Mike's a brilliant bassist in the sense that he has a good stage presence and is very energetic in his performance while not making many, if any mistakes. I think he's generally underrated, but I wouldn't say he's a contender for best of all time. Then again, it's your opinion, I respect it Smile

I dont think there is a best. What's good to some could be crap to another. I like Mike dirnt, and Mikey Way... ( hmm...) and... I can't think of any names right now... I kinda woke up half an hour ago... hold on...

The guy from The Red Hot chilli Peppers is great.I don't lnow. A lot of Jazz musicians who play bass do a good job.

I think Flea is a good bassplayer, however I have never enjoyed RHCP's style of music and I think that Flea is an asshole as a person. Therefore, I don't like him that much. But I do understand that he is good.

I guess I"m more into slap-style bassists and stuff
been loving some Marcus Miller lately cause he's amazing
and Stanley Clarke is just classic

hmm if you're into slap, i'm surprised you don't like flea. he's the master of slap [in modern day music]. and i've never heard of anything about him that would make him an asshole, but if you think so, ah well.

Mark King is probably a more technically advanced slap bass player.

I can tell you don't play bass. Wink Try listening to the Chili Peppers or the Replacements, and hear how amazing a bassist can be.

I'm more into jazz music at the moment though
and its not so much as I don't like flea's playing style but more like I don't like the band as a whole
and trust me I've seen all this crap he's constantly saying that makes him seem pretty arrogant to me
probably wouldn't wave at me like Victor Wooten did *is still obsessed with that moment in her life*

and I think Marcus Miller will always be the master of slap ;D

victor wooten's bass isnt bassy enough. it irritates me.

In rock music, it's definately Brian Richie from the Violent Femmes. Even though he's playing an acoustic bass most of the time, it still carries the same...no, more power and force than any electric bass or bass player can ever manage. The Violent Femmes are all about the raw, untamed, un-'formulaic', 'emotional', and non-'decandent bullshit'. And it shows soooo well in Brian Richie's bass lines, it's remarkable. The Violent Femmes is one of those bands where when you're listening to them, you have to crank upp the bass amplifiers, because it'd serve no justice to them otherwise. The bass alone carries most of the melody and is not like any other band where there is just straight eigth notes, again and again. This is rock and roll at it's core, raw soul. It's all about the emotion and the feeling. The Violent Femmes are the 20th century's romanicicts without the 19th century frills and frocks, and no revolutions. It's just you, them, and the music. And that's what real rock and roll is, and nothing depicts it more than Brian Richie's bass.
