After American Idiot

2004 was a year of justice for a band trying to rise to the top tear of Rock, a sector they once owned. Green Day blasted throuth a barrier that halted them, it was four years since the Berkley Trio were on the production line, four years of panting from the faithful that craved something fresh, some punk goodness, the hunger pangs were becoming overbearing. Now you think? How is a band who stuck together their most enchanting catalogue to date, going to surpass that grounbreaking achievement? Well sit up and listen, tune your heads and wait for a new onslught of Green Day flair.

America has became a Country swamped in it own regrets, dismantled and scarred by war, a war thats cut profoundly to the bone. Green Day made their own rock opera, a collection of brutal, infectious statements that burrowed into the skin of a president destined to be turned against. Punk's prized assets made their points crystal clear, they sampled the reject from fans that jumped around in the punk magic in the Dookie era, but now fought after as massive sell outs. American Idiot was a real marvel for rock Music, a tantlising piece of energy that revitalised a band derailing and growing old, and growing stale, but Green Day ventured beyond their 3 chord comfort zones, and stated that they would'nt crumble in the fist of uncertainty.

American Idiot is now accolade that sits upon the mantelpiece stationed in the rock hall of fame, alongside its prominent other half. Dookie was the masterful uplift into glory for a band that were only struting for 5 years. Young latch-key kids who never hoped for the success that would be given to them, they were looking for acceptance more than mass attention. But attention came in abundance, and Green Day were becoming pivotal frontrunners in Punk/Rock at a tender age. American Idiot has become old news, like Dookie, Green Day are destined to move away from polictical issues and old merits that are keeping them afloat.

2008 has reared its head, times have passed, culture has changed, life has become more advanced. Music has became a internet success story. Downloading has pulverised Cd sales, bands are now media darlings, processed and manufactured by record labels squeezing out every ounce of money they can get. Music is a selling point, more than a entertainment, and its a mind numbing fact. Green Day are entering a new league, fuled in mediocrity, deep filled with bands that clash and emulate. Emo has became a prominent genre, punk/rock's electric feel has burned out, and will never be patched back to former glory.

Yeah Music's looking guant, its complexion has seen better days. Not to say that the phenomenon has died, or is going to, but its unity factor does'nt exsist anymore. Mp3 has taken over, cutting the throat of Music stores that make more income from Dvd's and posters than what they are acclaimed for. Not to say that the introduction of surppressed files is'nt a revelation, or a breakthrouth, its just dampened the whole lookout of Music's next step. Green Day will assert themselves into a whole new World when they come out of hybernation, because its a tuff ride for the vetarens.

The wondering fact is? What route will Green Day take when the leap back into the blinding spotlight of Rock? Will they stray back to the formula's that have brought them forward and have placed them in the major table of Music. Will they enter Music with a clean slate, will the ghost of American Idiot linger, our will the influience of past records enlighten their next move? We just have wait and observe, because this band are the adminstrators of the term surprise.
