of his pain
But somehow I still love him
It’s so hard to explain

I miss him so bad
I’ll never see him again
Only if I go to heaven
I’ll see him then
