Old Punks and Hippies are now Republicans
No this is not another eternal argue about which is best, or an attempt to try to convince you about what you should be. This is also NOT an argument about republicans. If I think republicans suck really really bad? Yeah I sure as hell do, but it aint the point of this blog. Kay?
Now I was reading this article on SWITCH, article's name is PUNK IS DEAD, and it contains this narration, fragments of it
Its about a girl: Helena, she lives in London in the summer of 77, she is the daughter of a hippie marriage, she is part of that working class, or used to be,..she now just gets the chec, she goes to Vortex and watches the sex pistols playing. She is one of those girls against the system, part of the NO FUTURE generation.
Just 30 years later she is a housewife, married with a suit dude. She washes the dishes as she looks outside where her little sis listens to mcr, on her brand new ipod.
no more " I am an anti-crist" never again "Anarchy"

Yes that's right, punk is dead,
It's just another cheap product for the consumers head.
Bubblegum rock on plastic transistors,
Schoolboy sedition backed by big time promoters.
CBS promote the Clash,
But it ain't for revolution, it's just for cash.
Punk became a fashion just like hippy used to be
And it ain't got a thing to do with you or me.
Movements are systems and systems kill.
Movements are expressions of the public will.
Punk became a movement cos we all felt lost,
But the leaders sold out and now we all pay the cost.
Punk narcissism was social napalm,
Steve Jones started doing real harm.
Preaching revolution, anarchy and change
As he sucked from the system that had given him his name.
Well I'm tired of staring through shit stained glass,
Tired of staring up a superstars arse,
I've got an arse and crap and a name,
I'm just waiting for my fifteen minutes fame.
Steve Jones you're napalm,
If you're so pretty (vacant) why do you swarm?
Patti Smith you're napalm,
You write with your hand but it's Rimbaud's arm.
And me, yes I, do I want to burn?
Is there something I can learn?
Do I need a business man to promote my angle?
Can I resist the carrots that fame and fortune dangle?
I see the velvet zippies in their bondage gear,
The social elite with safety-pins in their ear,
I watch and understand that it don't mean a thing,
The scorpions might attack, but the systems stole the sting.
PUNK IS DEAD. PUNK IS DEAD. PUNK IS DEAD.
PUNK IS DEAD. PUNK IS DEAD. PUNK IS DEAD.
PUNK IS DEAD. PUNK IS DEAD. PUNK IS DEAD.
But the worst its not that the punk its dead, hell knows it was its time, "Picture Vicious at 35"(bedtime for democracy).
The Worst its that this girl "Helena" gave up, no one knows how, why, or when. But 30 years latter she is the anti-punk essence, and so are MANY girls and guys that used to visit vortex listening to the buzzcocks.
Same with hippies which was also anarchy, a pacific anarchy...
This dude used to live on Haight and Ashbury, get his stuff at phsychedelic store, act with the diggers, and place flowers over the soldiers guns, now he is the employee of the month, selling you this fancy cream.
This generations of "NO FUTURE" and "WE BUILD THE FUTURE" are both now dreamless, hopeless, since there was no future they joined the system's future.
WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED????
WHY WOULD THEY GIVE IT ALL UP?
ITS ANARCHY JUST NOT DESTINED TO BE?
IF THERE IS NO FUTURE, THERE IS NO DESTINY
SO FUCK THE DESTINY AND FUCK THE FUTURE, EITHER YOU ARE: A HIPPIE A PUNK, A FREAK, A LAMEASS DUDE, ETC ETC, YOU CAN'T FUCKING GIVE UP
ITS ON US CHANGING THIS BLOODY WORLD, SINCE THEY GAVE UP, IT IS ON US.
(sorry for caps abuse)
And yeah maybe a generation that worries more about theirselves, and are always looking for an excuse to cut their wrist, instead of getting something done, its not the best chance to change the world, but dude we gotta try if we dont, we have already lost against a capitalist system, this OSM society that sells us everything from music to pain. Because now thats all they do, wanna feel hardcore? go to a massive record store sure as hell they've got some depresive music form dudes that claim to be "indie"
INDIE USED TO BE EQUAL TO I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T
The thing its not to agree its to THINK, or are they gonna turn you in?? Dont welcome the machine man...
THINK that changes the world not mohawks, flowers or razor blades.

Old punk is dead, but we are the new generation, old punk wasn't as serious as it is now, now, punk is the only real way to protest, it's great, and it's a revolution.

