Cleveland, OH - CSU Convocation Center, May 5th, 2005

If any of you are wondering what a Green Day concert is like with nosebleed seats half-behind, half-to the side of the stage, you've come to the right place.

The concert was sold out, but I guess they figured they'd make more money if they opened up the sections that they weren't originally supposed to be selling tickets for. So two weeks before the concerts, 3 of my friends, my sister, 2 parents, and I got tickets for Green Day. It seemed like a miracle that we got tickets at all.

On May 6, we drove down to the Wolstein Center in Clever, about a 15-20 minute drive for us. We got there just in time, and tried to buy T-shirts before My Chemical Romance came on, but we didn't make it to the end of the line in time. Then MCR came on, so we ran to our seats. When we saw them, they weren't as bad as we'd imagined. Second-to-worst section in the whole place but it didn't matter to me. The audience seemed to like MCR. I thought they were ok, but not one of my favorites. Then after MCR we tried again to get shirts and succeeded. We all ended up getting the typical American Idiot concert shirts with the dates on the back. We went back to our seats and waited for Green Day. Of course the bunny suit dude came on and did his thing, and a few minutes later, Green Day came on. There was a lot of screaming and excitement and I was part of it. Of course, that was a given. It turns out I could see the back/side (mostly back) of Billie Joe, the side of Mike, and the side of Tre. I guess that was pretty crappy, but I didn't care.

The first song you can probably guess. It was American Idiot. That was exciting. One of AI's more decent songs. It was very energetic, and I especially liked it when Billie Joe made us say "It's calling out to idiot America". Next was Jesus of Suburbia, then Holiday, then Are We The Waiting, and then St. Jimmy. After that I heard the intro to Longview and that's when the concert went from great to perfect. Longview was amazing. There's just something about seeing Green Day play Longview in their typical American Idiot apparel. Next was Hitchin' A Ride which had a long interlude where Billie Joe made all sides of the arena sey hey-o, and our side won. Then Basket Case, King For a Day, She, Brainstew, Jaded, and of course Knowledge, where Billie Joe picked 3 audience members to play guitar, bass, and drums. But you all know how that goes. The girl that was gonna play guitar couldn't, so they replaced her with a guy. I can't remember which, but either the guitar or bass player said he was from Trendy. Not sure on the order, but the rest of the songs were: Minority, Shout , Wake Me Up When September Ends, Maria, We Are The Champions, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and Good Riddance at the end. Somewhere around Minority, there was an encore. The finale was perfect, and all the confetti came down after that. As for Billie Joe jacking off, I didn't see anything, but I wasn't looking for it, and I was in a bad spot.

So even though the seats were horrid, and I kept wanting to be on the floor the whole time, the concert turned out to be the best night of my life.
