discouraging or enlightening?
Hearing yourself actually singing for the first time can be a really big moment for some people. I mean, I know I'm no singer, but when I recorded my self singing for the first time and then listened to it, boy was I shocked. The noises I heard myself making resembled that of a walrus. I'm not even kidding, possibly exaggerating a tiny bit, but I am completely and honestly serious. Well, for a few minutes after, my dreams for the future were crushed, and I was embarrassed that I had ever sang along to anything in front of people. At least I now know I'll never be a famous singer in a rock band, or win American Idol (not that I would ever let myself near and Idol audition room), or anything like that. But hey, now I can focus on other things I'm actually good at. I doubt I'd ever make it in the music business being that there are millions of other people my age that have much more talent and motivation than I. Maybe I'll be a writer, or write reviews for actual singers. By tomorrow I will have thought up a completely different idea for a future career and hopefully I'll have enough to write about that and share it with whoever is reading this.
So I guess the moral of my story is figure out what you like, then figure out what you're good at, put them together, and do something with your life!

i actually asked my mom for lessons about a year ago when i saw that the place i went to for guitar lessons there was a girl there who did singing lessons.. my mom told me you actually need talent in that area to take lessons, she has such faith in me haha

I have never gotten lessons, and I'm not a great singer, buuut, I noticed I sound a little better when I pay attention to how it hits my throat. I don't know if that makes sense, haha.

yeah, what Kyra said. Lol, i was so horrible when i was like 13, but i was so sure i could totally sing xD then i got lessons and had those for three years, and there is such a difference, honestly. i would even go as far as saying i'm good at singing. i'm pretty sure i'll forget techniques and sh*t, because i can't afford to pay for the lessons myself, and my parents won't pay for them anymore, so.. =/
but, anyways. if you want to sing, do it. get lessons.

Just keep practicing. I noticed the more I did the less sh*tty I sounded on recording.