Lyddy r teh Snaily, June 18th, 2007 at 08:21:18am
Well I think I have that blind faith "you may say I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one"
You see I disagree and agree
"Its just the way you present your self. If you go around yelling "ANARCHY" thats not gonna work.
I think If you can be mature about it why stop having a certain opionion about some things when you get older? "
I think that if they defend it that way when they are young, why to get softer? I mean the system doesnt gives a break, punks and well all of us shouldnt give it a break either. Giving consessions makes the system stronger, its hard going against it, but If we stop we loose. Its like getting into a massive riot and then just staying still in the middle of it.
Truth its we do need to be mature about it, but never getting in, like haight n ashbury, they never got into the system, they made their clothes, got their food by raising their animals, etc etc.
Dumbfuck, March 17th, 2007 at 11:21:17pm
Ive said this before...
to be an Anarchist you have to have alot of faith in mankind.
you have to believe that people can some how be decent and work together with out government and with out laws.
and if they cant do it now, whos to say they can do it then?
so in that scence...Anarcy is impossible.
And some older punks get considered losers. I disagree with that.
I think that that they are actually very smart. Its just the way you present your self. If you go around yelling "ANARCHY" thats not gonna work.
I think If you can be mature about it why stop having a certain opionion about some things when you get older?
people just look at punk as nothing more then people Dress sometimes.
which isnt a bit true.
Miss Misfit, March 17th, 2007 at 08:45:15pm
thats its truth most punx dont even know what is anarchy
Im not punk man, never been, never will be, but I believe in anarchy, and I know what anarchy is man.
Dumbfuck, March 17th, 2007 at 01:01:06am
Anarchy is beyond ridiculous and no, it isn't ever meant to be. It will never happen and it's a good thing because it would be total chaos. But, you know, you aren't reall a punx rawker if you don't wear an Anarchy sign. Half those kids don't even know what Anarchy is; they just see Anti-flag wearing it like a freaking brownie badge.
Kurtni, March 17th, 2007 at 12:13:49am
Well Im never giving up WE GOTTA CHANGE THIS BLOODY WORLD
Dumbfuck, March 16th, 2007 at 11:51:14pm
The Individual has little effect on soceity unless their actions or words are so unorthodox.
Changes will never happen, sooner you realise, the better.
No matter who you vote for, teh government always gets in.
If you want to change the world, sling a gun and blast a few brains. Maybe then, someone will listen.
Until that day, everyone follows a code. Sad, but true.
Even you are rebelling in the way they want you to.
And "emoness" should be a term stricken from all mortal memory. What is one man's emo is another man's mental illness. Deal with it, grow up and stop causing the stigma of mental ill health to press further onto the throats of our society.
The Doctor, March 16th, 2007 at 10:23:37pm
Some people forget who they are.
No matter what you are labeled, never forget what you stand for and your dreams.
That's all that really matters.
Burning Love Letters, March 16th, 2007 at 06:39:30pm
right you are, there are so few people who actually understand this genre and all the rest. The story about helena, interesting, indeed. And just like you said, instead of slicing our wrists we should pack our razors away(ps, i dont cut myself) and actually do something about the things we aren't happy about. and like Funky Platypus said, we are all different...i for instance fit into the emo category for some reason, also into the punk category for some reason but on the whole i'm a mix so even i dont know wtf i belong :D And the best thing to do is to be an individual.
PaNcAkEs, March 16th, 2007 at 05:13:05am
Punk rock is freedom, its not a genre, or a movement, its the way to say I dont f*cking care and believing the world its what you do of it, its being your own Idol and dont minding how they see you, most punk bands aint punk because from the second they claim themselves as punk, they are getting into the system of labeling, of fitting into a minority of the system but in the end they are inside it. Punk its dead because everyone cares because its easier.
"Either you are a hippie, a punk, a freak, a lameass dude, etc etc." what I meant with that, was that I dont give a f*ck about how ppl think they are or how they are labeled
Dumbfuck, March 15th, 2007 at 11:53:37pm
Yeah, I don't think people understand punk. For some people it's too WEIRD. And lots of people want change. I don't think punk is dead, I just think people have stereotypes of punks, like Funky Platypus said. People think they're just another bunch of mohawk guys who are talking more than thinking. Which is sad, 'cause what the world really needs is change. People need to learn to be individuals, and not follow the leader. That's what we learn in school-to sit down, shut up and pay attention. We do learn some important stuff, but that's the kind of attitude school gives us. So I think people just need to learn what punk is about and what it really means.
Demonic., March 15th, 2007 at 09:34:48pm
I half agree and I half disagree.
I believe that the world DOES need to change, and too many people have given up on that movement, to change all of the sh*t that's going on now, and are just living the everday American life. What happened to that vigor people used to have? It's gone. It's true, that so many people have turned mainstream now, no one's branching out. We do need to think, and it's even MORE important to think for ourselves.
However, I've got a few things to disagree with. I liked the energy and the ideas that go along with punk which you've stated (change/anti-conformism), but there's also other ways to get that message out. People associate some bad stereotypes with punk, that they're just crazy mofos who don't know what they're talking about, because most people can't understand one-two chord songs and all that NOISE. If we really want to get the message out, we've got to make some changes of our own:
- STOP BEING EMO. Complaining about our problems won't be helping anything.
- GET THE PUNK MESSAGE. People don't understand punk music. Parly because its underground, partly because of the style. Since punk is a lifestyle, not a music genre, we need some regular people with punk coursing through their veins to start talking about change and what the music's truly about. Then, maybe some people will begin to understand and try and change things.
You said this: "Either you are a hippie, a punk, a freak, a lameass dude, etc etc." Even if you might fit into one "category" of people, we're all different and technically we all see things in different ways. We can also be an individual.
